There must be some problem with the card slot. Try blowing air out or cleaning with some folded paper. Often SD card slot gets jammed or blocked by dirt or dust inside.

Photos can be backed up with Time Machine or icloud. Lightroom, Pixelmator and Photos for Mac are few good photo apps for Mac which can be used for photo organizing, editing and storage |

Just leave it that way until it gets dried up. After drying up, if still problem persists, then other measures can be taken. |

Have your updated your driver to the new K-3 model? I guess the card you are using is not compatible with the new K-3 model. Try to insert a new card . Also update the driver or re install the driver which comes with the camera itself.

I have read similar kinds of problems elsewhere also. It is better to try pressing down on the spring while allowing the card to slip by your fingers slowly. If it works fine otherwise try to get your gear rechecked by your manufacturer.

As far as I know, the pictures can be viewed without the SD card in the camera. But for saving and transferring images, it is always advisable to use a SD card. You can check the following link for better information about SD cards compatibility with Pentax camera. K-x Recommended Memory Cards | Ricoh Imaging Support |

Since the problem is with the card, you should try a SD card recovery software. Stellar Phoenix Photo Recovery Software is a very reliable and effective recovery software which can recover lost or deleted photos and other multimedia files from your corrupt/formatted SD memory card. Only just remember to not use the affected device after data loss, until recovery process is complete. This will prevent the file from being overwritten and successfully recover your corrupt memory card.
