Yesterday we were at the Hudson Valley Shakespeare Festival at Boscobel to witness the amazing feat of 3 men performing the complete works of William Shakespeare in 2 hrs. If you're near the Hudson Valley you have got to check this out. Obviously no performance pics but here are some shots from the grounds before the show.
K200d JPEGs with the 18-55 II kit lens. Slight sharpening in PP.
The Mansion
The Big Tent
The United States Military Academy across the Hudson
This is my first photo post from the K200D. I am very pleased with the JPEG quality right out of the camera. It was a pleasant night but very hazy... I do need to add a circular Polarizer to my bag.

I'm in the same situation as you are and came to the same conclusion. Pentax now has the 17-70SDM which throws another wrinkle in the decision but the pricing on the Pentax has my $$$ marked for the Sigma.
The Sigma is a full stop faster on the wide end and only ~1/2 stop slower long, is a Macro lens and has a better warranty. The Pentax is SDM but the Pentax SDM motors are not ring types and apparently offer no focus speed/reliability advantage.
Some folks have said that the Pentax is sharper wide open vs the Sigma corner-to-corner. From what I've seen the Sigma is plenty sharp.

Catskills to the left, Adirondacks up top, Berkshires to the right and NYC on the bottom.
For the cost of a short drive/train ride to NYC from any of the 3 Dutchess County Metro North stations and a one day unlimited ride metro card, one can visit practically all of the world. Can't beat that!!!
Poughkeepsie is very unique, the City is very accessible yet there's little downside to being so close (outrageous taxes, housing costs...).
We're also with weekend trip distance to Boston, Baltimore, DC, Providence, Philadelphia, Montreal, Ottawa... We get around the the Boston-DC corridor a LOT!

Just dropped in from the beautiful Hudson Valley in upstate, NY (Poughkeepsie, Dutchess area). Been a Pentaxian since NOV 2006. Feel at home enough to join a Pentax specific forum.

Howdy... I just joined PentaxForums and this looks like the ideal thread to introduce myself.
Hmmm... what made me a Pentaxian? Value!
Like many others in may generation (Gex X), I have absolutely no brand loyalty. Here's my full Photography bio. Nikon FT2
Contax 167MT
Minox EL
Fuji DL Super Mini
Fuji MX-1700
Nikon Coolpix 775
Sony DSC-F717
Olympus E-500 2 Lens Kit
Panasonic FX01
Pentax K100D
Pentax K200D So.... aside from the Fuji which was my first digital camera, the only time that I actually stayed with a brand is with the Pentax DSLRs. Why? Value. IMO (and many others too appaently), good glass is much less expensive for Pentax bodies (vs CaNikon, Sony, Oly....) and Pentax bodiesm especially the entry K200D is an absolute bargain in terms of price/features/performance.
To be honest... I've seen amazing photos from all brands and types of cameras. Pretty is as pretty does... So would I be as happy with photos from a Nikon, Canon a Sony... actually, yes... but my wallet wouldn't be as happy.
So long as Pentax continues to be the price/features/performance leader.... I'll be a Pentaxian. n short.... because I'm a cheapskate.
