Thanks. I did get other shots that were "head on", I just haven't posted them. :) It was difficult to get those shots during the wedding though with the way things were setup.

Which one looks better? This one? #1

Or this one? #2

Thanks for everyone's comments!

Thanks. I think the Picassa website must detract from sharpness and saturation. They look a lot sharper on my monitor and much more saturated. I have gained a lot of respect for the wedding photogs that do this for a living. :)

 It did inspire me and helped me tremendously. I'm still wading through the 700 photos, but all in all I was pretty happy. Definitely not professional quality pics, but they are really happy and I'm really glad I did it. It was a great experience. Thanks again!

Absolutely fantastic! I would LOVE to be able to do this kind of work. Are you self taught or are there some classes I can take? :)

My niece asked me to shoot her wedding. It was a "if you don't I won't have one" deal so I agreed. I was excited, but scared at the same time. I think it turned out pretty well considering... :) Thanks to to some awesome people on this site, I was able to do a decent job... I think. :) Here are a few shots...

CC always welcome. :)

Thanks! I did surprise myself. :) It was alot of fun, but a lot of work at the same time. (I still need to learn how to use that flash better as well as the settings on the camera) I'm going to post a few more in pics in the photo part so not to clutter up this forum with pics. There is one particular pic that I wanted to turn out much better than it did... Maybe you can tell me what to do right next time :) I wanted a silhouette pic of her so I had her get sit in front of the window with some sheer shades. This is what I came up with some PP work.

I wish I had more time than I was allowed because I was getting into posing her. hehe

Here's a few... been soooo busy this week I haven't had much time to convert them from raw to jpg.

Hmm... these look MUCH sharper on my computer. :) The bride and groom are extremely happy with what I've showed them so far. Good thing they weren't expecting much huh? :)

Thanks again for everyone's help!

I chose not to use it. Too bad because it takes awesome pics. It will focus in manual, but not in AF. I checked all the connections and cleaned them just to be sure. No go. :( I decided I didn't want to have to worry about manually focusing with this being my first time trying to shoot a wedding.

The pointers were greatly appreciated. I only found out about a week before the wedding that they wanted me to do the shoot so unfortunately that left me with no time to get it fixed. I definitely shouldn't have assumed it would work just because it did the last time it was on the camera. I've only used it about 1/2 dozen times. Expensive lens for just a few times huh? :) Looks like I'll be sending it off to Tamron.

Thanks! Happy Mom's day to you too. I'll get some pics posted asap. :)

Yippee! It went awesome! I took about 700 pics. :) Just got through scanning through them. I'll post a few when I'm done processing them. I'm pretty tickled with myself. I got some awesome shots! All the ones you're supposed to get and some awesome candid and posed shots. I must say though... I now know why the professional wedding Photogs charge the big bucks. Man it's a lot of work! :)

Thanks again from the bottom of my heart. You guys helped me out so tremendously! I'm sure I wouldn't have done as well without your help. I hope you like the pics as much as I do. Tomorrow is a big day with it being mommy's day and all so I'm not sure how much I will get processed, but I will definitely post a few when I get done.

Murphy's law is in full affect at my house. My Tamron 70-200 won't focus manually in AF mode. I haven't had it on the camera in a few months. Worked fine before that. Any ideas??? My 18-250 still works fine. Panic setting in! :) It tries to turn just a tad, but doesn't. Manual works, but I don't know that I want to trust my aging eyes.

Thank in advance!

The big day is tomorrow (Saturday). It starts at 4:00. I'm going at 1:00 to get some of the bride getting ready. I'll also use this time to have someone take "the walk" to get some settings. Man! You guys are starting to scare me. I can't thank you all enough for your input though... Hopefully I won't have a brain fart and it all fly right out of my head. I'm going to take some cheater cards just in case.

Almost forgot... I did make a trip to the store and bought an 8 gig Extreme II card. Hopefully that will do it along with my two 4 gig cards. Lots of batteries too. Man... this thing is costing ME a small fortune. :) I'd love to shoot in RAW, but I don't know that I would have time to go through humpteen million pics and get them converted for her either. Thinking of doing RAW and Jpeg, but good heavens I'll need more SD cards! :)

Thanks so much everyone! Exactly the information I need. I received the AF540GZ today. Now what do I do with it? hehe Read a LOT before wedding day. I guess it's a good thing I'm not the excitable type. I'd be a basket case right now. Thanks to you guys, I'm only weaving one!

