I think it is rather unfair to show some of the images at 4x the display size of others. Makes them seem more impressive (or maybe they just ARE).

Can't use Pixel Shift Resolution in B mode

Some really bad answers in this thread that don't understand all of the other tools out there. "The stars move" is irrelevant if your DSLR is riding piggyback on a telescope that tracks the sky. Similarly, there are tools like the Vixen Polarie which compensate for the turning of the earth or (for the DIYers out there) you can even construct a "barndoor drive" (also called Tangent Drives) that will serve as a platform for the camera and will compensate for the turning of the earth (the APPARENT movement of the stars).

Also Pixel Shift Resolution will work for exposures up to 30 seconds (to get full benefit you must shoot in RAW mode only (Not RAW+ or JPEG). This would result in four 30 second exposures being made, which would be combined in post-processing to achieve the full benefit (and the equivalent of a 2 minute exposure). I have yet to see anyone trying this with astrophotography, but I have a hard time believing I'm the first to think of it. I'm curious to see what those PSR combined images might look like stacked in another program, which can take the best x of y exposures, for instance to enhance detail.

Item for Sale
MINT SILVER FA 77mm f1.8 - wish to trade for a DA* 200mm f2.8

Asking Price
0.00 USD

Item Location
Kearney, NE (United States)

Item Description
It feels weird to get rid of what is (hands down) my Best Lens, but I am not going full frame and (with the sort of stuff I shoot) I just don't use it much on my K-3 II. What I would use, is a DA* 200mm f2.8 which is worth close to what my Silver Limited is worth. So rather than hassle with listing and fees, etc. I'm looking to see if someone would like to trade. The 200mm must be in excellent condition and come with hood & caps. My 77mm Limited comes with the original caps and pouch and is in MINT condition. (I'm out of town at a trade show on Wed. but can send pics when I return).

I've been buying & selling on Pentax Forum for many years, so check my feedback. Thanks for looking! (If you know someone that might be interested, please draw their attention to this.)

I posted this in the Wanted section, but Adam recommended I post it here, as well.

It would make sense to discount the S rather than the SC, if the 4K version was the reason.
I suspect the SC is discounted because people are not happy with the quality of the video and that it is also lacking these features:
  • ・Color temperature specification shots *1

  • ・Interval composite shots *1

  • ・My Settings *1

  • ・Multi bracket shooting *1

*1 RICOH THETA SC is not supported.

Item for Sale
Full Frame Tamron 1.4X Pz-AF MC4 auto focus TC - (MIJ! THE quality budget choice)

Asking Price
159.00 USD

Item Location
Kearney, NE (United States)

Item Description
Only reason for selling: I somehow have TWO of these and only really need one. (You might have Gear Acquisition Syndrome if you have this problem). :o

As you probably know, if you are looking at this, this is THE top optical quality general purpose TC for both Full Frame and DA lenses, with the added bonus of supporting screw AF lenses. Made in Japan quality and optics, this was originally produced in the age of Pentax AF film cameras (like the verable p-Z1p) so it will definitely cover the full frame of the Pentax K-1. (Some people are just figuring this out.) I use mine mostly when I need extra reach for my Bigma, which is useful for birding and wildlife (or anything that you just can't get closer to)! Turn a 300mm into a 420mm. Turn 500mm into a 700mm.

This post contains a link to the comparison images made with this TC by someone on their K-1 with different lenses, compared to a crop of an APS-C without the TC. (Look at the filenames to determine what was being used).

Photos of the item are coming, but it is excellent condition (inside and out) and comes with both caps. Been selling here on PF for years (sporatically) so buy with confidence. Will be happy to ship worldwide, for actual shipping costs, but the service would have to be with tracking/delivery confirmation to your address which normally costs a bit more.

Thanks for looking!

Funny how people (who are aware of the difference between) will pay more for the m42 S-M-C Takumar Version 2 (6 elements, 6 groups) version of this lens (previously they were 5 elements in 4 groups). But they are apparently unaware that this lens is simply that great optical formula with the convenience of a K-mount. It is a great lens.

Half Frame is only part of the story. If you peruse the ads in the magazines at this same time, 110 film was the rage. You may recall that Minolta made two models of an SLR 110 film camera and that Pentax got into the act also with its 110 SLR system. This is the back cover ad (prime real estate) of the Nov. 1975 Camera 35 magazine (same issue that had the K2, KM, KX reviews).

However, speaking of 1/2 Frame cameras, here is mine: Agfa Optima Parat

I'm sorry to hear that, but it appears you are correct.

I did find (in this 2008 PF thread) a user who reports that he uses the Rear Converter A 1.4X-L on the Tamron 60B 300mm f2.8. He reports "The image is great, with no easily discerned quality loss!." That combo would give one a 420mm f4, if my math is correct! (I've nowadded this info to the original listing.)

Item for Sale
LN IOB Pentax Rear Converter A 1.4X-L (Best teleconverter EVER for long Pentax glass)

Asking Price
325.00 USD

Item Location
Kearney, NE (United States)

Item Description
Just in and not offered very often (anywhere):
Pentax Rear Converter A 1.4X-L in original box - LIKE NEW
If you can find a nicer one BUY IT. Heck, if you can find ANOTHER one, BUY IT.
 KEH just sold their only copy (for $385 plus shipping). Mine is in nicer shape and includes the original case, strap, caps AND box!

This is one of the highest-rated pieces of Pentax glass out there with many reviewers stating that they can see NO IMAGE DEGRADATION when used with the recommended Pentax lenses. The only currently made lens that this converter works with is the DA* 200mm f2.8 (where it turns it into a 280mm f4. For comparison, a 300mm f4 is over $1000. The price savings/difference is even more if you put it on longer lenses.) PF Reviews here.

