AWB with sunset light

Thanks for the responses! I see it is a matter of taste and context, seeing that the responses go both ways (keep vs. modify). By the way, I used Auto WB and then changed in PP. Multi Auto AWB is an option that should be explored, I guess. I confess that I have never used it.

Hello. I have been wondering, how do you manage the lightning conditions, on pictures taken during sunset, when all goes to orange. Do you correct the WB, or keep the natural light? I have two pictures here, one keeps the original light, the other is corrected. Which one would you keep/prefer? or is it just a matter of personal taste?
(By the way, one of the girls if my girlfriend, so mind your comments! :D) Thanks in advance!

I have it, with a K-50 just like you. I bought an used one from an Ebay japanese vendor. I'm not a pro by a long shot by I think I get great shots with it. I can share my Flick with my last vacations if you want. I think it's a great value for the price. Sheers!

kwackersnapper, may be, I open the PDF with Preview in my Mac, I read the page number from that. My bad. But, using the page number from the manual, go to page 66, and then go to page 72.

RAW/FX by default only allows to change the output format fort your next pics (RAW to Jpeg or viceversa), or may be customised to other functions (under Menu Option 4, Button Customisation), but none of those functions includes saving the RAW.

Hope it helps!

kwackersnapper, I do not understand what is the problem. I have a K-50 too, and according to the manual, the EC button "Saves the RAW image (only when the data is available)." during Instant Review (p.68 and 74). So, you are describing a feature, not a bug :-)

drypenn, flashes are not allowed. It would be very distracting to the competitors. At most may be used during medal presentations at the end of each category final combat. Greetings!

UncleVanya, I used shutter priority at 1/500s. Slower speeds gave me some blurring. With this, the camera set ISO at 6200-6400. (Sure you don't see the "show EXIF" link below the picture on Flickr?). I really appreciate your inputs.

LOL You really made my day with this! But I could not find that lens for Pentax mount.

yeah, I checked this, terrific lens it seems, but I also read too many reports about auto-focus motor failures. I live in Chile, Pentax is not a common brand over here, so I am on my own :)

MattB, the head was cropped by accident, the guy jumped at the last minute. Pure bad luck, I shot continuous and stopped right at that moment. The previous shots on the sequence show an awkward leg position during the kick, so I kept this. Lesson for me : a little less zoom next time.
The shot is cropped on both sides, btw.[COLOR="Silver"]

Condor, I used a Pentax DA 50/1.8 prime for a couple of shots, they are too wide IMHO. Beautiful shoots of the gym, noise is non-existent at 1.8, 2.0 and 2.2 (trials I made), but the combat shots look too small. Seating areas are about 1.8 meters above floor level, at least on this particular venue.

Greetings!

MattB, thanks for that. I do have a 50/1.8, I used for a couple of wide shots. I do prefer closer shots. Yo can see a couple of examples on https://www.flickr.com/photos/erobles/sets/72157651632854230/, to see what I'm looking for. Access to the floor on these competitions is very restricted, so I have to shoot from the seating areas.

Dan, according to the EXIF data, with the 55-300lens, focal lengths are between 62 and 88 mm.

Hello. I'm relatively new to DSLR photography. Until last year, I used a Nikon P100 super zoom on my son's karate competitions. Now I use a Pentax k-50 with kit lenses (18-55 f3.5 and 55-300 f4), and it's obvious I need a faster lens. I have been checking several options, but I look for something on a budget. Which one would be better between these?

Tamron 70-200 f/2.8 Tamron 70-200mm f/2.8 Di LD (IF) Macro AF Lens AF001P-700 B&H)
Sigma 17-70mm f/2.8-4 (Sigma 17-70mm f/2.8-4 DC Macro HSM Lens for Pentax 884109 B&H)
Tamron AF 28-75mm f/2.8 (Tamron 28-75mm f/2.8 XR Di Autofocus Lens for Pentax AF)
Any other recomendation?

Typical distance to the action is 4 to 10 meters, light conditions are a mix of daylight and fluorescent.

Thanks!

Thanks for your reply, Wojetek. I did shoot in RAW. I used JPEG only during the test shoots, to determine the best WB setting on my camera. My knowledge of photo software is very basic, I am beginning to learn (Gimp, even MAC Photos in my case, no LR yet). Light conditions were a mix of daylight and fluorescent, obviously daylight diminished later in the day. Unfortunately I was not allowed access to the floor, it is very restricted. Seating area is elevated, about 1.8 mts from the floor. I see your point about the background, it is something to practice for someone used to take just landscapes during family vacations :-)
I definitely need a faster lens. My faster lens is a DA 50mm/1.8, not fit for this. I am saving one penny at a time. Being a family man with two kids about to enter college, I am on a budget. I am trying to decide between a Tamron 70/200 f/2.8 and a a Sigma 17-70/2.8 Contemporary. Any suggestion is welcome. Thanks again!

Hi all. Last saturday for the first time, I tried my luck on indoor sports, with my son's karate competition. Until last year season, I used a Nikon super zoom to capture his combats on video, he uses them to study his technique. Now I was also able to take pictures. After *lots* of trials during the day, I settled on shutter priority, 1/500s, AWB Fluorescent Daylight White, Center Weighted Metering. BBF at all times, with AF.C.
Camera is Pentax K-50, smc Pentax DA L 50-300 4-5.6 (kit). Floor access is very restricted so I had to stay on seats area. I cropped, sharpened a little and managed noise with RawTherapee.
This was taken while he was warming up. ISO 6400 and f/4 were both calculated by the camera, focal is 88mm. There are more combat pictures in https://www.flickr.com/photos/erobles/sets/72157651632854230/
If I learned one thing, I really need a faster lens, I think noise is the main problem during pixel peeping.
Please leave your comments, I really want to improve this, there are lots of competitions during the year in similar conditions. I am an absolute beginner, this is my first DSLR, and loving it.
