OpTech is well worth the money. I like being able to just click and remove the camera from the strap.

I second that comment. I have a hard time taking the 50-135 off my k5. It covers it all for portraits.

I'm a huge fan of AF Fine adjustment. I've just acquired a k-5 and both my 50-135 and 16-50 were sharp, but not 100% sharp, until I took the time to perform the AF fine adjustment. I say give it a try. I just use the focus chart test. On a tripod and then blow it up in Lightroom and compare.

Agreed. The 50-135 is an amazing lens. It excels in portraiture. Whereas the 55-300 is going to be a good all around lens with a lot more reach.

What about a used Da* 50-135? It's my go to lens for almost all my portraits/weddings. Add in the 16-50 and you have almost everything covered plus weatherproof.
You may need a bit more light being f2.8 compared to f1.4 on the 55, but being able cover 70-200mm roughly with the crop factor is well worth it IMHO.

I still think that some of the best pictures I've ever taken were with my k100d! Loved that sensor...

So I had the Kiron 105mm Macro (Vivitar Series One) which was and still is an amazing piece of glass. Sharp as a tack. For my current project i've been using the Pentax 100mm f2.8. Which is sharp, but doesn't seem quite as sharp as the Kiron. The bonus is autofocus and size factor. Pentax is much smaller and lighter, as well as autofocus.
My question is: What are the thoughts on the Tamron or Sigma dedicated macro lenses?
I have not totally ruled out another Kiron but I do appreciate the autofocus feature.
By the way its mostly product photography its being used for...
Thanks in advance,
Fred

My vote is for the 50-135. I'm still amazed at how sharp it is for a zoom.

As far as I know it's limited to center focus only. I've used it on manual and AF lenses. Including the 50-135 and 16-50.

My 16-50mm lens has developed a sqeak and has a focus hunt problem, much like what was described in another thread in the forum.
I was just wondering where the best place to have a 16-50mm lens repaired out of warranty in the US. I'm on the East Coast. Looks like a lot of poeple have good experiences with C.R.I.S.
Thanks
Fred
