Current Pentax 50mm primes on K-1?

Is my A 50/1.7 which I use on an APS-C body. Considering the low price, it's IQ is totally satisfying for me. Fast enough in most conditions, compact build.
Concerning a F1.2 AF lens, I've read rumours that Pentax manufactured samples in the past or at least tried to develop some. I know that AF cameras need at least an aperture of F5.6/F8 to work properly, but why would F1.2 be "too fast“? Can someone explain it to me? How does Canon make it work?

At the moment they don't sell this new lens in Pentax K-mount, I was somehow misled by the Tamron website. Nevertheless the price for the old and new version is about the same in $. Is there any hope we will see a Pentax version?

Pentax has made manual focus 50mm F1.2 lenses in the past, why didn't they ever develop an auto-focus successor? Or did they?

Hello, I've read about this reworked version of Tamron's ultra-wide angle zoom with weather sealing, image stabilization, and a new focus motor. While B&H Photo sells it for 500 $ new (350 $ used), here in Europe it sells for 650 €. That's about 30% more than US retail prices, how is price policy justified?

How does this lens compare (optically) to the older FA 28-105/3.2-4.5?

So far, I haven't. I'm awaiting a new charger for my lithium cells since I dropped the previously used one. All my 14500s are around rated voltage now, so I don't want to deep discharge them. I've also ordered some protected 14500s to use four of them safely.

By the way, eneloops can hold their charge for quite a while, but there is a production date stamped on the package. If they're more than one year "old", then it's a good idea to recharge them I think.

Well, for geographic reasons, you haven't seen many former Soviet diesel locomotives (e.g. types M62 or TE109). Those roaring, ear-deafening machines will certainly show you that there's life in them.

Pentax K-1 Officially Announced

QuoteQuote:

Pentax takes advantage of the sensor's available movement in order to develop additional features, such as the Pixel Shift Resolution setting. This mode shifts the sensor in order to capture full color data on each pixel by compositing four shots. This grants exceptional clarity, lowers noise, and boosts the effective resolution to 42MP. Additionally, the K-1 has a motion correction setting that allows this function to be used even when shooting handheld.

Wow, didn't expect that feature come so soon after it was introduced with the K-3 II.

Headphone and microphone jacks are good, but I did expect 4K recording capabilities.

Okay, basically I have trouble using NiMH at temperatures like we have now, i.e. -10 - 0°C. The voltage/capacity often drops too fast. Regular eneloop batteries should be better in the cold than the pro/XX version from what I've read. NiZn and LiFePO4 should even handle temperatures down to -20°C. Using two LiFePO4 (not lipo, that means lithium-polymere which has voltage characteristics similar to lithium-ion) cells, you don't need protection circuits, since the max. discharge voltage is around 2V, where the camera automatically shuts off. NiZn requires expensive (SkyRC MC3000) or non-versatile (Ansmann, Voltcraft) chargers. Failure rate of NiZn cells seems high, don't know if more current products have improved that. If this camera can really take 25V of input, then why don't use four 14500 cells instead of two, if there's even more energy in them?

Is there a need to store data for 14 billion years?

Although I've never been on slashdot very often, it tells me that a certain website got down due to an unintended dDoS-"attack". :D

14 billion years is roughly the time our universe exists. But that's not the point, I think the higher MTBF gives us just better than average data safety.

Hi, after reading this blog post:

RiceHigh's Pentax Blog: Better K-x Rechargable Solution? Is the NiZn Safe?

I've called Ricoh Imaging Germany today to get information about the input voltage range of this DSLR. I suspected something around 7.4 V (as the successor, the K-r had a Li-ion battery with this voltage). After some searching, the hotline emplyee told me it's up to 25 V!!!

That means, you could insert four fully charged 14500 Li-ion batteries without touching the limit. To be honest, I'm afraid of trying it out, because I don't have the courage to actually test it. You als need to check the cell voltage frequently, because most 14500s are offered as unprotected cells. What I have tried: using two 14500s with two dummy cells in my K-x. The battery status bar is always solid green until the camera fails to actuate the shutter because the near-empty batteries can't deliver a high enough current.
What are your thoughts?

Low light - using wide aperture e.g. f1.8

Concert photography is usually done without using flashes, similar to certain sports events. Even a F/1.4 lens won't allow you to use shutter speeds comparable to flash sync speeds. You'll have to raise ISO speed to your least acceptable values. DOF increases with shorter focal length & crop factors > 1. Shouldn't be much of an issue if you have the main artist in focus.

I'm not yet allowed to vote because I've just registered, but #8 would get my vote, although several other submissions are great also.
