Sticky: FF Officially Announced, to be presented at CP+ 2015

For years I waited with no way to have ultra wide angle on APS, Sigma solved it with the 8-16 and the 10-20. Thanks Sigma. Where was the Pentax?
I still wanted FF but gradually realised I didn't need it, APS saved space and the holy grail of a sensor the same size as 35mm film was meaningless to realists.
Now Ricoh have changed horses in mid stream.
If this means no more pro quality lenses for APS I wont be buying anymore lenses from Pentax.
I won't be buying the FF as my camera bag is big enough already and a bigger sensor just isnt neccessary unless you do huge high res images or are just locked into FF as an objective.

We forgot to see the "big picture" (some FF thoughts)

Yes, when digital first started I needed a FF body to use my old lenses at full wide angle. Now I have digital lenses that go wider than my old FF ones, so theres no more need. The megapixels will make no big difference. If I wanted to get a bigger sensor I would go for the 645Z. But I dont think I would be able to detect the difference, the K3 has enough resolution and noise will reduce as models progress. FF is an accident of history and only desirable because its "more". A Rolex is "more" but it only tells the time like all the other watches. Most people dont need a 645, most people dont need a FF.

I have hard to pin down problem as it only happens now and again, so hard to know if its the body, the lens or the combination. What happens is the F number display on top plate goes to -- and autofocus freezes. After a couple of minutes it returns to normal. Seems like focus info not reaching camera? I have tried fiddling with switches and so on but cannot reproduce fault to order (or at all while I write this although it happened nicely as an egret landed near me this am :-(
I'm using AF continuous mode, spot AF. Auto exposure mode speed/F stop both fixed - variable ISO.

in bracketing mode, the front wheel adjusts by 3 or 5 images
the back wheel goes from .3 to 2

if I change the steps to 1/2 stops it is .5 to 2 (so thats 2 stops difference per shot max)

sorry for slow response, all this will be same on K5 I think (will have K5 tomorrow if you want me to check)

thanks! I was making the mistake of trying to set it without selecting bracket mode first, once in bracket mode on the K7 you get a graphic telling you to use the two wheels to control number of frames and steps.

I want to try HDR and it would be nice to get a big auto bracket range, I cannot see how to get more than 5 exposures at 1/2 stop difference. I would like full stop, several people say it should be possible as their SLR can do it in 1 or 2 stop jumps.
One person even says K10 should do it, detail would be nice:p.
I just went through all the menus and the manual, cannot see how to set auto bracket interval above 1/2 stop. Is it possible?

looks like my Sigma 12-24 was a waste of money, should have got the 10-20 APS only:(

Is the digital world killing what I love about photography?

thats an interesting take on it. For me the great advantage of what is probably best defined as a computer revolution is that I can share my images with whoever might be interested (via my website and elsewhere). Another is that PS has brought a competant colour darkroom into my lounge, I never had that before. My reservation is that, unlike a print or slide, all these images are likely to dissapear into digital dust at some future point when either I don't maintain them or technology makes a major upgrade.

[QUOTE=creampuff;272752]OK this is a counter thread to the
Curious, who did not get a K20 and why?

I had a K10 and also some spare money. For the first time ever I just felt I wanted to have top of range for the hell of it. I'm in the process of seeing how much difference it makes with some test shots, hopefully I will see a payoff. Generally I'm more than happy with both the cameras.

This is true:) But I really want to mess about with my 12-24 at FF, even though my film efforts with it all looked a bit weird.

I dont see how Pentax looks credible without a FF, the Samsung thing makes it all possible, (I understand what people are saying about current lenses). But i'm sitting here with a collection of FF lenses, an APS body and £2000 in the bank ready to hand over to Pentax to let me shoot wide angle landscapes, am I that unusual? Just dont let it be £3000. £4000 I just say no, £2000 I say yes, £3000 oh god.......

just joined and probably not posting a hello correctly, lets try and add one of these here smileys...:p OK seemed to work. Right, I went for Pentax 100s of years ago brecause they tended to be small and I could afford one, had several film bodies, last was ME super IIRC, but always liked my little Pentax 24-50 Tokina 17mm and 70-210 compact telephoto, it all fitted in a tiny bag in my rucksack while out on the hills of UK. Now I have a K10 and a K20, with Sigma lenses 170-500, 70-300, 24-70 and 12-24 along with a new 70mm Macro and it all fits in a HUGE nature trekker sack, lucky I dont do much serious walking anymore.:D What I really want is a FF body as I love ultra wide angle landscapes. Has the possibility of FF digital ever been discussed? It has, well, thats a surprise!

How many Pentaxfans want a new Model?

I would like to see two new things:-
A FF "version" of the K20 with a price tag of under £2000.
A 500mm like the Sigma F4.5 or Sigma to make AF available on the current 500mm (impossible I assume). I wouldnt actually buy the latter, but I just want something to lust after.