Features of this teleconverter:
  • Super Multi Coated (SMC) optics

  • Manual Focus

  • Has electrical contacts to support auto-aperture (Tv or P) exposure modes in addition to M and Av

  • The converter does not transmit focal length and MTF information from lens to camera

  • Designed to provide superior image quality on tele lenses 200mm and above

  • Front element measures ~ 3.5cm in diameter and protrudes ~ 2 cm

Supported Lenses:
  • In this 2008 PF thread) a user who reports that he uses the Rear Converter A 1.4X-L on the Tamron 60B 300mm f2.8. He reports "The image is great, with no easily discerned quality loss!." That combo would give one a 420mm f4, if my math is correct!

  • SMC Pentax-DA* 200mm F2.8

  • SMC Pentax-FA* 200mm F2.8

  • SMC Pentax-A* Macro 200mm F4

  • SMC Pentax-A* 300mm F2.8

  • SMC Pentax-FA* 300mm F2.8

  • SMC Pentax-A* 400mm F2.8

  • SMC Pentax-A 400mm F5.6

  • SMC Pentax 500mm F4.5

  • SMC Pentax-F* 600mm F4

  • SMC Pentax-FA* 600mm F4

  • SMC Pentax-A* 600mm F5.6

  • SMC Pentax 1000mm F8

  • SMC Pentax A* 1200mm F8

  • SMC Pentax 135-600mm F6.7

  • SMC Pentax F* 250-600mm F5.6

  • SMC Pentax FA* 250-600mm F5.6

  • SMC Pentax 400-600mm F8-12

This teleconverter is NOT compatible with the SMC Pentax-DA* 300mm F4 and the SMC Pentax-FA* 300 mm F4.5 lenses due to the protruding front element.

A word about PF Marketplace "average prices"
IMHO, PF Marketplace average prices are not as helpful as they could be. They don't require people to put anything in the "Price Paid" field. This leads to people (often) NOT ENTERING the price they paid if they paid MORE than the "Average Price" reported. Conversely, people like to report it when they pay less than the reported "average price". This (lack of complete data) keeps the "average price" reported by the PF calculation artificially low (many times not matching the Real World prices). They also don't have people put in the CONDITION of the lens they bought, meaning that the "bargain" lenses are being averaged in the with the "MINT" leneses (and everything in between). Finally, they don't always reflect the proper prices on lenses that will be in more demand now that Pentax more full frame K-1 bodies are out in the market.

This lens is the shortest most compact 135mm lenses I have ever seen (no doubt thanks to its Internal Focus design). PF (Rave) Reviews here: SMC Pentax-F 135mm F2.8 [IF] Reviews - F Prime Lenses - Pentax Lens Reviews & Lens Database

Optically and mechanically, this lens is in superb condition. Cosmetically, I would rate it EXC (Photos below). Glass is flawless. This scarce lens is now in even MORE demand thanks to the superb Pentax K-1.

Check out Real World samples taken with this lens model on Pentax Photo Gallery.

Item for Sale
Pentax Refconverter A - Rotating Angle Finder 2x Magnifier RARE w/case & eyecup

Asking Price
119.00 USD

Item Location
Alda, NE (United States)

Item Description
Rarely offered and hard to find: Pentax Refconverter A, the switchable 1x or 2x rotating 90 degree finder. Even rarer to find with the original case and eyecup! This is the only version of the Refconverter that fits (with no vignetting) all modern day Pentax DSLRs, as well as the following Pentax film cameras: LX, ME-F, Super Program, ME Super, MG, ME, MV, MV1, and MX.

This "Made in Japan" finder gives you an unreversed, laterally correct image with your choice of 1x or 2x magnifications. It is a 90 degree finder that swivels 360 degrees, offering matchless usability and comfort. In addition, he 2x is especially useful whenever precise focusing is desired.

+4 to -4 diopter adjustment by rotating the top of the eyepiece. This unit is is excellent condition and comes with the original Pentax eyecup and Pentax snap case. Snap case vinyl has age cracks, but does its job of protecting the refconverter well.

Photos coming.

$119 (firm) plus actual shipping to your location. PM me for a quote.

Here is a very useful review for the Pentax Refconverter A (note: the Pentax Forums review section lumps all of the refconverters together. ONLY THE Refconverter A version works with no vignetting on modern Pentax SLRs and the film cameras listed above).

Several years ago I was hiking in Rocky Mountain National Park (Colorado) and a guy passed me coming down the mountain, with a camera on a tripod. I just got a glimpse. As he passed me and we made eye contact I said "Is that a Linhof?" and he (not quite believing he heard me correctly) stopped and asked me to repeat myself. Then he answered with a sort of surprised "Yeah!" No clue how I knew that or even what model it was. Musta got a glimpse of a logo or something.

How much do your average Field Cameras (with lens) weight, anyway? My 45D with 90mm on exceeds 5 lbs (by a bit apparently... all I have here at home is a 5 lb postal scale). Ballhead and tripod obviously add some more. If I were planning on hiking with it, I would get a carbon fiber tripod instead of my aluminum Manfrotto.

I plan on using this in the field, normally a short distance from the vehicle. I realize that field cameras are preferred, but I decided that I was more interested in something that would have ALL of the swings/shifts/tilts so I could learn how they all work. I wouldn't be doing this at all if it was too costly, and as much as I'd love to have beautiful wooden/brass field camera they are way overpriced compared to a basic monorail. I could ruin two or three monorails like this and still spend less than one field camera. (I'm not the first person to use a monorail in the great outdoors, by the way.) :)
