Today I checked the availability of K-3III black online at Ricoh Imaging Store, Bic Camera, Yodobashi Camera, Map Camera and Kitamura Camera.

Black K-3III body in stock: Ricoh Imaging Store, Bic, Map.
Black K-3III body no stock: Yodobashi ("discontinued"), Kitamura ("discontinued").

Black K-3III and 20-40Ltd kit in stock: Yodobashi.
Black K-3III and 20-40Ltd kit no stock: Ricoh Imaging Store ("not in stock"), Bic ("discontinued"), Map ("sold out" and "discontinued"), Kitamura ("discontinued").

All of them have silver body as well as 20-40Ltd kit in stock.

You might remember that the flagship Kitamura store in Shinjuku hosted the Pentax film project exhibit/event featuring Shiori Iwakura's film work as well as a film camera prototype (which was mostly wrapped/covered with a paper, only the film winding part was exposed).

Face detection is for Live View, subject recognition is for OVF. My guess is that once you switch the camera to Live View mode, the option becomes active.

Thanks! Luckily I live near a stopover place for sandhill cranes, the birds show up in spring when migrating to the north. It's funny that this only happens in spring, though, I haven't seen any sandhill crane going south in autumn.

This should be the camera the missing registration number for Pentax/Ricoh Imaging products is reserved for!

BTW it's apparently a TLR Daguerreotype so it's more likely a new Ricohflex than a Pentax.

There was no "pleased to" in the original Japanese expression "皆さまへお知らせします".
It's a polite form of "we inform you". That's a completely neutral expression that could be used for positive and negative news. The entire sentence is simply "we'd like to inform you that we got an official call from the sales".

Sandhill cranes, shot with DA*300 and HD DA 1.4X telecon.

The 1st one is ~7Mpc crop, the 2nd ~17Mpc, the 3rd ~11Mpc. I like the 3rd one as they look as if they're just jumping in the air as their wings are down.

The last one is not a picture, it's linked to my cellphone video on Flickr showing a LOT of cranes coming down to this place.

I haven't written anything indicating otherwise, if you haven't noticed.

Sure, I'm not disputing that either.

I'm not pointing out their wrongdoings, either.

I'm simply stating that manufacturers could do a better job informing the users about the merits and limitations of weather resistance of their products as well as the reality of the warranty, even though they are not obliged to. That way, more people can make their own informed decisions more easily instead of getting surprised and disappointed after unknowingly doing something that might have caused water damage. I didn't write "they should" do better, because that's entirely up to them, but I wrote "I hope" because I honestly hope so as that would be a good thing in my book.
I don't think that "if you choose to ignore the warnings" is applicable to OP and most others who suffered unexpected water damage, BTW.

CanadianBlue, sorry this happened to you.
Having warranty terms available somewhere and actively educating the users about the relevance of the said terms in relation to the features of the cameras are two different things. I hope that each and every piece of "dust-proof, water-resistant construction" or some such comes with a clear caveat like "(however, if water damage happens it won't be covered by our warranty)". That's still far from ideal but that's a simple and honest thing to do. Nobody does that? I hope that everybody does.

Problem with loading battery in Q
Posted By kwb

Thanks for confirmation. The tabs seem to be a part of a single metal plate that is behind the battery compartment, and the tabs are inserted into the compartment through slots in the wall. See the pdf file attached to this post on Pentax Q Resources thread, the tab thing is part A19 on page 2. That's the diagram for the original Q but the battery/tab mechanism is probably the same for all Q series.

Your pictures look normal to me though I cannot tell if the slots for tabs are healthy. If you have a tiny piece of mirror glued to a rod, or an extremely long-necked otoscope or something, maybe you can check if something is stuck there?
If the problem is not slots, you probably have to disassemble the camera. Maybe the spring mechanism jammed. If you'd like to go that far, our fellow member kayakfari wrote about the subject of disassembly/reassembly in a blog article.

Though it's not that likely, check that your batteries are NOT swelled due to degradation. If it's bad enough you cannot insert it any more. That happened to me more than once.

Concerning contact cleaner, I wouldn't do it.

Good luck troubleshooting!

Hey babywriter,

Are you talking about two spring-loaded metal tabs (circled in red in the attached) that gently ejects the battery when you disengage the battery catch? If you cannot easily push these tabs all the way in to hit the bottom of the battery compartment using a thin tool or rod, that's a problem. Foreign object somewhere, or maybe something was bent out of shape? Is that what you're saying? (OTOH, when the battery is out, these tabs move back towards the battery door a bit (maybe 1cm or half inch) from the bottom of the battery compartment at most, and that's normal. )

These tabs don't prevent battery from going in the wrong way as far as I can see. Raised step at the bottom of the battery compartment (green rectangle) plays that role as the recess on the battery will accept that step. If you insert the battery the wrong way, the non-recessed edge of the battery hits the step.

