Poll: What do you think of the looks of the K-01?

Oh so close. I think all they had to do was slim it down from the camera body to the actual grip... to give it some curves and it would have looked so much better IMO. It does look a little difficult to hold and use the buttons/dials based on the video.

For features it seems like it would have been a home run if they had put the flash to the side and put a spot for a EVF and made had the LCD pop-out.

Why are Canon DSLRs so noisy at low ISO?

I always take these types of tests with a grain of salt because in real world final photos you won't see any differences. I've owned a Pentax *ist DS, K10 and K20 and now have a Canon 40d, 7d and 1DMKIII and in the final products there is no difference in low ISO noise.

Sure, you can see some low ISO noise in the 7d if you look at it at 100% viewing but as usual that isn't representative of the quality of the final product.

As always, just IMO :)

Nature Some Egret Shots

Thanks for the replies all! :)

That is correct, the 400L f/5.6 does not have IS. All the 400mm shots were hand held and some of the 560mm shots were as well (I don't remember which ones were or weren't). The lens is pretty light for a 400mm and is fairly easy to handhold so I don't miss having IS all that much.

Hi Borno,
The only thing that is comparable between the 40d and 1d III is the LCD screen, they are both useless LOL Everything is just better with the 1d III, faster/better AF, micro adjust, dual card slots.... etc etc etc. I'm really liking the quality of the photos as well. Not sure I can explain exactly what I'm liking better but there is real nice quality about them.

The comparison is a little closer to my 7d. AF on the 1d seems a tad faster but not a huge difference. The AF options and menus are similar between the two (each having a few features the other doesn't).

My usual disclaimer that these were not taken with a Pentax camera :)

I was trying to get some in flight Tern shots that didn't really pan out but while I was waiting an Egret landed right in front of me. The 1st few with the bare EF 400mm f/5.6L and the last few I added a Kenko 1.4x TC.

Hi everyone,
I'm selling off the very last of my Pentax gear. I've been holding on to this for a while but I should really pass it along to someone who will use it. I'm selling for $325 shipped and paypaled

Here is what I'm selling: Note: I have no original boxes for these items and the rear lens cap for the 18-55 is non Pentax

Pentax ist DS camera. I was the original owner and bought it when they fist came out. Camera still performs great but it does need a sensor cleaning.

Pentax DA 18-55mm kit lens. Nothing wrong with it, glass is clean

Tamron 70-300mm LD Macro lens: Another great lens, glass is clean

Vivitar 135mm f/2.8 screw mount lens with the screw mount adapter (non Pentax) on the lens. The adapter is on there pretty good so it is almost like a permanent kmount lens. I have the removal tool as well so I'm sure you could get it off.

2gb SanDisk Ultra II CP card

EMS shoulder bag

Extra set of batteries

Remote shutter release

Everything:

Photos. All the photos (except the one of the camera itself) are taken with the istDS camera being sold and either the kit lens or Tamron.

Tamron Lens, photo take with the istDS and kit lens that is for sale:

Vivitar Lens, also take with the istDS and kit lens:

Kit lens taken with the istDS and Tamron 70-300

Remote Shutter release:

Screw mount tool:

EMS Bag:

Hi everyone,
With the closure of the Canikon forums I guess you'll have to put up with me posting some non Pentax shots here again :D

My most missed lens (along with my Pentax DA* 300mm) since moving over to Canon was my Pentax FA 35 f/2. A couple of weeks ago I picked up a Sigma 30mm f/1.4 EX DC HSM. I have to say that I'm VERY pleased with this lens. The more I use it the more I love it :)

These are a few photos I took earlier today

I was wondering if you might make that decision based on the traffic. Hard to compete with the big Canon/Nikon forums out there I guess.

Looks like I'll be posting more here in the off brand forums again :)

Like others have mentioned it should focus but it will be slow and in bad light it could hunt quite a bit. It is one of those things that you have to try and see if you can deal with it.

LOL When he started to say that the in body was going to add noise I basically discarded everything he said after that. I get the sense he is still in school or recently was and still has his head in the theory of it all instead of real life experiences.

I agree 100% :) That is the #1 thing I miss about shooting with my Pentax. I didn't rely on it all the time but the times I did it was so nice.

I actually don't have any IS lenses because there really aren't any affordable ones I'm interested in. I'm thinking about replacing my Sigma 17-70 DC with the new OS version though.

Yup, and Canon wouldn't loose sales of their IS lenses if they put IS in body..

Sorry, just a comment about a thread Ping and I are involved in on one of the Canon boards :)

Questions for people who have switched to 40d/50d Canon from Pentax
Posted By palmor
Replies: 32

I switched from the K20 to the 40d and now I have the 7d. Like others have said the AF of the 40d is much faster then the Pentax and it has predictive tracking AF for taking photos of moving objects (birds, sports, motorsports, etc).

IQ wise there is a difference but I think it is just that, different... neither one is really better then the other. I tend of PP my stuff so you'd barley be able to tell which I took a shot with.

Noise wise I think the 40d and k20 are pretty close but I never did any real testing. I will say that the 7d is better then both of them in the noise department which I think is pretty amazing for such a high MP sensor.

Hope that helps, ask away if you have any more specific questions

Just a quick thought. From reading the forums the single AF point is larger then the red square so try the spot focus.

Hopefully we can help you figure out whats going on :)

I always liked my DA*300 and Kenko 1.5x TC combo. If you get the right Kenko TC it will still use the SDM motor and gives excellent results.

I guess the only thing longer that you can still get new is the Sigma 500mm/f4.5 but it is $$$

I'm guessing it is because of ISO6400 and the really flat fluorescent lighting of the venue. I tried to fool around with the levels/saturation on some of them but I felt like it started to look unnatural. :)
