I agree with Wiyum, Pentax should pursue digital medium format. Besides not having to develop a new set of lenses (they've still got the blueprints of the existing 645 lineup), it avoids having to compete directly in pro-market that Canikon is heavily engaged with. Digital medium format is still one area that is out of reach of enthusiasts (because of price) and Pentax has a ready niche that cannot afford Hassleblads and the like. Less R&D, less marketing, less competition.
Only thing in question is Pentax's production capacity.

#3, go P&S...
but get yourself a G9. :)
Nah, I've brought my K10D to too many family outings, and looking back, I missed out on a few things I shouldn't have by being behind the camera all the time. It's one thing to have nice photographs for the memories, but it's another to miss out on an experience and only have photographs.

Doesn't the FA 50 1.4 have issues with its auto-focus? I've read, several times, that its AF is slooooooow.

ah, same with me. My eldest still has a few years to go before he'll be able to hold my K10D properly. Though an old Pizza Hut film camera works for him! LOL

Yeah! Even worse than clients sometimes.
There are pictures that I just don't want to rush through the digital darkroom. And others, you instinctively know what to do with before you even take the picture.
And of course, a lot of them that aren't worth spending time on. :D

Poor you, I wish I was so unlucky :)
Not that I want anything bad to happen to my K10D, but I hope something similar happens to me. Go Pentax!

Please, please post an update when the next flight pushes through!
Did you have an instrument that measured the force of impact upon landing? Even if the camera was enclosed in foam, just curious what the measurement was.

Over here, in our side of the Pacific, there are two chains that carry Pentax, but the prices are ridiculous! The only advantage they offer is terms. I prefer to have my stuff purchased in the US.
Weird thing is, despite the K10D being assembled in our country, the local Pentax service center has to ship the camera to Japan. Go figure!
Good thing that I haven't had the need to have anything serviced. :)

One of the most useful threads in this forum so far!
I, too, use spot metering and manual mode, and only found about the use of the AE-L button in this situation. Thanks!
I've tried using the Sunny 16 rule, but I don't have enough confidence to use it regularly. Instead, it's spot metering on the nearest middle gray equivalent, or brightest or darkest colors and adjust metering accordingly. So far, it works.
The only problem I have is when the dynamic range in the scene is much too great. So it's either bracketing for eventual merging of exposures, or settle for an average (blowing out highlights and/or losing shadow detail in the process, unless I zoom in). In these cases, where people are in the picture, I will use flash. Does anyone have any other suggestions for metering high dynamic range scenes?

This story has made its way across the Pacific! (Actually just a URL away). Kudos! Really remarkable what our camera can do.

Like Canada Rockies, the accessibility of controls on the K10D is the deal closer. For this, I'm hesistant to purchase a K200 as a second body.

A K200D in an LX body :). That'll do for a second body.

I've never taken a picture with a medium format camera, but have handled one and seen pictures taken with it. IMHO, the "3 dimensional impact" is much more evident, even while composing the picture through the viewfinder.
I love my k10D, but am suddenly itching for a chance to get my hands on a 645. I can't explain, I hope someone can. :)

Best one so far!
I think Pentax isn't going to release anymore firmware updates for the K10D, so you'll have to do with the other suggestions.
Bugger!

Looks like I'm in the same boat as you are: trying to choose a flash.
Reading the opinions posted in different forums, there are quite a lot of people that say the 540 is quite up to snuff. Thinking about going with the Sunpak 383 too. But I'm worried about how long they'll last. The Sigma 530 might be a better option.

That missing charger was what bugs me. I got my K10D new, but with around a 200 shutter count. So it's nice that you got to return it.

Mabuhay!
Another photog from the Philippines here. Been a lurker for so long, guess it's time I show my face :p.
I really do enjoy the discussions here, especially now that I'm returning to manual lenses, this forum's been a big help.
