Dust or stain?

Sigh - yes please close it. People assuming it's ust dust when its obviously more, no point. I don't want to argue. I just want have a camera that has a clean sensor from the mfr, which I finally have now. Others don't care but my problem is that if they don't care then why would the mfr care to maintain QC on release? "Let the consumers inspect and clean if needed" really?

Clinton - you sir are a duesch - thanks for commenting though.

OH and by the way, i did get some dust on my sensor- and guess what? i blew it away with my rocket blower - you can't due that with stains or stuff more "solid" that are stuck to the sensor.

:)

And its not remorse (yet). I can easily keep my money and buy something else. I just expect something better out of Pentax which i'm confident i will get. IMO, it seems like they rushed the camera into the consumers hands, obviously. Very poor QC on this release.

So it's not remorse, it's patience and faith in Pentax( although it's wearing)

It's stuck to the sensor, i'm 99% sure i didn't introduce it. Like i said, i am not paying $30 more for a cleaning kit to remove junk off a sensor coming from the manufacturer.

If you don't agree with that and accept subpar standards for what you pay for. that's you.

I will have my 4th replacement tomorrow. We'll see.

Waiting on my 4th K-5 to arrive hopefully stain and speck free, last 2 had stains with the 3rd had a dirty sensor out of the boxt with a nice black speck stuck on sensor.

No problems setting up returns with pre-paid label provided to me.

Sorry but whether it's a stain or a speck of something stuck to the sensor i am not paying $1500 for a NEW camera that i have to clean out of the box. I believe i can even see the tiny speck on the glass of the sensor but do not have any sensor cleaning swaps to clean to test.

I am sending it back, replacement on the way already.

i'm not going to waste any more time. it obviously shouldn't be there so i am sending it back. i was hoping for 3rd times the charm.

Highly disappointed with Pentax. You can make a great cam with a great sensor but please don't provide it to consumers with quality control issues.

Well, even if it isn't a "stain" per say it's still a quality control issue with the sensor - this shouldn't be here with a brand new cam and it isn't just "dust", it's too profound.

I find highly doubtful i introduced this with a couple seconds of exposure to the air when i put the lens on to test and it not being removed after using my rocket blower.

I used my rocket blower on the sensor to remove any possible dust and also the dust removal feature on the cam. no effect. Looks like a stain to me. it's a shame that is my 3rd cam with the issue.

The spot is in the lower right frame.

I'm afraid to buy one period at this point. Even if i happen to get a clean one i'm afraid over time the issue may reappear.

Hopefully Pentax will issue so reassuring words soon other than "we're aware and working on it"

38xxxx sent back.
39xxxx received, same issue.

This is the K-5 Lens kit, maybe the body only is fixed because their moving faster than the kit?

Sigh, i'm going to wait a couple weeks or so.

Couldn't you just dial down the resolution on the K-5 like you can on a Nikon FF shooting with DX lenses instead of FX lenses?

I'm going to buy the K-5. I have the K20D now so not in a big rush but if there won't be any sales on Black Friday on the K-5 i will purchase before then.

Anyone know of a place that may drop the K-5 price for BF? Or should i just troll once the day hits?

Thanks!

Upgrade K20 to K5 ?

it appears ALOT of detail is lost mainly on the red channel compared to the K20D - due to RAW noise reduction? - take a look at IR and compare the 2 and you will easily see. especially 1600 vs 1600 on both cameras.

Kinda sad about that, maybe they will fix. I mean isn't RAW supposed to but completely non-processed?

K5: DFS can be switched off?

Since it can be turned off i'm assuming Pentax dubs it acceptable on the sensor heat.

So does anyone have any sample shots? say 1minute , 2min, 5 and maybe even 10?

I thought i have decided to go Nikon because of Pentax's failure in a lot of areas like this and noise performance but this camera is looking like a decent one.

For very long exposures like star trails for etc? Basically i don't want to take a 2 minute image and have to another 2 minutes for the Dark Frame Subtraction to finish before i take another - this is not an issue with Canon/Nikon.

FF in 2010?

This may be a n00b question but:

When Pentax releases a FF model, will it be K-mount? Will current APS-C lenses work on a FF? if not then why?

thanks.
