Thanks for the help everyone. I am definitely going to have to get me some Sanyo Eneloops. I
will have to check Amazon or Ebay and see if I can't get a large group for a good price. Both of t
those tripods look great, however, with the cost of my trip, possibly a new lens and other
expenses, i was hoping to find a semi-decent tripod under 50-60 bucks or so. I had an idea of
just getting 40-50 dollar one from best buy and replacing the head with something with a little
more padding to minimize shutter shake.

Needs some help picking out a tripod for my trip in august. Keep in my mind I am just a beginner and don't need anything professional grade. I've shopped a bit a camera store in town and Best Buy. The camera store was a bit pricey and some of best buys seemed a little flimsy. I liked the stability of one tripod, however it had a ball-and-socket joint for the head piece. I've been a drummer for some years now and know hardware like that is generally a good route.
I would like something fairly light and good for hiking with but sturdy enough I can trust it with my slr. Anybody have any good suggestions or at least point me good site to buy from?
One other thing. One of the reasons I was attracted to Pentax (among many others) was the AA battery power. I wasn't expecting the rechargeable to last too long in it, but am a little disappointed in how short of life I am getting from my rechargeable Energizers. Are the Kodak or other camera brand of rechargeable batteries any better? Or does anyone know of a good site to buy some in bulk (around 8-16 or so)? I've looked on Ebay but haven't actually seen as good as deals as I hoped. Any advice would help.
Thanks,

Thanks for all the help. These ideas will narrow my research down. I recently got back on a small trip and found myself definitely lacking some range. Not only that, but I love shooting sky/sunset shots and a lot of mine have come up lacking contrast and /or definition. I'll have to play around with them some more. :p

I'm new to the site and to SLR's (for the most part). I have had my Pentax K200 for about a month now and have played around with some of my friends Nikon's and Canons for a while longer. I have the kit lens 18-55mm II and love it but would like to have a little more variety. I am torn between getting a larger zoom lens, like the Tamron 70-200 or just an older prime to have some artistic fun with until I can afford a more expensive zoom.
I take quite a bit of landscape/animal/sunset photos but also love more unqiue, meaningful shots that include memorabila (sp?) and friends/family/pets, etc. All this considered, if I could spend less than $150 I would be pretty happy. Especially since I still need to pick up various other accessories for my camera as well. I appreciate any help you can give me.
