One last question... Do I need to buy a RAW converter if I want to use LR or PS? I always shoot in RAW.

You all are SO helpful! I'm a little surprised that no one mentioned Mac- I thought photographers were into Macs;) Guess it's time to go shopping!

My current toshiba laptop from 2006 is not cutting it. I have had my k3 for 2 months and am not liking the silkypix that came with it. I tried to download an older, free PS, but that tied up my computer so as to render it non-functional. I downloaded a 2 week trial of photoninja, which worked fine, but it was also slowing down my computer.
We just got a hefty check from IRS and nice hubby agrees I should get a computer specifically for my new-found hobby:)
What should I get? What are all the accessories that hobbyists use? Should I go for PS or something else? What about storage- cloud or hard drive? External?
Crazy how much I don't know, but I'm the type that just has to dive in and start doing in order to learn.
This will be a whole new ball game for me, but I want to aim for the stars and see how far I can take this.
Thanks!!

My version stinks as well. I can't even crop- the most basic of manipulations! But I'm going to wait until I get a new computer before I try installing it again. I used a trial version of Photo Ninja for 2 weeks and I loved it! Simple, but so much more straightforward. Good luck with yours and let me new if a new installation changes anything.

Small world! I grew up in the Blacksburg ward and did this ski trip with the YM/YW when I was 13. It's been quite a few years, but Blacksburg will always have my heart!
Great pics! I just bought this lens and am hoping for many good shots.

Is there a way to compensate for this focal shift, or somehow correct for it?

I also have no problem with blurred lines, thanks to my apparently "too much lens for my camera lens" which I now know will never be crisp without being tethered:P Anyway, slightly blurry makes for kissable baby cheeks, n'est pas? F1.6 1/160 200iso. This was my first week with a DSLR.

Thanks! I'm still new with the jargon, so I did mean wider aperatures than 5.6 are not focusing, not the higher numbers (stopped down?). BTW, I am a lady, not a gentleman, hence the emotions dripping all over my queries;)

So I'm getting that the Sigma was a less than ideal choice. I'm actually fine with that concept- I find that I don't like it at all:) The Rokinon, I love. I love the fixed frame and I do like the manual focus. I will definitely try the diopter fix (I am a beginner and thought it was just to fine tune the digital readout of the parameters). I guess I need to concede that my older age is going to limit my abilities (I'm only 44, but my eyes think I'm 84) with focus and I will have to learn to love my tripod. Rats.
When I put on the lens, the screen asks me to put in focal length, so I put in 85 mm. I am figuring that there may be a different focal length that may jive a little better due to the full frame lens on a less than full frame body. I will do some trialing and erring on that. Thank you all so much for your input! Any suggestions for a better lens for wide angle, since I will be ditching the sigma?
Sorry about the sideways pic- I still don't have good software for editing. (F3.5, 1/500, 85mm, but it says 127mm equivalent).

Another focus issue with my new k3 and I know it isn't the camera body b/c I already exchanged my first one, thinking that it WAS the body. So I have two lenses: A sigma AF 17-35 F2.8-4, and a rokinon 85mm F1.4 full frame lens. The sigma just can't seem to get a sharp focus, even with fiddling with the AF fine adjustment. Is this just a lower quality lens that I should trade up from? The Rokinon is a dream to play with, except that once I dip below 5.6 aperature the focus is completely off. I will focus on a eye and get the shirt collar crisp as can be. The fine focus adjustment doesn't work b/c it is a manual focus only. I figure that the focal point is somehow off. Should I program in a different focal point at the start, other than 85mm, since it is a full frame lens perhaps? Any suggestions?
Working in live view seems to be accurate with the 85mm, but it's a pain b/c I have poor near-vision, and then I get camera shake having to hold the camera away from me to see the screen.
Anyway, I'm so frustrated, I'm wondering if it's just me, or if I should scrap pentax and go with canon, or if I need to invest in higher quality lenses just to get a crisp picture. My sony point and shoot is rendering cleaner lines than anything I'm coming up with right now
Please help?!?
BTW- this forum rocks, so I really don't want to scrap the whole thing.

I have had my K3 for a week and I'm a beginner, as well as an idiot. How do you take black and white photos? Or do you just convert them after you download them on the computer? I would like to view the pic as black and white on camera, but I can't figure out how to do that. Do I have to manually change the parameters of a certain filter? The manual doesn't seem to address it an any language that I can understand;) Thanks!!!

Thank you so much! So I'm good with what I have unless I need to be doing a lot of outdoor work and then I would need a trigger? (I think that's what I translated;)) I figure that I'll pick up the language once I have the actual camera. I hope.

So I am brand new to DSLRs and have just ordered my first: K3, with a sigma 17-35 mm f2.8 and a Rokinon 85mm f1.4 and the Metz 52. I still am having trouble understanding the jargon, so I need to know if I have to purchase any other accessories to get the flash to work off camera. Does the k3 have wireless communication automatically, or do I need to buy a remote or a wireless card? I apologize if this has been addressed, but I can't quite understand Pentaxian, yet:)
