D-FA 35mm vs DA 28-45mm

Too bad there aren't any comparison tests between the A 35, FA 35 and DFA 35. I have the old manual version, but it needs service before I can use it and thought about going for the new DFA because I don't want to use Liveview for every shot. What about the FA?

645 Tilt Shift

I'm presumably going to test the Zörkendörfer Pro Shift Adapter along with the 45mm and 55mm Pentax 67 lenses against the Zörkendörfer factory converted Mamiya 50mm.
Very likely I’m also going to test the Zörk Multi Focus System.
Ideally, the test should be conducted including also the Hartblei 45mm, however I don’t know where to get one, yet.

More info soon. Stay tuned. ;)

As well, thanks for the additional details, veraikon.
I just replied Zörkendörfer and requested further details, like examples from a 645Z /w 67 Pentax 45/55mm lenses and the Pro-Shift adapter.
I doubt the 45mm is sharp enough at any aperture, but the 55mm perhaps.
If necessary, I could also visit them instead of risking a trail and error purchase, as Munich (home of Zörk) is just 200km from my place.

As soon as I know more, I'll let you guys know.

Just wondering if they are sharp enough on the 645z. I have a hard time finding any example of either lens on a 645z.

645 Tilt Shift

This made me very interested in the Mamiya 50/4 as well as the Zörkendörfer adapter and mailed Zörk regarding prices :-) :

ZÖRK Multi Focus System (MFS) /w adapter Pentax 645 (tilt up to 30°) € 550.-
Extenstion tubes in sets 32,50,100mm € 120.-
Rodenstock APO Rodagon 4/105mm € 880.-

ZÖRK Pro Shift adapter P67 for Pentax 645 € 1.400.-
Shift +- 20mm with 360° rotation
Pentax 67 lens on request

ZÖRK Multi Focus System /w adapter Pentax 67 € 550.-
Objektiv Schneider APO Symmar(Digitar) F= 5,6/120mm € 930.-

Very interesting stuff. Actually I dont need tilt personally. Wondering if it's true that it's only for 45mm+, but there's a P67 45mm on the pic so at least that seems to work! And cheaper than a Hardblei.

I'll translate the rest of the mail:
For tilt/shift you can combine the Pro Sa with the MFS to a construction kit.
Each of the pictures above are showing lenses that focus to infinity (!)
Without picture is the conversion of the Mamiya 645 4/50mm. This is very time-consuming and costs about 630 EUR.
A used and converted Mamiya PC 4/50 lens is 1.180 EUR inkl. warranty.
All prices include 19% German VAT.

I'm tempted.

New Huelight Profiles Updagte

I installed the new ones, but left the old ones in place.
The reds seem better now but there is a problem with the greens in their tonality.
It almost seems like a certain range of hue is pushed to much in lightness.
With my latest forest pictures I switched back to the embedded profile for most of the images, because I felt that the profiles gave me a strange feeling about the tonality. Gonna try to post a pic later on.

Tough one. I'd go for #1, because I love eerie, mysterious nightscapes and the tonality is great too.
Must be awesome in big.
And I like the moon eye in #7 and the one with the atomic explosion in the background. ;)

But I'm too fresh to vote...

Banding & strange colour shifts in sky highlights?

When I strip the image to naught contrast in LR it looks like crap in LR with vibrance at 100% (pic1)
I then went to Iridient Developer and used the same S curve in Luminosity mode on its Lighness channel and turned the standard contrast slider to -100 (pic2).

If you have a Mac (unfortunately Iridient Developer is Mac only) you could give Iridient a go. It's got a ton of features which can serve as a better toolset then anything else I've tried.
Yet I'm no expert, I've just played around with the features in context with this thread and learned quite a bit through :)

EDIT: The 8-bit sRGB version in the browser always like a bit crappy with gradients like these I guess. Or what's wrong with that? It looks disguisting, yet the TIFF looks just awesome!
Wondering how to get better 8-bit interpolation...

That's a very interesting analysis Royce, thanks alot. I'll have to read it again, especially on how to prevent the issue.
This is the worst I could make it look in Iridient Developer. I'm not sure if I reached the point where the hues fall apart yet.
In the first image I used the contrast slider and Vibrance, and in the second an S-Curve in Lab mode along with a Chroma push.
Finally I set the colour profile to the embedded DNG metadata instead of using Iridient's default profile (third example).
Not sure what I was trying to achive, because I rarely do extrem pushes like these and can't trust my colour blind eyes. :o
But regarding hue changes the third one seems to be smoothest. I overdid the chroma (ab) push on purpose to bring out the uglies here too.

This is a truly frustrating find, but thanks alot for finding this issue in the first place! Weird it's taken so long to emerge, considering that this lighting situation is a preference for us landscape shooters.
This totally destroys the confidence I had in this camera. I will try to get hold of a contact address through the shop where I bought mine.

Have you compared similar scenarios between DNG and PEF?

Alright, to be honest I have some problems in this area which is related to a very mild red/green weakness.
Appended are screenshots in the following order:
1. v3 Detail+ fast
2. v3 Standard (slower)
3. v3 Ultimate (slowest)

Even with my colour weakness it is apparent in all versions, but it seems a bit better in version 3.
Not sure if it tells us anything else than further assurance that it is indeed a hardware (or to say firmware) problem.
What do you think, will they take it seriously if reported by just one person?
I just bought the cam...it seems like a major bug to me, as I am doing landscape 95%...

---------- Post added 02-27-15 at 01:20 AM ----------

Edit: Now on the white background they seem similarly bugged,

Do you have an example DNG you don't mind sharing so I can try to demosaic it in the Iridient Raw Converter?

35mm 645 A Mold? Should I refund?
Posted By Gonzo

It is odd-looking but seems to have some fungi structure to it. I've absolutely no experience with fungus on lenses or mold. The pictures above are from looking through the rear. I've disassembled lenses only up to the first lens element from the back to replace bayonets (Leica 100mm Macro conversion to Canon) or modify the metal around the rear element to get mirror clearance (Minolta Rokkor on Canon FF).
So I thought I could give it a go. The metal ring around the outter rear lens unscrewed easily, so did the smaller ring holding the lens element. After removing that one, I hoped that I would find the annoying spot on the second element, but it turned out to be clean. I didn't know how to go from there, otherwise I would do it. Too bad I didn't make pictures, but I could redo the disassembly and post pics. If you or somebody else could give me advice for the next step I would be grateful! :D

I would, but the refund would only cover the $499 I paid for the lens. The 120 EUR I paid for German import sales taxes and duty would be lost.
The only way around this is if the seller had another lens he could send as a replacement unit. I totally forgot about this...guess I will ask for a 50 Euro refund, see how that goes and try to clean it myself or to get it cleaned in a shop. :(

I just received a used 35mm A I ordered on ebay from Japan. What seemed to be like a nice catch turned out to have a spot under close inspection.
I bought it for $499 without taxes and duty which mounted up to an additional 120 Euros.

What do you guys think? I contaced the seller and he's offerend a $40 rebate or refund. Appended are some pictures. What should I do? :(

I sold all my Canon gear and went 645Z. I found this place and it seems to be a nice userbase around here who also share very worthwhile info which has been helpful in my decision making, which I don't regret at all so far.
I hope I can contribute something helpful as well! :)
