I agree that CR might be of benifit once in a while. However, it is clear that today one doesn't have to round up information by driving around to pick up newspapers, Everything is there web from fact to opinion. Furthermore, would you believe a company that also sells a magazine to tell poeple where to invests their money and another telling them how to hangle health problems. The fact that they hold themselves out as experts in everthing is evidence of servere limations. I prefer my medical advice from my doctor.

upgrade to the K20 or to the new D90

It might have been mentioned, but if you look at the high iso photos at DCRP from the nikon D90 vs K20d there is a substantial difference in noise. The K20D at 400 is like the Nikon at 1600 to me.

As for me, I want a K20D but am afraid that the K30D or whatever will be out when I buy K20D. Additionally, the prices are now not comparable since you can get a K20D at Amazon for about $850.00

Why you young whippersnappers. I am class of 66. One night, when we were not supposed to score at all, Alabama fumbled in the end zone and a Vandy player fell on it (we lost of course). w
We were so excited that everyone went to the airport to meet the team.

Go Vandy!!

Criticizing Pentax for being a little behind is not IMHO bashing pentax. Correct, this new Canon camera has nothing to do with Pentax(apples and oranges). As for me, I don't care about video, sound, HDMI, or full frame. I just want a better K20D. Read all the threads and they agree, as does my limited experience, that the K30D needs better autofocus, better white balance, faster fps (not veryone is a landscape photographer - some like wildlife and sports), and better metering. It also needs to catch up with Sony and Olympus with better auto shake. I don't think I am bashing Pentax to ask for these things and soon!

As I said, I am waiting for Pentax to snow me with their next camera. However, green or not on the other side of the fence, I will not have to read posts about them going out of business. Of course, know camera is perfect, but that doesn't mean they are all equal. I would like to stay with pentax, but they have to meet my needs. We will just have to wait and see.

I am going on a trip Dec 15th. Until then, I am waiting to see Pentax new camera. Unless it is a real winner, with better white balance, better metering, much better autofocus, and antishake at least as good a Sony, I am switching to N or C. Then, I woun't have read posts about possibly going out of business, I won't have to throw away shots for poor focus, and the white balance and metering will be better. Yes, photography is who is behind the lens, but am an amature. I don't need to be worring about those other things while I am trying to compose. If I see a moose in alaska like this lasts trip, I want it in focus fast and at least 5fps. I am partial to pentax. I always have been, but it is to the point that I don't need the aggravation. I know this is sacreligeous, but tough. I bought their K10, and it is their obligation to keep up. How can I buy more lenses if I can't count on them in one way or another? I am not rich.

A fairy tale and some reflections about some Pentax fans

I am a new comer, but respectfully disagree. I have a K10D. I have taken some nice pictures with it and the IQ is fine. I bought it because my father always had Pentax, but more importantly it was weatherproof. I am very partial to pentax and biased against Canon and Nikon.

However, as I read these posts, they sound like they were written by a defense attorney. "We didn't run over the plaintiff, but if we did, he is better now than before so we owe no damages" Based on reading most of the posts, Pentax is perfect, and if it isn't, then is less expensive so it is still better.

For example, I just learned from this one that it has the most accurate focusing system. However, when my friend and I tried to shoot a bird flying around the pier, his Nikon tracked it and my pentax was out of focus. We actually swapped cameras and found the same result. It is not what was behind the lens. I have plenty of out of focus shots from my recent Alaska trip to convince me that the autofocus is too slow ( (I know, then go buy a canon).

His Nikon also has a more accurate auto white balance than my Pentax (I know this can be corrected so pentax is best).

And then there is the 3fps which sports photographers call "hit and miss". ( I know years ago sports illustrated pics came from slower camera and 3fps is fast enough to make 5 or more fps unimportant --if I don't like it I should go buy a Nikon and find out all the trouble it has.)

Further, almost everyone agrees that Pentax underexposes it pictures.... (I know....)

And then there is the plastic body instead of magnesium (I now it is weather proof), the noise at high ISO the lack of certain lenses, and the difficulty finding special lenses to rent. I signed up for a trip to Alaska this next February with a pro photographer to photograph the Northern Lights. I asked him what kind of lens I needed for wildlife we might see. He had never heard of a K10D and had no suggestions.

My point is that there is plenty wrong with pentax (yes, with other brands too, I know!). It makes no sense to pretend there isn't. "We can do this to overcome this problem and that to overcome that problem" excuses are all over the forums. We deserve a faster focusing system (even though it is now the most accurate in the world), a better auto white balance, and a better metering system. These are basics and Pentax should keep up with ALL other brands on these. We also deserve better quality control on the lenses, so that we don't have front focusing problems on them and pray we get a good copy.

Personally, I have been checking here and all over the net hoping to find that pentax came out with a new camera meeting these expectations. Because as much as I lean towards pentax, if the other brands have them and Pentax doesn't, I will have to switch. It's kind of like supporting your local camera store. You want to buy there, but at some point you have to defer to your pocket book.

K20D vs Canon 50D & Nikon D90

I don't see anything wrong the that pic either. I just got back from Alaska. Several things surprised me. 1. How many passengers ran for cover in the inside passage when it started to drizzle (one guy was soaking wet with his umbrella over his camera). 2. How sharp my pictures were with the 50 135 and 300mm lenses (when in focus). 3.) That I had to throw out a bunch of shots due to white balance and focusing issues. I am waiting to see what Pentax does. If it doesn't offer a camera with improved light balance, faster fps and better autofocusing before my next trip, I will get something else. I am not sure that I it will be the 50d or D300. I'll have to convince myself to get an APC. Canon 5D has much better IQ and less noise. Perhaps the real future is 35mm frame. Who wants to buy a bunch of expensive lenses for a soon to be out of date format?
