Its always interesting reading FF wish @ Pentaxforums
I work in a camera shop in Germany and February is a damn boring cam selling month. That’s why I decided to play with a D700 and 5d mk ii with some nice primes, L and Nano lenses. I was also comparing them to APS-C cams like D7000 and 7D.

What I can say right away is. Yes the pure image quality on modern APS-C is stunning. More than what I need @ 90% of the my time (Iam just a motivated hobby shooter). But in comparison with a FF, the IQ of a FF is breathtaking. We don’t have Hasselblads, but I bet it will be even much more better than a FF.

But also these Cams are heavier (not nice for those who do traveling with some lenes). I really loved the D700, but damn this is a big bulky and heavy cam! I would use it in Studios if I had one ;-). The 5D is nice, but Canon control sucks comparing it to a Nikon and Pentax. Nikon has a very similar user button setup like a Pentax.
It’s not like you are selling a FF the whole day. What the Mass want is small user Friendly Better IQ bodys like D5100, 1100D, 600D etc. They buy 2,3 lenses at some later point and that’s it. It’s them who keeps the SLR business running and not the FF users.

Let’s be honest who of us is going into a shop and drops 5K for IQ. Some of us have also a house, car and a family to finance!

I also discussed this topic with my brother who works in a pro SLR shop. They have like everything D3x, 1Ds and stuff. But fact is they also make their money with the cheap stuff.
The pro who make money with their images or the ones who want pro images already went to NIKON of Canon. That’s true according to my opinion.
Colleges can't understand why Iam using a Pentax, but they’re still speechless showing them Pentax images from me. Most of the young people also don’t know that there is brand like Pentax. Sad actually!
Business is tough. Olympus is also having problems. They had their mighty E-5 and now they are producing micro 4/3 probably to survive.

I think Canon and Nikon make FF cause they have lots of reserves. Volkswagen also owns Bugatti, not like its profitable, but Fxxk they have the money.
I think anyone who knows the FF capabilities and the cost for this IQ should buy Canikon. Also cause they have the widest upgrades for their bodys. And not wait for a company to bring out a lens or something.

A decision everybody has to make for themselves (me too! Still!) But like I said APS-C is great too!

I would thank Pentax if they made a FF SLR, but Iam not going to blame them for not making one or annoying them all the time.

Like lot of you mentioned this camera needs a good price tag!
I work for samsung cameras all over west germany and we also have mirror less cams like the nx 11. It is mostly aimed at buyers who want better image quality in a compact size.
There is a lot of action going in the mirror less sector, like nex 5, new panasonic g3 etc. It is quite difficult to sell such cams above 600 € regardsless of their feature.
Well thats my opinion!

K5 plus the 18-135WR (tested with my K200d) pictures at the bottom.
.......................................................
Dear Pentax Fourms Members,
last sunday I had the chance of Testing the Pentax K5 at Photokina in Köln.
Since there has been a lot of discussion going on about this camera I will make it short.
Well I just tested the camera for about 2 minutes and what I can say is, that it is a huge step from my K200d. The focusing and shutter speeds are so quick that it feels like a canon 7d. Also the upper lit display in orange also looks nice. I recongnized immediately that this cam feels so light. Maybe because it had the new 18-135WR which is really light. I would really buy one if I had the money. If you dont need the fullframe like a 5d mark II or the new alpha 900 the K5 is really a big deal. Menu controlls are like on the K-x
Another few words to the 18-135 WR which I could test on my K200d. Well it is good zoomer plus WR. But this lens doesn't perform fast and quick which Iam used to on my 17-50 F2.8 Tamron. I could also test the older Sigma 70-200 and Tamron 70-200 both F.28 and they are so much quicker, well almost for the same price. I would get the Sigma because focusing and sharpness felt much better then the Tamron which was still to slow for a 2.8.
Thanks for reading

Hi Everyone,

today my beloved Kit "K200d + Tamron 17-50 f 2.8 arrived"
After looking a while what a nice team they were, I directly made a focus test from

focustestchart.com The setup was 100% correct, even measured the 45° correctly.

As a rookie Iam 90 sure that the lens performs well. But I would love to hear your opinions. I was lucky to get a made in Japan tammy.

I would love if Pentax would go Full Frame. But fact is, if it would be wise and worth to go full. The reason is because the market share for full frame is only low I guess;)

Hi Everyone,

some people know me, reporting stuff about Photokina. Some facts about myself. Currently doing Geological Science in Bochum Germany. Its fun, but not easy. Probably the whole life aint easy...;)

Now your help: I was lucky to get a photography course, starting on Tuesday at my University. Actually I wanted to get the new K200d on my B-Day next month, now I need it for next week.

I was planning to get the K200d + Tamron 17-50 2.8. The kit lens is only 50 Euro more, but Iam looking for better image quality.
Next month I would then get a DA 55-300mm.

