And tumbled across some urban decay when I visited the city center during the week. Homeless people actually live here. Urban Decay by Noel Bowers, on Flickr
And the famous Nelson Mandela Bridge-I wanted to get closer, but time constraints were against me, and also it has become a hotspot for crime, so I thought the better of it. Maybe another time. Nelson Mandela Bridge by Noel Bowers, on Flickr

WOW, what a great bunch of photos so far. This one is hard because I like taking photos of signs and have hundreds.

Taken at Buffalo Point on Antelope Island in The Great Salt Lake. Not the sharpest photo, but I like the moment captured.

I think this is a pretty sad development... We photographers have become obsessed with pixel peeping, and now the *buyers* of art-work are going the same way... What happened to just seeing a photo you like in a gallery and buying it for the enjoyment of the image?

But lets not forget that even taking the photo contains manipulations. The photographer can tell a lie even with a photo that was not manipulated, simply by framing, by excluding context or by implying a context. By photographing one side, but never the other. By photographing the examples that fit their agenda, but ignoring the many counter-examples. Not to mention that even if a photo is truthful, part of a series, tries to tell the whole stories.. there will still be media reports that use only parts to tell whatever their agenda is.
A simple example is the photo of a soldier abroad, playing with a native child. Photo might seem heartwarming, but the story is that the soldiers just shot up a civilian car. Only surviving family member was the little child, and one soldier tried to comfort the child while they waited for appropriate services to arrive. The photographer has opportunity to hide some photos and show the others, to frame the shot without the dead bodies behind, etc. But the photographer decided to publish the whole series, to tell the whole story about the event as he witnessed it. Still the media has the opportunity to cut the photo from the series, not tell the context, and so on. Recruiters and "PR" can take the photo to improve the image of that army, even though the actual truth would do the opposite. So if the photographer shoots raw and fixed WB in post, adds a little sharpness and contrast.. that is the least important part of the whole problematic with journalistic photographs. (the previous example is based on a true story btw)

I was out walking around the pond at the local park looking for birds to photograph. The birds were scarce but I noticed a few spots of ice along the shore, the snow was all gone. Originally I was trying to catch the reflection in the water but the waves were not cooperating. Ultimately I got this shot with the water droplet. Riverside Park Sunset-1.jpg by Michael, on Flickr

While cooking out on the deck the floodlight in back of me cast a strange shadow into the yard and wetlands below. The camera in front of me looked over the deck on a tripod and I took this pic using the delay on the K5 @ 1/8 sec f/3.5 ISO 3200.-I used the K5's posterization filter to give it an eerie look.-charliezap

OK, I'll play. I don't have many shots that fit the theme. In fact this might be the only one! Taken 6 years ago one late March afternoon during the golden hour. I had just gotten my Zenitar 16mm fisheye and was taking it out for a spin on my trusty old (but not so old then!) DS.
NaCl(the DS is long gone, but I'm hoping the "Z" will perform splendidly on the hopefully upcoming FF body)H2O