If you are talking about something else, could you elaborate,

Thanks for this, it seems to be the definitive answer, which doesn't seem to be in the manual of any of my Flashpoint products.
I can confirm that the second curtain sync for Flashpoint Zoom Mini and Zoom Li-ON X R2 worked with KP as well as K-3III (and even Q7) but only when the flash was mounted on camera AND not using radio. As soon as radio triggering was involved, second curtain sync option became unavailable on the flash as HoundFrog wrote. It doesn't matter if the flash was set as a master on camera or as a slave. KP's second curtain sync mode menu didn't help.

I agree with you, Pentax couldn't have competed with 3rd party flash manufacturers as far as cost per function is concerned.

My Flashpoint Zoom mini and the radio trigger costed 120 USD total excluding tax/shipping, bought them new but separately from Adorama. I could have bought another generic manual flash and I'd have spent less than a single AF201FG. If I buy Godox/Flashpoint 2.4GHz radio trigger for other systems like Canon Nikon Sony or whatever, I expect that my Flashpoint flashes for Pentax will work with that just fine, though I haven't tested that.

Good news. Both of my Flashpoint flashes on my KP did 2nd curtain sync without any fuss.
In the attached, everything is running from left to right because I'm panning the camera from right to left. Red trail comes from the power lamp of the amplifier. 1st one is with Flashpoint Zoom Mini for Pentax, 2nd is with Flashpoint Zoom Li-on for Pentax.

Flash setup is really simple even for somebody like myself who has never used 2nd curtain sync before, just set it to TTL mode and press SYNC button once or twice until the 2nd curtain sync icon appears on the flash LCD.

KP flash menu was set to "Wireless (Controller)", I haven't tested anything else, don't know if that made any difference. M mode, shutter 1 sec, manual focus, press the shutter trigger while panning, and that's it.

That's it for today, I don't have time to test the wireless trigger.

You wrote "no setting in the camera or in flash' menu" for your TT350P. Can't you press Sync button on the flash to change the Sync mode? If you don't know how the 2nd curtain sync mode icon looks like, it's exactly like my Flashpoint products (see the screenshot of the manual in one of my previous posts, or see the TT350P manual).

Since you wrote that, I checked my KP's menu and it has 2nd curtain sync setting (at least for built-in flash) but my K-3III menu doesn't. I was just thinking about testing Flashpoint flashes on KP (as DA*300 and 1.4x telecon are glued to K-3III these days), but it would be interesting to test both. I cannot do it now but I will.

I have a Flashpoint Zoom for Pentax, Flashpoint Zoom Mini for Pentax (that's the one builttospill mentions), and Flashpoint R2 Mark II transmitter for Pentax.
https://www.adorama.com/fplfsmzlxp.html?
https://www.adorama.com/fprrr2tpii.html?
I haven't tested 2nd curtain sync either, but all of the three seem to support it. Flashpoint Zoom is supposed to have its own menu for that. Transmitter manual says that I have to set the mode in the camera body. See attached screen shots, these manuals are specifically for Pentax-compatible models.
I've never used 2nd curtain sync in my life but I can do some tests if people are interested.

Oh, I totally missed that Q has 10 pins on the body, and I got my pin 1 and 2 backwards while your pins 8 and 9 are right!
Embedding a small PCB in a Q-C adapter sounds like a great idea. Good luck!

These four half frame pictures were shot with Ricoh Auto Half from ~60 years ago boasting a 25mm fixed focus lens. It's not even MF, you just back off by 1.5m or ~5ft at least to capture the subject in focus, see the operation manual of Ricoh Auto Half camera.
It's understandable that Riko the model got much closer than that for her selfie, she is not a giant with 5 ft long arms (that's my guess anyway ).

Cool picture. Now we know that they use 32-pin version of RL78/G13 microcontroller from Renesas (RSF101BCA).

I scribbled on the picture to help my eyes see which pad goes to where, see the 1st and the 2nd attached. (3rd one is the same as the first two, but one of the pictures is mirrored and rotated so it's easier to see the front-to-back connection.)

Red pad (I assigned number 8 to that) should be camera's positive supply that goes to what seems like a voltage regulator that feeds the microcontroller's positive supply (VDD, pink). Gray (number 6-7) is the common ground. Orange (number 0) goes to the interrupt pin.

Yellow pads (number 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5) are either used for serial communication or timer input/output or something. Either (3,5) pair is used for I2C, (3,4) is used for UART, or (3,4,5) is used for simplified SPI protocol according to Renesas' spec sheet. 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 can be used for timer too.

keelan, I cannot help but I'll be extremely curious to know what you will find out. Good luck!
