As Photographers flock to Mirrorless and New Technology, I fall further in love with my K1. It's a camera that makes sense to me and allows me photograph the way I like to - Slow, Deliberate and concentrating on the subject. I don't need the latest and greatest and the K-1 is more camera than I will ever need - My Photographic Gear is complete. I might need the occasional visit to the Chiropractor :lol:but I love my Pentax gear. I have no need to upgrade to the Mark 2 as the K-1 is all I need - Brilliant ergonomics, built like a tank, Incredible IQ, Built in Shake Reduction, A Menu system that is intuitive and a body that is a pleasure to hold in the hands. The three lenses I own are just magical - Pentaxian from the Late 70's and a Pentaxian for life

I love my K-1 and while I see and hear of so many folks switching to Sony, I am about to upgrade my K-1 to the K-1 2 for $550 and get another K-1 2. While my Pentax gear does not have comparable autofocus, flash is probably at least a generation behind, video is abysmal, specialty lenses are limited, does not have all the bells and whistles, I just love my Pentax K-1. It is ergonomically perfect, a pleasure in the hands, built like a tank, a menu system that makes sense, the colors and IQ that resonate with me and when I put the viewfinder to my eye, it's me and the subject - It's all about creating the image instead of focusing on a bunch of computer readouts all over the viewfinder. My K-1 may not be perfect, perhaps even far from it but it is the camera I love shooting with. My Gear - Pentax 24-70 f/2.8, Pentax 100 MM Macro f/2.8, Tamron 70-200 f/2.8, Pentax DA 55 mm f/1.4, Pentax 77mm f/1.8 - Am I crazy??

As anyone who has contemplated switching systems, I too often go through the "Should I Switch" Syndrome. And then 2 minutes later, Logic and reality set in and I go back to my Happy Pentax Place. Me as an Enthusiast and Occasional Paid shooter, The Pentax system really offers me more than I will ever need. For me, it's only shortcoming is the Autofocus (Recently shot a few shots with the 5d4 and the Auto Focus speed is not even close). Everything else is just fantastic and more than I will ever need. The IQ is sublime, The UI unparalleled, The Weather Sealing incredible, The In Body stabilization works like a charm and above all, it just feels right in my hands.
I shoot with a K-1 and a K-3 2 as a backup and a relatively decent set of lenses - DFA 24-70, DFA 50 f/1.4, DFA 100 mm f/2.8 and the Tamron 70-200 f/2.8. That's really all I ever need and never seem to want any other focal length. To get a comparable set up in any other system would be cost prohibitive and I doubt that I will get anything from the other system other than Autofocus speed which as primarily a Landscape and Portrait shooter is not nearly as important. And of course no System has a site like Pentax Forums:):):):)
I'd love to hear from those who have switched to or from the Pentax system and what your experiences have been as well as those who are constantly in a state of confusion regarding switching systems.

Even though I have shot weddings before, I have always been the second shooter. This time I got to shoot my beautiful cousin's wedding as the Primary photographer and had an absolute blast. My gear was the K-1 and K3-2(backup) with the Pentax 24-70, Tamron 70-200, 77ltd and a couple of Yongnuo flashes. Here are a couple of shots

I have the 31 and it is superb - I went through the same decision making process prior to purchasing it between these two lenses. I am not a professional photographer but an advanced enthusiast and am more worried about the way the image renders, looks and feels as opposed to pixel peeping every picture. The 31 is an amazing lens - the IQ is amazing, the build quality superb, significantly smaller than the Sigma. It is louder, maybe not as sharp but those things are less important to me than the feel, the size and the rendering

My first experience shooting the K1 in a very low light environment. These were taken at an Indian Religious Celebration - Not sure that they are great shots in the Pixel Peeping sense of the word but I like the feel and the overall moments.

Used my new K-1 with the 100mm for the first time this weekend to shoot some portraits at an Indian festival - I really enjoyed the lens on the K-3 but used it specifically for macro work. On the K-1, it is a very nice portrait lens

Order Finally Placed after some serious savings...For some it's Cars, Other's Boy Toys, For Us Photographers, It's always about having the tools to create the perfect image.....All set now for a very long time - Full Frame, 36 MP, Weather Sealed, No AA Filter, Built In Shake Reduction..Thank You Good Lord....
Moving on up from the K-3 2 and will always remain within the Pentax family - My lens collection will be all primes....31/55/77/100 - Don't see wider than 31 so I think I am good....PENTAX K-1 Special site | RICOH IMAGING |

Not a a Peep out of Ricoh/Pentax on the timing or even possibility of the K3-2 Successor. That's the camera that I would love to have with my Pentax APSC optimized lenses. The K3 2 is a fantastic APSC camera with superb ergonomics, brilliant IQ, outstanding build and is a joy to shoot with. I am just wishing the successor has improved autofocus, slightly better high iSO performance and a tilt screen - 24 MP is enough for me. Any one have any insight on the possible release of the successor?

