Looking to spend $1000... k-r or k-x...?

I must be the only K-X owner who thinks that a K-R is a worthwhile update. The improved AF with assist lamp and visible AF points in the viewfinder are quite important to me.

My K200D would lose its date and time when stored without a battery.

I don't quite get what you are trying to say with this statement. Canon has an affordable 35mm F2 and a 35mm F1.4 L.

Put your K-X in Manual mode, set shutter speed between 1/125 to 1/180, ISO to 400, Aperture 4 or whatever your lens opening is, now give that a try.

My K-X is like that. In P-mode it goes to high ISO and slow shutter speed. Easily fixed by going into Manual mode.

Agree, try setting ISO to 400 then let us know if it still overexposes.

Overcompensating? I'm just stating facts from using both systems. And I was referring to a certain member of this forum who puts down the 7D at almost every opportunity even if it's not really part of the topic (Canon hater as was mentioned by someone else in another thread).

If you're happy with your K10 then good for you!

From this picture of a 7D the lens mount appears to be connected to both metal and plastic:

I definitely accept it because I own both (clue read my SIG)! For IQ and ISO Pentax is definitely up there with the competition, but AF sucks at least for the K-X and the cameras before its generation. I just can't stand the numerous and sometimes off-topic disparaging remarks about the 7D when they don't even own one or at least handle one with reasonable time spent with it. Sound more like *enis envy to me.

But what is the use of image quality when you keep on missing the moment? Bet you some beginner will advise me to use the Auto 11 or Auto 5 point.

Now put the K-X and 7D in center point focus and take it indoors with so-so lighting. Watch how the K-X will struggle to lock focus around 30% of the time while the 7D will keep firing away.

Well I emailed Canon to ask the same question since I believe that people's conclusion here is purely speculation based on a picture and here is their reply:

First my question:

User Question : Is the lens mount of the 7D mounted directly to the
magnesium body or to the plastic mirror box?

The reply:

Thank you for writing to us regarding EOS 7D. We value you as a Canon
customer and appreciate the opportunity to assist you.

The lens mount is mounted directly to the magnesium body of the camera.

Please let us know if we can be of any further assistance with your EOS
7D.

Thank you for choosing Canon.

AFC test on moving cars is not a challenge. I used to use my K200D's AFC in a drifting event and it was quite easy since the target is so big.

Your ranking is based on what? The 7D is definitely not a "newer design" in fact it was released on September 2009 and I'm sure it would be easy to find feedback on its build quality.

The white balance of my K-X is so much easier to set up (especially with the feature of applying a different white balance to your last shot) properly compared to my Canon 7D. I'm sure the K-R will have the same or maybe even better white balance configuration of the K-X.

That's right! I see the pros and cons of both systems. I'm still keeping my Pentax gear and maybe even acquire the K-R sometime soon. I like the JPEG output of my K-X compared to my 7D, but for AF it's 7D by a long stretch.

The emphasis on ISO is probably because Pentax finally caught up/mildly exceeded the competition when the K-X was launched. Now with the K-R and K5, expectations are high to better what the K-X achieved.

I agree with you. However the topic that I am responding to is the claim that "no one" uses high ISO as stated by one member who thinks that the general public doesn't use it either, and that it is only the camera review sites that rave about it. For me high ISO is great when I have the need to freeze motion when indoors with dim lighting and when using a flash is not permissible.

Let me restate that, unless I'm trying for an artistic shot I don't want any kind of motion blur in my shots due to long shutter speeds.
