DA 20-40 f/2.8-4 Limited hood cap size???

Just received delivery of a DA 20-40 f/2.8-4 Limited. On my Limited lenses, I prefer to use a snap-on cap instead of the supplied metal push-on cap with the "felt" inside.

Does anyone know what size cap will fit the lens hood? Based on the part number of the lens cap for the hood in the manual, (i.e., O-LW65A), I suspect it might be 65mm. The lens itself takes 55mm filters.

How do Pentaxians handle their massive photo library?

There is no "universal" way of storing your pictures. I am of the opinion take a sheet of paper and make a file structure you like. This can be date based folders like YYYYMMDD-Description/filename or anything to your liking.
As you are in the IT you have figured this out.
I would suggest changing some parameters in Lightroom Classic.
In Preferences Treat JPG files next to raw as separate photos (this setting makes your JPG files visible when importing from camera)
In Catalog settings Metadata check Automatically write changes to XMP. This setting is fairly important as it writes into the file (DNG,JPG,TIFF) or add a sidecar file (PEF,CR2,ARW,...) with all your ACR/LR settings as star rating, keywords etc... This used to slow down LR but did not notice a great impact in recent versions of LR.
I am of the opinion a structured folder structure is important but properly tagging, keywording your files is as important.
As you have checked write metadata to xmp a search through your OS e.g. spotlight would steer you to the right files.
Understand how the file system works into Lightroom (juggle with files and folders into LR and NOT directly with your Operating system)
My workflow:
When importing my camera files I assign a folder with a sequential job# - description of event/camera files
I select the files I want with a star system so I can filter them later out. I do my adjustments and export them as full res 100% qual. JPG (archiving, printing etc.) and 2048px wide JPG 80% qual. for mail and social media both in the srgb colour space. using a folder structure like /JPG/job#-short description-FullRes/files.jpg If you are not happy with jpg and space is no concern take tiff in 16bit.
In the earlier days of LR I did more of a clean slate approach once my "project" was finished tagged and saved to jpg/tiff, printed I exported the project into a smaller LR catalog for archiving ( as we used to do in CO sessions) and deleted from the main catalog file.
LR has become more snappier and robust and now I am more sloppy. I keep my work from the last 2 years into catalog.
Put your LR catalog file on your fastest local drive.
The most important in DAM (Digital Asset Management) is metadata make sure your files are properly tagged so you can retrieve the photographs of aunt Suzy with just a Windows search or Spotlight or whatever your OS is.

Regarding Backup strategy figure your strategy out, simulate a crash and see if you can recover your data!
Do not make stuff overly complex use the KISS approach.

It's surprising to find that you're still submitting so many photos to the PEG, because ten seems like a heck of a lot. Surely it must be clear by now that the sort of thing you're doing just doesn't conform to the very specific aesthetic that the judges are looking for. I want to be very clear that this absolutely does NOT mean that your photos are bad photos, it just means that you're not doing the sort of things that the judges are very clearly only interested in.

I urge you not to buy into the PEG's own narrative that it represents the "best" of Pentax photography, because it manifestly does not. There are some nice photos in there, but there are also a lot of arguably overprocessed ones. Every day I see photos posted on this forum that I personally think are better than anything I've seen in PEG, but probably none of those photos would be accepted by the judges if they were submitted, because they don't conform to the PEG style of point scoring technical "perfection".

I should also point out that it's not the judges' job to teach people how to match up to the style that they are interested in. If you're trying to use them as some sort on a free expert critiquing service then it's understandable that they'll eventually get frustrated.

I really think you need to stop being so masochistic about this. Stop letting the PEG delude you into thinking that its photos are the best that Pentax represents. Stop measuring yourself against an arbitrary and false standard that you might never manage to conform to anyway.

A forum posting feels like a terribly inadequate way to respond to this, but it's what I have. I've learned a lot from your uniquely personal photographic perspective and imagination. I feel privileged to have several of your prints, zines, and most recently your fabulous book. You're an inspiration, in more ways than one.

CCD vs CMOS Sensors - Which do you prefer for "Colors"?

