Hello pentaxians. Long time not posting but following you all thanks to the newsletters.

I am in Fuerteventura developing business. After taking some pictures Surfing in Esquinzo - Fuerteventura | Flickr - Surf Day - El Hierro Fuerteventura - Canarie | Flickr with my promaster 70-300 toy zoom, I was asked to be hired for some photography work for surf, windsurf and kite schools.

I need a good tele to have good professional quality in full print resolution. Let's say that I need a stock photography quality. I am already selling through shutterstock and others but only pictures taken with my old and wonderful A-35~105mm

Focal range around 400mm, sharp.

What do u suggest?

Thank you!

Gabriele

Flucard on iPad with Ricoh app

Well... I tried to install the same app on the play store for android and there I found out that the app works only for the 2 Pentax cameras, k3 not included.

So the point is.... Is it possible to transfer images on iPad (os ver. 9.2.1) via flucard (or any other way) to edit raw images in iPad?

I wanted to try to edit raw images in Lightroom on iPad. I found this app from Ricoh and try to use it to download images from my k3

The flu card works, via browser, while the app is not connecting to the flucard.

The reviews on the app are quite terrible but they don't seem to be related to the problem I am having.

Does anybody have experience with it?
Thanks
Gabriele

I actually got all my lights stolen few weeks ago so I won't upload for a while :(

I liked it but not crazy about it. Light is kinda weak. It's good for stuff like this, though, as fine-tuning type of fill-in, if you know what I mean.

They asked for candid style shots.
The ceremony didn't last enough to get all those pics you suggested, which I agree, they are a must when parents are there, which was joy the case here. :)

Thanks for your inputs skierd!

Even though I feel I can easily fit the list of requirements listed in the article, I definitely can say I am not into wedding photography, simply because I believe there is too much bull involved. I never liked weddings. I breath fake stuff all around. Non wanted guests invited because... many reasons..., guests who don't give a damn who goes just to eat and do networking... i can't stand it.

But I like to do it for friends, for people with tight budget... 20-30 guests... sort and sweet, real deals between real people.

Thanks for the link!

lol

Yeah I guess that is why I don't like weddings. I never worked in anything in my life that I looked forward to put an end to it. I hope you made millions! Do you have a portfolio online. Link?

There are no pics of entire group of guests. I didn't even think about it. I guess the shot list is one of the things I will have to make for the next wedding job, if any will come.

I learned from you guys here few things I didn't know. "Shot list" is the most important one. I just didn't bother on this set of pics because of the little budget involved but there are few pictures Ill need to work on in PP more to make it part of my portfolio.

That little desaturated and that color balance was intentional (and chosen by the couple), achieved in PP

Is that so important? :) Go with the flow. Be original. They are friends, you know them. Make them have fun, capture their moments in a "candid" style. They'll love them.
Personally, I don't like 90% of what top photographers do, simply because those shots (posed ones) have nothing to do with a wedding. They are useless, no matter how beautiful the images may be. I am referring to those shots that seems more appropriate for dresses and accessories catalogues/advertisement than the weddings. One thing I really hate to see is pictures of brides or grooms by themselves posing. It's a WEDDING and so the keyword should be TOGETHER, unless is to portrait some moments of the ceremony/event.

Another example of non-sense pictures...

It looks like they are thinking it over again. How the hell photographers can come up with such posing ideas, only God knows.

Ask them if there are some shots they have in mind they would like to have for their wedding and do it. Easier :)

The money they will pay will allow you to invest in assistants and lighting. If you can afford it, rent banks, strobe lights, reflective panels and hire an assistant.
I don't think doing a work for friends for free will devaluate pros.

Beautiful. Lucky you! Yes you always need fill-in lighting, even in cloudy sky condition, if you want super duper results (post processing can make you achieve great results but not as good as if you will use proper lighting, off-camera of course.

Anyway, I like real things and things that make sense so I would always look for picutres that in the end tell the story of the wedding and love, of course.