Even though I don'y have the K-1, my K-3 2 and K-3 are brilliant camera's and a lot more intuitive, weather resistant and ergonomic than any competitors crop camera in my hands. While the masses criticize the lack of lenses in the Pentax arsenal(a tilt shift, 300 f/2.8etc), for me as an enthusiast photographer, I have never felt lacking. I'm not sure that you could put together a list of primes smaller, better built and with such magnificent color rendition as the Pentax lineup. When I am shooting all primes - I pick up my four lens kit - 15/31/55/100 - Absolutely brilliant. If I want Zooms - Tamron 17-50, Pentax 50-135 and Pentax 60-250. I've seen reviews by pixel peepers saying a lot of these lenses are nit sharp. All I know is that I am able to generate brilliant, dreamy and supremely color saturated prints from my Pentax set up

The advantage Nikon or Canon has over Pentax is Faster Autofocus, a better overall flash system and a wider selection of lenses. The advantage in my book that Pentax has is a remarkably intuitive User Interface, Outstanding Weather Resistance, IQ and rendition that has soul and In body Shake resistance. I would not trade my Pentax K-3 because it suits my style of shooting and I can live with the compromises - the Flash system is good enough for me, and the autofocus more than adequate. With my selection of lenses I can get all of my shooting done and love the outcome - Tamron 17-50 f/2.8, DFA 50 mm f/1.4, Pentax DFA100 mm WR f/2.8 Macro, Pentax DA* 50-135 f.2,8 and Pentax DA* 60-250 f/4. Now if I was to replicate those lenses in the Canikon world, I would certainly be on the short end of the stick financially.

I can't explain it but I am absolutely lusting after the K-1. I have the K-3 and a K-3 2 and love them but the K-1 just seems spectacular. I have a pretty good selection of lenses with the Tamron 17-50, Pentak FA 50 1.4, DA* 55, the DA*50-135, DA* 60-250, DFA 100mm f/2.8 and the DA 15 mm Ltd. I love my set up but boy do I wish I had the K-1. If I get the K-1, I intend to keep the DA* 55 and the DFA 100 macro and get the 31 and the 77 - but that's a lot of coin - So many decisions....

Razor Sharp at f/1.4 is an Oxymoron - The DA* 55 MM f/1.4 is an outstanding lens but razor sharp it is not. I'm not sure anyone shooting at f/1.4 is looking for pin sharpness but rather for subject isolation - Just my thoughts :-)

Scwinn, Welcome to the forum, the Pentax family and to the system with soul. You are going to love the intuitive, rugged, magical color rendition and unique look that we die hard Pentax fans love about Pentax. It's not a perfect system but then no system is - they all have compromises that you have to make. But you get tremendous value from the Pentax system and their fantastic primes around which you can create a superb lineup or around their magnificent DA* Zooms. Welcome and happy shooting

I have the DA* 60-250 f/4 - it is an outstanding lens for color rendition and IQ but not fast to focus. I have the DA*50-135 as well and the same is true for that lens - great IQ but slow to focus but very accurate. I would look at the Sigma if what you are looking for is fast focus. My 17-50 Tamron is faster to focus that both of the DA* lenses and has great IQ as well but the DA* lenses knock it's socks off on Build quality and sharpness. I think Tamron and Sigma lenses would suit you better for sports since the emphasis is on fast auto focus and not so much on WR and build quality.

This is why I love this forum - All of you gave me such good reassurances and I went out to the Dallas Zoo with it and absolutely love the lens - tack sharp and the IQ and color rendition is absolutely spectacular. Thanks for all of your opinions - This lens is truly a jewel within the Pentax lineup

I have broken down and ordered the DA* 60-250 f/4 from Adorama. I think I got a really good deal @ US $930.55 which included a 3 year accidental Drops and Spills Insurance.
Since I am perfectly happy with my K-3 and have a long way to go before I master even half of it's capabilities, I doubt I will get the FF for at least a few years. This lens should complete my APSC lineup and the lineup suits my style of shooting and I love all of these lenses - Tamron 17-50 f/2.8, Pentax DFA 50mm f/1.4, Pentax DFA 100 mm WR f/2.8, Pentax DA* 50-135 and now the DA* 60-250 - Not a true wide angle lens, but I really don't shoot much wide angle.
Based on the forum members reviews and what else I have read about this lens, I am sure I will be more than happy with it as it is considered one of Pentax's legendary zoom lenses

Today I was attending my six year old niece's ballet recital with my K-3 and Tamron 17-50 f/2.8. As I took my seat up front, the person siting next to me said "that's a nice little camera you have there."He then showed me his "dream camera' - a Canon 70d and the "awesome zoom lens" - a Sigma 18-300. He wanted me to hold it to feel how solid it was. I politely declined by saying "I'm good" and "You have a great set up." I'm not even sure how I was supposed to react to the brash and uninformed Canon fanboy - we'll let them live in their delusion while we Pentaxians just keep taking high quality pictures with the most intuitive, ergonomic, brilliant and underrated photographic system in the world