Is it too trite to suggest that at the manufacturer default settings, the CCD produces images more reminiscent of Kodachrome 64 (slightly reddish, limited dynamic range and smooth edges but with colour contrasts that match my perception) and the CMOS is more like Fujichrome 100 (a touch more blue-green, greater dynamic range but really needing bright colours to deliver a memorable image?

In my film days, I used K64 film in the deserts (Central Australia, Western China, Pakistan) and F50 or F100 in the wetter climates (New Zealand, Taiwan, SE Asia)

It's not trite, just true.:)

I shot K64 for so many years that it'll always be my gold standard for colour rendering, and the fact that my GX-10 version of the K10D produces results straight out of the camera that are so Kodachrome-like is one of the main reasons why I just can't give up on it. To my mind, CMOS cameras produce results more like colour negative film, needing skilled and careful processing to get any real oomph out of them.

Hi mates!

I released the v 1.5.0 of WiFi Commander for PENTAX, in this version you can find:
1- Planned Shots: with this function you can set every shot parameter, also the AF point, and make a program of shots with an interval between each or specific date/time. Works in M / B timed / X modes.*
2- Live View enhancements: there will be a red square to indicate the focus point. If you use the LV zoom after the focus point selection you will have a zoom on the focus area.
3- Picture review enhancements: you can zoom also stored pictures.
4- LV Zoom K-70 bug: K-70 has a bug with Pentax LV zoom implementation, I made a dedicated version of this function to have a working zoom also with the K-70
5- Improved post-shot logic to speed up times
6- Improved "latest pictures taken" panels
7- In app Focus switch now reads from the in camera setting
8- Performances improvements and bugfixes

* I'm very proud of the Planned Shots feature, let me add some words about.
You have to put the camera on M or B timed or X mode, then select the exposure values, filters, WB, size, etc and when ready press the new "shot" button with a calendar inside. Now in the Planned Shots tab you will find a new Program. In the same way you can add shots with different parameters. If you want to edit a shot you can select it and press the edit button or double click the row in a white cell. To define a delay (HH:MM:SS format) between the shots or a specific date/time you have to double click the green cells.
When you set the shot parameters you can also define a specific focus area, to do this you have to enable the LiveView and click on that area of the image. Save or Edit with the new "shot" button with the calendar inside. In the Planned Shots tab you can create new Programs, move up/down shots inside the programs, export and import your Programs.... etc...

Semi stand for 120 format works great for me.
I use 600ml of water and 4-5 ml of rodinal. I pre soak for a couple of minutes first with room temp water, then I pour in the dilluted developer and agitate slowly for a minute. I let it stand for an hour , but at the 30 minute mark I slowly swirl the tank (like a wine glass) for 15 seconds. This seems to fix the uneven development issues for me.

DA 35mm/2.4 - A Plastic Wonder! -- DAL35 vs FA35 vs DA35m vs A35 (many photos!)

Thanks guys for your feedback.

From the results you can see that DA35macro certainly has the best center and corner sharpness, that's inline w/ my experiences with this wonderful lens. FA35 might have slightly better resolution, but the difference really isn't much especially considering we are viewing at 100% crops on a 16.3mp sensor. You probably won't feel the difference during actual shooting.

DAL35 is very comparable to the other 3 lenses in other aspects too, actually I like the slight softer and smoother bokeh from DAL35 better than the others. The difference is there if I view those bokeh samples on my Dell WFP2408 monitor side by side, but I can't see much difference on my laptop screen where I have to scroll all the samples up and down to compare.

The new lens might have some improved coatings as well, it seems to let more light pass through at the same aperture. Or maybe Pentax should call it DAL 35/2.2? It's just a number, you won't see any difference during actual use though.

Anyway, I guess you won't see much difference between the FA35 and DAL35 during actual shooting, the A35 is probably too old to compare w/ the new lenses, DA35macro is truly one of the best lens in sharpness and resolution test. But when shooting at a subject some distance away, it's not the best lens out there.

I'm glad that Pentax released such a reasonably priced little lens with very good optical quality. Hope we'd see some similar 50/85mm lenses in the future.

Oh btw, big thanks to Clicker for upgrading my photobucket account to a pro one without my knowing it, otherwise we won't be able to see these sample photos but the 'bandwidth exceed' sign.