I would never hire Jason Lanier as my wedding photographer because as good as his images may look like, they just doesn't make any WEDDING sense :)

Good luck! I hope you will share some pics of that wedding with us.

Thank you guys! Thank you for taking the time to provide detailed opinions and suggestions!

@Micromacro:
Dress (good point): I guess you're right. I thought what I got was enough but maybe you're right. It's never enough and it cost nothing to have it all, to be on the safe side.
Courage: I think it was more about being reckless. I really didn't think about the risks :) Now that you made me think about it, I am scared and I don't know if I'll do more weddings :P

@max_payne:
1) teeth... I agree
2) there are shots of the place and full body portraits. I didn't upload them in flickr because they are pretty normal stuff. What's in flickr is part of the 350+ pics I delivered
3) yes, 1 bad - 5 good

@redcat:
1) snapshots - more care: what do you mean? What would you do in PP? Could you take one (or more) of those shots and show me how you would improve them?
2) No, it doesn't hurt. Feel free to shoot! :)
3) PS: that's a good idea. Thanks!
4) wedding dress - I over exposed it on purpose. Actually it was done in PP (increasing highlights with an added glowing effect in photoshop.) on purpose.
5) image quality and book... Like I wrote, I was limited by the budget. I know how to achieve top results in terms of lighting and IQ (professional lenses, etc) but I was limited by their budget available.

@Oldbayrunner:
1) what do I think? I really liked the result and I am proud of what I did, considering the limited budget available, the environment and my condition (read below) and considering the feedback from the client. Quoting them: "Great! They look amazing. I will definitely be giving your number out these are perfect!"
2) I have a clear idea of what I did and what I could have done better, but I also wanted other photographers opinion, which is why I posted here :)
3) Yes I would pay for this work and I believe it worth more than what I got paid.
4) there is a big space for improvement and I know how, when budget will be available. The photos were shot with Pentax-F 35~70 ($30) and a Promaster 70~300 AF MDL Macro 1:3.9 ($50)

I would like to shoot more scenic photos, wide angle panoramic shots from ladders, etc but... the week before I twisted my ankle (third degree damage (snapped ligaments) - forth degree means surgery!). That day was the first day on my feet after the recovery. I have been in little pain for the entire day and I knew I shouldn't have walked yet, because not completely healed.. I was walking crippled. They are friends I really care about and so I did the work no matter my condition. At some point, while they were approaching the ceremony area, I forgot about my ankle, so much I was caught by the work, that I squat down on my wrong foot to shoot from the bottom up. I fell down in pain and some how I managed to hold the screaming. I got up immediately not to interfere with the bride arrival and I got out of the way. I had tears in my eyes and I started sweating cold, being very closed to pass out. One of the guests came to me and helped me to stay on my feet. I managed to keep working and started shooting the ceremony. I have to admit, my mind was not very clear. The pain played a bad role in the whole thing, leaving little space to creativity. I am sure I would have had much more fun and much better shot. This was the very worst condition I have ever worked in my whole life but caring about these guys really helped me keep going on.

It was a very quick ceremony (approx 5-10 minutes), with little time to shoot more variety of photos I planned to shoot.

To conclude... I never liked weddings but I want to do more, especially those with small budget.

Thank you again!

Ok, this is my very first wedding. I would like to know:
The guys were on a tight budget so I couldn't hire an assistant helping with lights and reflective panels.

1) your rating from 1 to 5
2) If you like what you see, how much would you ask for this kind of work as a photographer?

Anything else you may come up with, as far as critics, it's welcome.

to me, they are too over saturated. I think this is the first evident mistake. It makes the pictures "too sugary", for which the viewer will get tired of them, easily.
Framing is wrong, especially in number 4

shadows pumped too much, while highlights reduced too much. It gives this exagerated hdr effect that, not good (my taste). You should use lights to brighten the shadowed areas.
