Hey what are you looking at?

Sandhill cranes, shot with DA*300 and HD DA 1.4X telecon.

The 1st one is ~7Mpc crop, the 2nd ~17Mpc, the 3rd ~11Mpc. I like the 3rd one as they look as if they're just jumping in the air as their wings are down.

The last one is not a picture, it's linked to my cellphone video on Flickr showing a LOT of cranes coming down to this place.

Today I checked the availability of K-3III black online at Ricoh Imaging Store, Bic Camera, Yodobashi Camera, Map Camera and Kitamura Camera.

Black K-3III body in stock: Ricoh Imaging Store, Bic, Map.
Black K-3III body no stock: Yodobashi ("discontinued"), Kitamura ("discontinued").

Black K-3III and 20-40Ltd kit in stock: Yodobashi.
Black K-3III and 20-40Ltd kit no stock: Ricoh Imaging Store ("not in stock"), Bic ("discontinued"), Map ("sold out" and "discontinued"), Kitamura ("discontinued").

All of them have silver body as well as 20-40Ltd kit in stock.

You might remember that the flagship Kitamura store in Shinjuku hosted the Pentax film project exhibit/event featuring Shiori Iwakura's film work as well as a film camera prototype (which was mostly wrapped/covered with a paper, only the film winding part was exposed).

Face detection is for Live View, subject recognition is for OVF. My guess is that once you switch the camera to Live View mode, the option becomes active.

2nd stage and jettisoned fairing halves and the first stage, all clearly captured in one picture, that's a cool picture!

Thanks! Luckily I live near a stopover place for sandhill cranes, the birds show up in spring when migrating to the north. It's funny that this only happens in spring, though, I haven't seen any sandhill crane going south in autumn.

This should be the camera the missing registration number for Pentax/Ricoh Imaging products is reserved for!

BTW it's apparently a TLR Daguerreotype so it's more likely a new Ricohflex than a Pentax.

Oh, I totally missed that Q has 10 pins on the body, and I got my pin 1 and 2 backwards while your pins 8 and 9 are right!
Embedding a small PCB in a Q-C adapter sounds like a great idea. Good luck!

Cross posted to Post your K3 iii pictures thread.

A juvenile Northern Goshawk(?) was harassed by a Large-billed Crow and flew away. This was in a small park in the middle of super-densely populated area in Tokyo and I was surprised to see the hawk at all. I'm on travel and didn't bring my DA*300 nor 1.4x HD telecon, but I'm very happy that 55-300mm PLM with K-3III did the job nicely for me.

The first 5 shots and the last three are from two different burst sequences. All cropped to ~13Mp except the last one, which is ~8.3Mp.

I'm super happy that my panning happened to be OK on the last one, and that the camera-lens combo kept the focus on target.

Thanks for this, it seems to be the definitive answer, which doesn't seem to be in the manual of any of my Flashpoint products.
I can confirm that the second curtain sync for Flashpoint Zoom Mini and Zoom Li-ON X R2 worked with KP as well as K-3III (and even Q7) but only when the flash was mounted on camera AND not using radio. As soon as radio triggering was involved, second curtain sync option became unavailable on the flash as HoundFrog wrote. It doesn't matter if the flash was set as a master on camera or as a slave. KP's second curtain sync mode menu didn't help.

Moonlit (color), shot with KP and DA* 16-50 PLM at the widest end, f/7.1, ISO 4000, 30sec.

Super Moon, 2023/07/04. K-3III, DA*300 and HD DA 1.4x telecon, f/7.1, ISO 1250, 1/20 sec. This is a stack of 2 frames.
I tried pixel shift but the seeing (turbulence) was bad enough the motion correction was not great. I ended up extracting all four frames and stacked them together. There was a slight improvement going from single to 2 frame stack, but using 3 or 4 frames looked slightly worse than 2.

Good news. Both of my Flashpoint flashes on my KP did 2nd curtain sync without any fuss.
In the attached, everything is running from left to right because I'm panning the camera from right to left. Red trail comes from the power lamp of the amplifier. 1st one is with Flashpoint Zoom Mini for Pentax, 2nd is with Flashpoint Zoom Li-on for Pentax.