16-50 * is to expensive for a student, and why get a 16-45 f4 if you can get a f 2.8

Iam very thankful for your thoughts.

greetz from Germany

@ Kunzite
I aggree with you, that you couldn't test all the gadgets in a high manner like Olympus or Sony, but I still had a good chance taking a look at the models I liked. You could feel free to use. For me the AF on Olympus felt fast even on the E 520. Still I like Pentax, because of their better lens models, upper lcd etc.
Did you notice, that the Nikon booth was the poorest. You had to wait in line, to get a glimpse.

@ opiedog

Thus Iam new to Dslr didn't feel any difference on AF using a 18-55 on the K-M. A Pro would have. K-m only got 5 AF Points.
Anyway the K-m is like a stripped down K200d with no weaher sealing, no upper lcd and bit lighter. Range goes to ISO 3200 + 3,5fps still only 4Raw's. Thats almost like the K200d's 2,8 fps.
Really aimed at the rookies. A match for Nikons D60

Hi Dan

Viewfinder on the E 520 felt like a K200d. But much bigger and brighter on a E3. No upper lcd on the Olympus but much faster Autofocus.

Hi Every one
Just came back from Photokina, and already writing some thoughts and info’s about the exhibition. I am just a new bee, so sorry for some mistakes. Well after arriving in Cologne correctly on opening time on the second day I was making my way to find some interesting things and get my hands on some nice dslr’s.
There is so much to say, but I will keep it short.

First about Pentax.
Had the opportunity to hold the new K-m model which is an entry level dslr. The woman in the Pentax booth told me that, it had no weather sealing + no upper lcd. It felt much lighter than a k200d. But otherwise almost same functions.

Olympus: Olympus booth was not that big, but you could check out all their dslr on full test. Today I am 100% convinced that the focus on the Olympus system is the fastest I have ever tested, and I did test a lot of cams today. It was lighting fast, second would be Sony.

Sony and Canon: Well Sony and Canon as the big players had the biggest booth. Canon had the new Full frame 5d II and Sony the Alpha 900. I am sorry for not testing the 5D, but had the chance to shoot with the 1ds Mark III, and this was a machine gun. The Sony Alpha 900 was handling good, and the viewfinder was much better than the Alpha 350, but the cam was not my taste.

Nikon: Nikon had their new D90. This cam was really good built. Looked almost same as the D80 + that nice HDMI output. Had fun playing with it. I also made some shots with Nikon’s D3. Did I say the that it’s viewfinder was so big, I thought I was looking out of a window.

Sigma and Tamron: These lens manufacturers were also playing big roles. Noticed that Sigma hat their new modified 18-270mm super zoom and 10-24 wide angle. Just added some extra mm, comparing to the current models. The 18-270mm looked also much bigger than the 18-250 and 18-200 which almost look alike.

Samsung: Samsung was not that good according to my opinion. They just had some lcds, eneloops and 2 20GX. But the did have plenty of compacts. The Samsung dslr felt 95% like a Pentax.

Adobe: Adobe had also a big booth. They did plenty of superb tutorials on Lightroom 2.0 and the new upcoming Photoshop CS4. The guy explained that after talking to lot of photographers, they made the workflow on CS4 much easier now. No more menu searching. Anyway Lightroom 2.0 was so sweet.

There were also lots of Chinese companies. Some had nice products, like camera bags etc, but most of them were poor made.

Conclusion: For me clear winner was Pentax and Olympus, because Pentax had the best booth and did even more advertisement than Canon and Sony. So don’t worry that Pentax will go bankrupt ;-) Loved it. Olympus did the best job letting use all their models in front of a yellow jeep with sand (pict. On flickr). Really was nice spending some time there.

Sorry for some grammar mistakes (never talk English in Germany)
Also created my new flickr account with pics of the Photokina incl. Pentax k-m, and lots more. So please visit. (Photos were just shot with a Canon Compact)

Hi
just wanted to know if shooting in AWB or Neutrel would be better for Lightroom, Adobe Camera Raw etc. or doesn't it actually matter, in which mode your are shooting.
Thx

German Student + K200D Help

Hello Everyone,
my name is Mathan and Iam doing Geological Science in Germany.
Since I love taking photos very much I have decided to buy a K200D. I took about 4 days reading all over the whole Internet about the difference between the D60 etc, Rebel Xti. Never thought that Pentax was in a whole other class and much better Pricing. Went to few camera shops today and I fell in Love with this beauty.
So your help for me.
Should I take the K10d or the K200D since the K10d only costs 100 Euro extra. (Can't afford and also dont need the extras now of the K20D).
This is going to be my first D-SLR and I love the fact that the body is weaher sealed because of my Study.
My question was also, can I take different veryties of photos with the K200D or do I need a K10D eg. for slow Apperture. I also considered of leaving the DA 18-55 and getting a Sigma 18-200 or a Pentax 18-250 directly cause I need zooming.

What is the benefit of the Pentaprism over the Pentamirror
& good about having the second dial...!!!

Thankyou very much. :D