We had the "I'm not a professional" conversation tonight and she seems to be good with that. She obviously knew that when she asked me. I really appreciate everyone's input. It's been extremely helpful. One last thing... what settings would you use for an outside 4:00 wedding on a cloudy or maybe not so cloudy day? :)

Thanks again!

My niece and I will most definitely have that conversation tomorrow. I'm not a pro though I hope to give her excellent pics, but she should not expect them. :)

The wedding is at 4:00 (outside). Just learned the reception starts at 5:00 (inside). Holy cow! Not much time to take pics. :) My camera is a Pentax K200D. Pentax 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 Lens, Pentax DA 18-250mm f/3.5-6.3 ED AL , Tamron AF70-300mm F/4-5.6, and Tamron AF 70-200mm f/2.8 as far as lenses go. I'm not planning on purchasing another lens. I ordered the AF540 flash which will be here Tuesday. It comes with a Stofen Omni Bounce f/Metz 40MZ1i/3i.

Thanks so much!

I took the plunge and ordered the AF540GZ to be shipped overnight for Tuesday delivery. A bit painful to the pocket book, but no one rents them around here. Hopefully I will like it and maybe even get into doing weddings. I'll definitely be reading up on how to use flashes.

It's supposed to be cloudy that day and around 60. Any advice on what settings to use outside would be greatly appreciated as well. I'm meeting with my niece (the bride) on Monday to go over what she wants.

I'm thinking of doing the touch ups and then putting them on CD for her to choose what she wants printed and then letting her have them printed.

I love this forum. Everyone is so helpful. Thanks again!!

You were right. There are only two local camera shops. One never has carried Pentax and the other just quit. No luck renting for me. I have been shooting RAW, but recently switched to jpeg because I was finding my HD filling up with pics I hadn't converted so thought I'd try jpeg to see if it made that big of a difference. I was actually pondering whether or not to shoot raw or jpeg. :) I guess I'm going to have to check out next day shipping with Amazon or the likes.

Wow! Thanks so much for all of the input. I don't have a 2nd camera body, but will check into renting one as well as a flash. I'm meeting with the bride Monday to talk about what she wants. The wedding is outside so at least I don't have to worry about the ceiling. :) I have two 4 gig cards. My plan is to just fill them up if the opportunity is there. Should get some good shots out of that. :) The wedding is this Saturday so I'm going to have to scoot to the camera shop. I was planning on ordering one, but won't have enough time for it to get here and for me to learn how to use it. I wish I had known I was going to be shooting the wedding a few months ago.

There have been two flashes suggested... Should I rent the AF540FGZ or the Metz 58 AF-1? Also, what settings do you think are best since this is an outside wedding. I'm thinking the only inside shots will be of the bride getting ready.

Thanks again! You guys are great!

Thanks for everyone's comments. It's my niece's wedding and I will be the only shooter. It's the "they won't have one if I don't" deal. I do realize the conflict it could cause, but I'm sure they realize I'm not a professional and hopefully don't expect the pics to be as such, but I, of course, hope they will be. So with that being said, I need to get a 16-50/2.8 and an AF540?

Thanks again and all that pray... say a prayer for me! :)

Hi!

I'm excited. My niece wants me to shoot her wedding. I've never done one. I would like to get a flash before her wedding next weekend. I have a K200. I know there are several posts in the forum about flashes, but I'd like to know what would be best for a beginner. Maybe some suggestions on a good lens as well. What I have so far is listed in my tag line. I'm planning on taking some shots of her getting ready for the wedding. The actual wedding will be outside. Any helpful hints on shooting the wedding would be great as well. :)

Thanks so much!

Thanks for everyone's comments. She's the only grandchild that doesn't grown when I take her pics now. :)

Can anyone recommend a book or a website with instructions on how to use lighting? Perhaps some not so expensive lighting techniques? I currently don't own any flashes or flash equipment. I should probably ask this question in another forum as well. What would be some good starter flash equipment?

Thanks. The 2nd shot was my first real attempt at panning. The 3rd is my Shar-Pei, Angel. She always seems to be smiling when we're outside playing. :)
