I was thinking, '...when you try to plan a group hiking outing and you are puzzled when other people suggest times like 1 p.m. or 2 p.m. instead of 4 p.m.'
How about '...when you start paying attention to pictures in advertisements because you're trying to estimate the focal length and flash setup (or whether they used a flash) they used.'

You know you're a photographer when you see imaginary rule of third lines every time you look at someone's face.
You know you're a photographer when you reach for your ND16 neutral density filter when you see someone you do not particularly like.

F2A, Nikkor K 85mm f1.8, XP2:
I like the swirly bokeh and barrel distortion (or the "defects") of this old Nikkor lens. Sometimes flaws make a lens special

Pair from my Flexaret V a on Neopan Acros. After having shot it for a bit now, I'd say that I need f5.6 for acceptable (to me) edge performance on overcast days, and possibly higher on sunny ones—not least because focusing it on sunny days can be a challenge in itself. (That or some of the colour filters I was using really destroyed the image quality.)

0.33-0.5m closeup filter (probably at close to 0.33m): Untitled by Andrew, on Flickr
And this from a roll of Neopan SS that I had forgotten about and found in the fridge. (It was buried in with my remaining Neopan 400, and I didn't look too closely at the box until I pulled it out.) Run through the Kiev 4A, and much like the last time I used it I can't say that I'm too happy with the results. Thankfully it's my last roll of the stuff.

The Fed2L has arrived:
Besides the rangefinder completely off, the scratched lens, the selftimer jammer and the shutter which remains open on B everything works fine.
This one :
On the other side is the usual tiny and capable Praktica B variation, everything works just fine, unfortunately the lens isn't great but I got everything for £6 plus shipping.

Thnaks. I'd say all color negative film likes a bit of overexposure from box speed. so I'll for sure be shooting this at lower than 800iso when possible.
I went to my local Italian car show and had to shoot a roll of ektar (for the reds). All shot with my Mamiya C33 |

Got around to scanning my first roll of Fuji Superia X-Tra 800. Really nice film for the cost going to be using it a lot since one roll of portra 800 is nearly as much as a 4 pack of the fuji 800. |

Very nice photos, TheLens. I once considered getting an SRT 102 when it came out: ended with a Pentax MX.

Let's face it, in a manual focus camera, you really have to rely on the viewfinder and the Pentax LX brought functionality and elegance in design to the interchangeable viewfinder cameraworld as it is the only one that is fully functional - and actually usable, even without one installed. On the Nikon F3 you can't even see the shutter speed selected on the tiny LCD. The Minolta XK is - for all intents and purposes, not functional without it. On the Canon New F-1 - and all the other previous interchangeable viewfinder cameras unless I missed one, you need the viewfinder as the metering info can only be viewed through it.
And of course it is only piling-on when Pentax provided the most variety of viewfinders, eye-relief/magnification with most having built-in diopter. |

My faithful old Casio. I got it in 2007? Can't remember for sure. I take comfort in the fact that it contains more computing power than the original computers in the Space Shuttle. Taken with my MX-1. I love that little camera.

With my Zenit recently deciding that it was going to be the arbiter of whether or not something was worth taking a picture of, I was in the market for a new m42-mount SLR. Checked the flea markets and second-hand shops & local for sale sites, but nearly everything was massively overpriced or of questionable condition.
Price and condition-wise, this was the best of the lot. Officially it's a GAF L-17, but it's mainly just a Chinon M-1 with the cheap-looking Chinon nameplate replaced with a gaudier GAF one.
On the other hand, it works—meter even seems accurate—and was cheap. So I can't really complain. L-17 by Andrew, on Flickr
