:cool: Just got this gear a few days ago and thought I would post these few comments in case they might be of use to anyone considering the same equipement.
Firstly however, I might mention that the day I brought my prized new toy home -- I was surprised to discover that Pentax does not even exist any more. It has been taken over by another company -- Hoya it think.
Anyhow, I found the K20 easy to get to know. The documentation is clear and simple, and the software and registration works without problems. This is great if, like me, your middle name happens to be Murphy and everthing you usually touch that is technological manages somehow not to work.
I was concerned that the lens might extend itself when pointed down -- as many people have complained. However I checked my copy of the lens in the shop and later in the filed and have found no such problem -- touch wood.
I am a fairly big fit bloke -- but still I found the K20 with the 18-250 lens to be all I would want to carry for very long. I also found it too heavy to be able to hand-hold very steady. Therefore, I recommend that a tripod should be considered as an essential companion for this camera and lens.
Some reviews of the lens I had read complained about its poor performance in low light. So I took it for a walk along Brighton-le-sands beach to Sydney airport in late afternoon on a slighlty overcast day. I unsuccessfuly tried to attach the photos so they coudl speak for themselves. Maybe their file sizes are too large for this forum or something like that. :hmm:
I took a few close ups of flowers to test the claimed 'macro' ability of the lens. Whilst not quite a true macro -- to my eyes it seems to come reasonably close.
My overall impression so far is that this one-lens set up is exemplory for a wide variety of general applications; is fun and easy to use, and produces very satisfactory pictures with heaps of resolution -- suitable for making reasonably large prints from.
I hope these comments and photos might help somone else.
