I'm a new 5d mk II user. My other camera is a k20d. High ISO photography is a major attribute for my needs, and the 5d is working out great.
It was a very close decision between the D700 and 5d mk II. The decision will always be a compromise - they're both great cameras. What swayed me was the higher resolution of the 5d ii. I shoot primes, and the 5d offers greater crop potential. If I'm shooting with an 85mm f/1.8 (just as good IQ as the DA 77mm IMHO and for $300 less) there's the option to crop and get APS-C resolution - so the 85mm is still a short telephoto. That's a big plus.
BTW - I prefer the Canon lens offerings over Nikon. That was also an important consideration.

I just sold a lens on Pentaxforums and it turns out the buyer (I think residing in the UK) doesn't have a confirmed Paypal address on file. (From this thread - confirmed addresses are only in the US, Canada, and the UK.)
The buyer instructed me to ship the lens to a friend in Brooklyn. I sent an e-mail to the buyer's Paypal address on file, and got a response, so that's legit. One more thing - he has one post on Pentaxforums and joined about 3 weeks ago.
I have the buyer's funds sitting in my Paypal account so I can return if needed. I have other interested buyers so selling the lens for my asking price isn't a problem.
Any suggestions?

PentaxForums.com Marketplace Listing Item for Sale
K100D & Pentax-A 50mm f/1.7 Asking Price
US$250 Shipping Destinations
Continental U.S. Only Item Description
Pentax K100D "Classic" Body
SMC Pentax-a 50MM F/1.7
K100d
Since I've had my k20d this body has been used as a backup and has seen little use in the last year, so I am selling it.
In very good condition, around 8,300 actuations. K100d with the nice Sony 6MP sensor. The camera has been well cared for - no scratches/dents that I can see. There is probably some dust on the sensor that should be blown off. I shoot just about exclusively at high ISO so this hasn't been a problem. The camera is in perfect working order.
Includes original box, manuals, body cap, cable, CD, and neck strap.
SMC Pentax-a 50MM F/1.7
I bought this from the marketplace. There is a slight ding opposite filter threads so a filter can't be used (see photo). Other than that the lens is in very good condition - no scratches or fungus.

What camera bodies do you use with the 55/70/77?
The FA77's AF on my k20d is par for the course. It works better when the subject has some contrast to lock the AF onto.

I thought that the general concensus was the Tamron has better QC than the Sigma 70-200mm, but the Sigma has better IQ and faster focusing and more accurate AF.

The Pentax 50-135 is magic. It's limited by maximium aperture of 2.8, but has IQ that matches or exceeds primes in that focal range.
Not the best example of IQ, but here's a shot taken with the 50-135: |

ken, that's good news :)
My 50-135mm is still going strong after 1+ years, and it's good to know that if worse comes to worse the cost is under $200 to repair. I've taken many shots with the lens and assume I have a good one.

Before AF - you mean 35mm film (of course there was AF in those days, too)?
35mm film cameras have super bright viewfinders - and many have split prism focus screens. They were designed for manual focus.
Take a look through a k20 vs. a k1000 film camera. The k20d/7d was just not designed for MF.
I've been experimenting with my 77mm Ltd and k20d in low light - MF with mixed results. I bracket the focus, which is not a perfect solution.

Agreed. To a certain extent (doesn't help with DOF) high ISO can compensate for the slim selection of fast Pentax lenses (compared what is offered from Canikon). For some of us, with the existing Pentax cameras, f/2.8 lenses are just too slow. Improved AF is up there too.

Overall the 7D reviews have been over the top positive. I think the the blogger Darwin's conclusions are still interesting to consider. Thanks for posting your photos and good luck with your 7D!
