I've owned two Tamron's (24-135 for Nikon-film body - I'd rate it EXCELLENT). It was as good as my Nikon 28-105 which is one of the better "standard zooms" they ever made IMHO. The only thing missing on it was that it said Tamron rather than Nikon... :)

Also had a 500mm Mirror f/8 which I used with Nikon, Oly and Minolta (film days). Again, I was very impressed with and had a lot of fun w/it.

Currently have a 70-300DI for my K10D and it is very nice.

Tokina was apparently begun with a group of EX-Nikon engineers - which might explain the very solid build and excellent reputation.

Tamron/Pentax Combo - Your Thoughs?

Hi All:

I'm considering a change in my current lens line up to (1) gain constant f/2.8 capability (within my most-used range) and (2) broaden the wide end to 24mm, 35mm equivelant. Would apprecite your thoughts..... I currently have (and LOVE) a K10D.

Right now, I have a Pentax FA24-90mm, DA50-200 and Tamron 70-300DI. I am expecting the new f/2.8 and weather-proof series of Pentax lenses to run around $1,000 and up each and none will go from wide or normal to over 100mm (like a 24/28-105 or 24/28-135. And my primary use (aside from the telephoto for birds/animals) is in the 50 - 135 (35mm equivelant) range.

So, that said, here is what I'm considering (and would appreciate your thoughts on - to "replace" my Pentax FA24-90 for primary lens use):
  • A Pentax DA16-45 f/4, and

  • A Tamron 28-75 DI f/2.8.

I was considering the Tamron 17-35 F2.8-4.5 but given they are the same price w/rebates, I much prefer the Pentax 16-45.

Your thoughts are most welcome on this combo.... I've heard that the Tamron is excellent, but you may need to "find a good copy". I've had excellent experience w/Tamron's in the past (24-135 f/Nikon, 500mm Mirror, and current 70-300 DI.

Thanks very muich!

Sigma DG vs Pentax 70/80-200 f/2.8??

Is the Pentax worth the difference in price assuming both could be found from an IQ standpoint. I'm assuming the Pentax is made better. And what IQ differences would one be expected to find? Sharpness, contrast, color, etc... ?

Thanks very much,

Bob

Exceptional color w/the 70-200!!! Most impressive. And sharpness is exceptional as well in your shots. Thanks for posting.

Tamron vs Sigma: 24-135

In a Nikon mount in the Film Days.... It was an EXCELLENT lens.. A bit heavy, but very solid and very sharp. Always thought it was similar to a Nikon 28-105 (which was one of the better mid zooms they ever made - IMHO) but with a better range..... Just missing the "OEM moniker".. :-)

I've acutally considered getting one for my K10D.

Hi:

New Forum Member here..... Have a K10D and a *istD (but *istD likely going up for sale). "LOVE" the K10D but w/the rarity of availablilty of "Pentax Brand" 300mm or beyond options, I'm trying to figure out what to do until some '07-'08 releases hit the stores.

* Have considered a Sigma 70-200 2/8 w/a 1.4 (ro 2.0) extender, but even those are nearly impossible to find and the weight is a consideration for a "carry all day" option.
* Have considered a Sigma 70-300 APO DG or a Tamron 70-300 DI, but cannot find comparitive analysis on these lenses anywhere and overall, "user reviews" seem to be similar (some love 'em, some don't).
* Considered the Tokina 70/80-200 F/2.8, but those are no where to be found in a Pentax mount.

Any thoughts or considerations will be most welcomed. It is GREAT to not be tied to a "IS/VR" lens... :-).. but the alternative of that is the lack of availabiltity of options in Pentax mount.

Thanks much, Bob
