While not a bird in flight this was taken with my K-3 III, D-FA 150-450mm mounted on the Pentax HD 1.4x Teleconverter. The combo does play well together. This was at full zoom of 450mm plus the 1.4x for 630mm.

I have some similar button wear on my K200D. So far I have not noticed any on my K-3 or K-3 III. I do have some slight paint wear on my K-3 III. I'm not really concerned about it myself.

Enjoy it. It's a great addition to most any Pentax lens if you're looking for longer range. If you ever get the chance to upgrade to a slightly used K-3 III you'll really like it!!!

You can also use the Image Sync app to connect your phone to the K-3 III and pull GPS data that way. I choose to use the O-GPS1 & 2 because turning on networking and or bluetooth adds to battery drain on the camera. I often shoot 5 to 6000 shots a day at the races. With a battery grip and 2 128 GB SD cards I usually don't have to mess with changing batteries or SD cards.

You would be correct. I was happy with my K-3 but the K-3 III really does outperform it. I have not used any other brands so I cannot speak to how well they work. I've always learned to work with what I have instead of constantly throwing money at different things hoping to fix things.

If it's a manual lens and asks for a focal length at startup multiply the focal length of the manual lens, you're using by 1.4. When it asks for focal length at startup that's to properly figure shake reduction. On my K-3's it automatically multiplies the focal length by 1.4 when the TC is mounted.

The only issue I can think of is your K20 may not recognize the TC and throw off the shake reduction settings by not adding the extra focal length.

The ARCA team I was on back in 1983 after a win at Muskingum Co. Speedway in Zanesville, OH. Dirt tracks were always fun to run but, required a LOT of cleanup after!!!

Taken with my Pentax ME Super.

I believe it is a space issue. The K-3 III has a larger pentaprisim viewfinder. I use an O-GPS2. You can also use the Image Sync App on your phone and connect to the K-3 III and get GPS data that way. I found however that enabling Bluetooth will cut into battery life.

I get that. Last weekend at the New Martinville Vintage Regatta I put my new D-FA 150-450mm on my K-3 and my DA* 60-260 and HD 1.4x TC on my K-3 III. The 150-450mm was really too long for the frontstretch. The focus on the new K-3 III is just so much better than the K-3. I may be looking for a gently used K-3 III this winter as a second body for next season.

Thanks! Boats are a little tougher than cars due to boat are prone to bounce up and down rather unpredictably.

You're welcome. This was a Vintage Racing event composed of vintage inboard hydroplanes and outboards. It's more of an exhibition but the drivers do try to put on a show for the crowd. These boats are no longer allowed to race competitively due to lacking proper safety construction. They are museum pieces that have been restored to running condition.

I've also been shooting Pentax since 1981. Started with an ME Super.

I set my sensitivity to the highest whatever that is. My camera is not in front of me right now. I have not tried any other settings. Last weekend was my first racing outing with Ver. 2.0 firmware. I was very happy with my results. Most shots are with my DA* 60-250mm mounted on a Pentax HD 1.4x TC. a few are with my new D-FA 150-450mm. It was too long for the front stretch though. A lot of people complain the 60-250 is too slow to focus but I have not found that to be an issue.

I do occasionally pan some shots however boats will move up and down along with left to right or right to left. The rougher the water gets the more up and down motion that really screws with panning. Also, I'm currently battling 2 bad shoulders that don't allow a very fluid panning technique. Here are a few from the past.

Went to my first boat race on the Ohio River at New Martinsville, WV last weekend since updating to Ver 2.0 firmware and having my new D-FA 150-450mm lens. The K-3 III performed better than ever with the current firmware. The 150-450mm lens is great except it's too long for the frontstretch on the river courses. I fell back to my 60-250mm and 1.4x TC on my K-3 III and mounted the 150-450mm on my K-3 and then swapped cameras between front and backstretches. The K-3 does OK with the 150-450mm but it's no K-3 III in the focusing department. Next step for next season is to save for a slightly used K-3 III. I've killed my camera budget for this year!

Here are a few shots from the weekend.

Nice shots! Cincinnati has a very photogenic skyline. We spent a lot of time on the river back in the 90's. I'm just up the road on the north side of Dayton.

I've had real good luck with the 150-450mm on the 1.4x TC. All shot with Ver. 1.8. All shot at 630mm.

Great shots!

I've been quite successful shooting boat racing with my Pentax's starting with my K200D. I will say with each new body my keeper ratio has increased. My K-3 III did exceptionally well last fall at the Wheeling Vintage Raceboat Regatta. I used the DA* 60-250mm mounted on the Pentax HD 1.4x Teleconverter. They play well together.

I now have the D-FA 150-450mm to work with this season.

I'll try to help some.

This is a DARN GOOD lens on the K-3 III. All of these are from my K-3 III and this lens. The lens is mounted on the Pentax HD 1.4x Teleconverter which it plays well with to give you 350mm of range. I'd grab it up if I didn't already have one.

While this is off my K-3. A friend in Australia had this made off of one of my prints. It's a 3' x 5' banner for his shop. I took the shot in Wheeling, WV at a Vintage Race Boat Regatta. He sold the boat shortly after this was taken. Hope this helps a bit in your decision.

I like the back button AF. when I put my camera up to shoot my right thumb automatically pushes the BB AF. That way my camera is continuously focusing on the moving subject. All the shutter button does for me is take the picture. I find it works quite well with any moving subjects.
