There's a another factor: The MX-1 can be had for 300 bucks max, the LX100 costs more than twice as much. In about 2 years the Lumix will be at the same price and you could have invested the money you lost in a fine lens for an interchangeable lens camera. I got the MX-1 only because a) it's my first digital camera (coming from film) and I wanted to learn on something affordable b) The lens alone is so quality I really only need to buy a macro lens later on when I really feel it must be on my dslr instead of "in the MX-1s body". d) Simple math, long term: Lets say an investment on a compact camera always retains 50 bucks. The maximum loss with the MX-1 is 250 bucks. With the LX100 it's 650. That's a 400 bucks difference minimum. And not just at your initial investment, that investment is gone forever (unless you sell the LX100 earlier than people are selling their MX-1 now - chances are you won't sell the LX100 that early, because (this is were the mind will trick you - you invested so much).

I haven't ordered as I only just ordered the MX-01.
Perhaps I'll still do. Amazon is obliged to send me what's in the description, so... ;)

I just ordered my mx-1 for just 220 bucks.
Found used camera store also were I could have gotten myself a Pentax K II with that 18-130mm WR lens,
but I passed. 850 bucks would have been a great deal but I think I want the K-3 rather and wait for lower price
till the Pentax Full Frame hits the market.
In the meantime I will alternate between the MX and my analogue SLR.
Who would have thought I downgrade to a compact? Eager to make the experience :)

Yes, read about, thanks. Also watched a lot of sample videos. Pentax' image quality is so outstanding, it's a shame they don't capture movement that well. I'm hoping the K-S2 will be better finally, we will see.
The Pentax (whichever) will be my first dslr, still shooting on Canon Elan 7e.

Hello from Germany, Pentaxians, I'm new here :)
I have no Pentax DSLR yet so I did a lot of research:
'Lovely little Pentax MX-1 - regarding shutter speed - is only rivaled by the Pentax K-3 (both 1/8000s).
and the number focus points are only surpassed again by the K-3 (25 vs 27).
I compared all Pentaxes, all of the, and the MX-1 is the only one coming close to K-3 in those regards,
isn't that insane? :D
I think I need one. It's also the cheapest fast macro "on" a digital Pentax I'll ever get!!!* :D