Flash setup is really simple even for somebody like myself who has never used 2nd curtain sync before, just set it to TTL mode and press SYNC button once or twice until the 2nd curtain sync icon appears on the flash LCD.

KP flash menu was set to "Wireless (Controller)", I haven't tested anything else, don't know if that made any difference. M mode, shutter 1 sec, manual focus, press the shutter trigger while panning, and that's it.

That's it for today, I don't have time to test the wireless trigger.

You wrote "no setting in the camera or in flash' menu" for your TT350P. Can't you press Sync button on the flash to change the Sync mode? If you don't know how the 2nd curtain sync mode icon looks like, it's exactly like my Flashpoint products (see the screenshot of the manual in one of my previous posts, or see the TT350P manual).

I have a Flashpoint Zoom for Pentax, Flashpoint Zoom Mini for Pentax (that's the one builttospill mentions), and Flashpoint R2 Mark II transmitter for Pentax.
https://www.adorama.com/fplfsmzlxp.html?
https://www.adorama.com/fprrr2tpii.html?
I haven't tested 2nd curtain sync either, but all of the three seem to support it. Flashpoint Zoom is supposed to have its own menu for that. Transmitter manual says that I have to set the mode in the camera body. See attached screen shots, these manuals are specifically for Pentax-compatible models.
I've never used 2nd curtain sync in my life but I can do some tests if people are interested.

I agree with you, Pentax couldn't have competed with 3rd party flash manufacturers as far as cost per function is concerned.

My Flashpoint Zoom mini and the radio trigger costed 120 USD total excluding tax/shipping, bought them new but separately from Adorama. I could have bought another generic manual flash and I'd have spent less than a single AF201FG. If I buy Godox/Flashpoint 2.4GHz radio trigger for other systems like Canon Nikon Sony or whatever, I expect that my Flashpoint flashes for Pentax will work with that just fine, though I haven't tested that.

All with DA* 300 and HD1.4x telecon.

White-crowned sparrow eating Russian olive fruit.

River Otter. Cropped to ~16Mp. I was happy to see this guy during my first walk to this place in 2024 as I haven't seen him/her or any other river otters for at least a year. I knew they should be around somewhere, but they won't come out easily when humans are around.

Hooded Merganser. Cropped to 7Mp.

Cool picture. Now we know that they use 32-pin version of RL78/G13 microcontroller from Renesas (RSF101BCA).

I scribbled on the picture to help my eyes see which pad goes to where, see the 1st and the 2nd attached. (3rd one is the same as the first two, but one of the pictures is mirrored and rotated so it's easier to see the front-to-back connection.)

Red pad (I assigned number 8 to that) should be camera's positive supply that goes to what seems like a voltage regulator that feeds the microcontroller's positive supply (VDD, pink). Gray (number 6-7) is the common ground. Orange (number 0) goes to the interrupt pin.

Yellow pads (number 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5) are either used for serial communication or timer input/output or something. Either (3,5) pair is used for I2C, (3,4) is used for UART, or (3,4,5) is used for simplified SPI protocol according to Renesas' spec sheet. 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 can be used for timer too.

keelan, I cannot help but I'll be extremely curious to know what you will find out. Good luck!

Wow, glad to see many HP calculator users here!
I first used 41C as well as some older models with red 8-segment LEDs at my advisor's lab as a freshman grad school student and got hooked. I bought myself a 32SII later, which I still use today. HP calculators weren't widely available in Japan back then (I doubt if they ever were as Casio is always the dominant force there), I remember I had to buy mine from a VERY small merchant in Akihabara, I suspect they probably imported small batches on their own. The price wasn't outrageous but steep for a poor grad student nevertheless, I probably could have bought a few Casio models with similar computing functionalities with that money, but hey, no RPN no real calculator!
I use tan notebooks with page numbers printed (https://www.amazon.com/Ampad-Computation-Ruled-Sheets-22-157/dp/B000DZEA2G/?...ntaxforums-20&).
