Not going to contradict your remark, but I am from the Netherlands which is a long way from the southern hemisphere. That said, I spent a lot of time in Tunisia (at the coast where our beach house was) and did not have real seasons there. It was a bit between hot and not hot with a very occasional rain shower in late autumn or winter. We did have 25° Celsius (77°F) at Christmas though which is really comfortable.

Not a transition from winter to summer in this photo but one from summer to autumn. The shot was taken in the morning late in september. I used the K3 mark III combined with the Irix 150mm f2.8 macro in all natural light. I really like these transitional period when you get the “not so perfect” photos which in my opinion are perfect.

This challenge is somewhat outside of what I normally do. People is not really my forte, but as the challenge was open to interpretation I do have a photo that qualifies. It is an ice statue a couple of winters ago in a musical themed exhibition.

Well, I get lucky here as I exclusively use macro lenses at the moment. I have a Irix 150mm f2.8 macro or better said, two of these as I hate changing lenses for some reason and the other macro lens is the world famous SMC Pentax-A* 200mm F4 macro ED.
The below photo is taken with the 200mm and is a Tiger Cranefly. These look scary but are only about 18mm big and not harmful as they do not bite or sting.
The photo is taken fully manual obviously and with only natural light. The insect was sitting on my Hydrangea and it was pure luck I saw it in the corner of my eye when coming back from my daily “walks”.

If that ever happens, I will “finish” my other hobby which is Islay whiskey and to be specific Laphroig. I have a couple of collectible bottle hidden away and if I empty them an apocalyptic event would not bother me much anymore I guess. But let’s keep it positive so I can keep collecting them and we all keep our feet dry.

Scotland is still on my bucket list by the way although I doubt if I ever get there due to health reasons and accessibility issue as I use a set of fancy wheels to get around.

To be honest :), I actually live in the “Flevopolder” which used to be the bottom of the sea and I always say that if the sea levels rise I keep mug feet dry the longest as we have dikes an very good pumps to keep the water on the proper side of said dikes. Obviously that excludes Scotland as you live well above sea level (I assume)

Man o man, you send me on a wild goosechase for this one. I was convinced I had a photo of rain in Tunesia which is reasonably rare, especially in summer but I was not able to find it. It might have been a non-Pentax photo that I took. So I had to go another route and as you requested rain, the heavier the better I came up with this interpretation with the aftermath of rain (even though it was still raining when I took this photo). It’s not necessarily heavy rainfall, but for this little fellow it’s probably extremely heavy.
I hope this qualifies, if not, just let me know.

Thanks. Soft focus with that lens is not really difficult though :). Focus is really hard, especially when it’s windy outside. Also you only have shutterspeed and ISO to play with and in the days I used the lens, I basically had focus fixed which only leaves shutterspeed. The f stop is fixed.

A lifetime ago I bought a Walimex 500mm f6.3 mirror lens for fun and to try something relatively long. It is ot really a stellar lens in sharpness or probably any other metric (other than being cheap that is) but it still has something special in my opinion.

As a final note to this discussion as I am not getting anywhere with Silkypix, I changed my workflow to ACDsee for Mac and I have to say, so far I like it. It does some (minor) cataloguing but that is entirely based upon your own directory structure which I prefer. When you choose a specific directory it will simply add the photos in there. The editing itself is easy and intuitive enough to use it straight out of the box (even if it’s a download :) ). There are also versions for windows machines that have their own raw engine but the Mac version uses the “build in” Apple engine. Oh, and it’s very light on AI which I prefer.

Well, you all delivered on this one and the variety of all the photos surprised me pleasantly. Everyone had their own interpretation and that is something I like. It makes judging a bit harder obviously but that is a problem I created myself. So over to the judging.

Jacamar - The raven speaks - This is probably one of the best if not the best raven shot I have seen. No question who is the main character here. I like the dark bird full of details against the soft background. I also like the look on the bird and I can almost hear the scream in the photo.

Kerrowdown - Nightmare mode - no question here about the extra. Even though I see a head, I am not entirely sure what I am looking at. The head looks like it’s build up from wood and therefore would be a statue, but that might be my impression. A really artistic shot that you should frame for Halloween, although you might be left with all the candy at the end of the evening.

Ramseybuckey - Two young ladies - this one had me looking two times. When I saw the photo I wondered how someone could be that flexible but after looking more closely there are two flexible people. The grin on the young ladies face is enough extra in itself and to be honest you got yourself a couple of great models.

Atupdate - Thinking man - that indeed is a man thinking, one can only wonder what he is thinking about. Probably about the question about live, the universe and everything. No idea if he coms up with the proper answer though this is a really great catch and assuming it’s taken in a zoo, I bet they would want that photo as it would be a great one in their newsletter or calendar or something like that.

Pacerr - A two-fer - well knowing dogs a little bit I bet they are watching the hunting grounds outside the window, maybe waiting for a bit of sunshine. I really this photo as you put both of the in there as the main character. Even partners in crime one could or might say.

Hattifnatt - Self portrait with extra cat - this is a really striking photo, at first I thought you got an Arabic person with turban and a cat but after looking again, that is obviously not the case. I like the dark tones in this photo a lot as I myself tend to gravitate towards the darker side of things in photos. I do have to disagree with you on the title though, as this most certainly is “a cat with extra photographer”. And some final words from the famous @purr.in.ink after seeing the naughty kitty : “I am ready to love you intensely …… with my teeth”

Noelcmn - A lot of extra - o wow, that is indeed a lot of extra. A great photo accentuating a very likely very bright person(ality). I like how the colors in the background even though they are blurred and more muted are in line with the curly hair. My guess is this is some kind of event and might have more bright haired people, but this sunny girl obviously did not go unnoticed as you took the photo.

Yaki - Headshot with hat - that is a great headshot or should I say hatshot. I love the brightness in the photo and the casualness of the young lady on a, judging from the elaborate dress, an important day. The mirror completes the image in my opinion as it avoids the dark background to be to present. Now the background contrasts the model and the mirror duplicates that. Obviously, the flowers on the hat are a nice detail in the whole setting.

1. Hattifnatt as I like the tones and do love cats.
2. Atupdate for the unique moment you captured.
3. Jacamar for the fantastic raven.

HM to Kerrowdown as I still don’t know what I am looking at, Pacerr for bringing dogs into the game, Ramseybuckeye for all the flexibility, Noelcmn for brightening my day and Yaki for bringing the hat to the party.
