I recently lost a K-3 to a thief that hit six cars in my neighborhood, so I was in the market for a new camera. I found a K-3 Premium Silver with the battery grip on Ebay, so I bought it. I've read that the specs for the K-3 and the K-3 Silver are identical, but I noticed my new Silver has split-image focus in the center if the viewfinder (I don't know the proper name for the feature). I don't remember my black k-3 having that. Am I wrong or are there other differences between the two cameras? I can't seem to find any good answers anywhere, even on the forums.

Got it off. Used a screwdriver to push on the teeth. Thanks for the help.

I'm having this same problem and I want to make sure I'm turning it the right way. On the side with the screen, the wheel should turn left. Is that correct?

I picked up a Sigma 170-500 F5.6 f6.3 for $350 on eBay. I've only had it a couple of months and haven't had the chance to really play, but the results of the limited shooting I have done with it are encouraging. at F6.3 it is limited, but at 500 mm, it really brings things in tight.

I'm one of those "local newspaper photographers," and I try to look around when I know I'm in front of the crowd and could be in the way. I'll also try not to stay in one spot for more than a few seconds so if I am in someone's way, I'm not there for long. I've shot parades for years and It is my job to get the right shot for the newspaper, but its not my job to prevent parents and others from getting their shot. She was rude and she should have apologized.

I have the Pentax 10-17 mm zoom lens and I want to try some wide field shots of the sky, especially during meteor showers. However, focusing on the stars is a royal pain, especially with this lens because the stars aren't bright enough to see to manually focus. I'll end up shooting an exposure and blowing it up to see if I'm close, then adjusting. But I can't tell which direction to turn the wheel from the photo, just whether or not it's in focus. You can't just spin the lens around to the stop on the infinity side because the stars are out of focus. In focus is somewhere before you get around to the stop. Is there a secret? Someone said use live view, but the live view is so bright, you can't see the stars. What's the secret to focusing any lens on stars? I've been trying for years and haven't figured it out.

Yes, I was limited to shorter exposures because of the ambient light on the water tower. I didn't want to blow out the scene, so I went with low ISO 200 and a narrower aperture, F9 to F10, than I normally go with. I was still limited to six seconds before I started blowing out the water tower. If I'm out in a rural area where I don't have these lights, I'll open the shutter for 20 seconds or more depending on the frequency of the lightning.

I haven't had too many opportunities to photograph lightning this year. But two opportunities presented themselves in the past month and a half. I shot these on Nov. 16, 2015. Carthage High School is home of the Tigers, hence the water tower that says Tigers.

Another question. Can the battery be charged through the k50 camera with the right cable?

From what I'm reading, the K50 uses the D-LI109 battery and the K5II and K3 use the D-LI190 battery. Physically, they look similar. I still haven't figured out if the chargers are compatible. They come with different chargers.

I have a young friend I'm helping get into photography. Her family bought her (I guess) a used Pentax k50. I'm a lifelong pentaxian and I have a K20d that I've used for four years, then I skipped right over the K50 to the K5II and the K3 in the past year. When her family bought the K50, apparently it didn't come with a battery charger. I don't know why. The K5II and K3 use the same battery and charger. Will that charger charge the battery that the K50 uses, which is apparently slightly different? Will the K20d charger work?

I fell for the Adorama special. I just bought the K5IIs in February, then had to send it to the shop. While it was at Precision Camera earlier this month, I pushed the button on the adorama deal. Now my camera pair is the K-3 and K-5IIs when less than a year ago it was the K20D and a Kx. Now I just need to find some time to go play.

They got it to me when I needed it. Big ups Adorama. I'm a new K3 owner and looking forward to playing.

They're closed until Wednesday Oct. 7 according to their phone message. I'm pretty sure the new camera world has it out for me personally.

I agree with Adam, I think you'll have trouble using one camera to edit a photo taken with another camera.

I hadn't thought of video because I don't shoot a lot of video with my cameras. That's a great point. Thank you

I was talking to a photographer friend about the Startracker feature on the K-5IIs and he asked if I was worried about burning out the sensor with very long exposure pictures. I hadn't thought of that as a problem.
I'm in Missouri, we can have warm nights in the summer. I frequently go out at night to shoot thunderstorms, meteor showers or comets when they are in the sky. Those photos are typically between 10 and 30 seconds each and I know air temperature can contribute to hot pixels under those conditions. I know that cameras like the Orion line for telescopes have coolers on them to cool the sensor.
So is there a danger of causing some kind of damage, permanent or temporary by using startracker on the different Pentax cameras that have the capability?

I hope you guys are wrong. I just sent a K5IIs to Precision. The camera stopped working suddenly on me twice in two weeks. Acted like it was jammed or something, it was trying to do something when I pushed the shutter button, but wouldn't shoot.

I've been using Pentax since I learned on a K-1000 and I've had great results. I'm a reporter and photographer for The Carthage Press in Carthage, Mo., which gives me a neat outlet for my photography. Lightning is my passion and living in Tornado Alley is definitely an advantage there. I'm looking forward to reading the information on this forum.
