Need to add black to make the picture more realistic ?

It is the 70-200 f2.8 EPO Ex, first gen I think...

Fixing it in PP, doesn't interesting me much... I'd like to know if it can be repaired, even when my lens is out of warranty, I wonder how much it can cost.

It's stange also, because I did some research and this behavior is not common with this lens...

yes i use the lens hood, i don't really know why because there was no sun, the cloud was covering the sky completely...

Is the contrast problem is within the lens or the camera ? It is not the first time i see this problem, inside picture looks good, only picture taken outside had this problem.

I did another test in Lightroom, i've increased the Contrast by 100 (maximum value of the slide) and i have similar result like the black (maybe better...)

If it is a contrast problem within the lens, is there any way to test it ?

Hi,

I have this Sigma lens that is trouble me a little bit under outside picture.

I were on a park yesterday, and i just looked at my pictures and they seem all fades?

Here's an example, the before and after... The after add +34 on the black side of Lightroom:

here a 1:1 crop:

What can be the problem of this lens ? I shoot raw, but i'd like not to add that amount of black to each pictures...

thanks!

New-York trip: what shot do you take ? what's the best spot?

Hi guys,

Sorry, i was a bit buzy since my return from N-Y :)

Overall, i didn't have time to see all that i wanted to see, my schedule was for 2 weeks, not for 4 days :) Also when i went there, i was pretty sick, so i had to cut some visit...

I did the Helicopter trip. The sky was dark, it was raining earlier, so the color is very dark! I also forgot to remove the polarized filter that i added because of the glass. But i didn't know that we can open the little window to shoot ! Also, since we weren't able to bring any bag, i had to keep only my 70-200mm, so i had to make a choice... I regret this a bit, since i had a 16-50mm too but the result is okay. Next time, i'll know :)

I had my GPS logger with me, so all picture were syncronized at home after that, so we can see where i am exactly, pretty cool!

Some of my photos are here:
Best OF New York 2010 - a set on Flickr

So, here's what i was able to do, with my friends:
day 1:
arrival at 3pm, checked the room, pretty nice hotel i might add... After that we lunch (can't remember where), we went to a very nice Beer garden who server sausage on bbq, cool stuff, we drink a lot there... and then we went to Times Sqares and one last beer in a Irish pub near by. -No picture at all that day! But it was past midnight and Times Sqares was still fully loaded !!!

day 2:
Visited Central park, the Library, Grand Central, little visit into chinatown, walk on the Brooklin Bridge, we missed the sunset to take pictures of both Bridge, but pictures are cool. So a lot of walk that day !!

day3:
My Helicopter ride (140$ + 20$ fee) on the morning, Wall Street, walked in Brooklin Height (it was realy nice there), we visited also the USS Intrepid

day4:
no picture, we left.

So i liked was: Central park (i didn't visit the south end last time), walk on the brooklin bridge, pictures of bridges (we missed the sunset)...

I should have studied the map from the subway, it took me around 2 days to fully understand it ! Montreal is a lot easier :)

About the food, 2 of my friends felt very bad after the breakfast, so we didn't go to any other dinner after that :) We ate some good sushi (my god the sushi are HUGE at the Big Apple!!!), a nice chinese place, and a pretty good italian food on the day #3.

So i miss a lot of stuff, oh.. the Fountain at Central park was closed too.. but i liked the trip. I have to go back there sometime, and do more walk by myself, alone during the day, and see the friends for lunch? maybe... will see :)

Thanks to all of you for your ideas, maybe it will help someone...

See you around :)

Sensei,

Reset didn't work for me either :(

Any other idea? Is this problem affect the SR function or only the Live View ? If it only a live view problem, i won't sent it to repair...

thanks!

Hi Seisei,

I did that test like you asked and I did not see it move

But I put another lens, a sigma 70-200 epo. It did the same thing but if I turn off the SR, it stop shaking!!! I also found that when it shake, it shake a lot less than my Pentax 16-50 da*. On the 16-50 it shake like crazy with or without SR.

Hi,

I wanted to try the live view for the first time since i had my k20d... It was the sunset so i turned on the live view using the Preview button.

But a weird thing happen, when it's on live view, the screen shake a lot and make a lot of noise, like when the dust cleaner when i open the camera but...forever!

I just tried it on a table, and same thing, i was on a tripod yesterday...

Any idea what is going on? Or should i activate the live view differently ?

thank you !

I might agree with you a little bit. I just finished this book.

Yes it give us good tricks. But it doesn't explain much about light. Also i found the quality of the picture to be a lot grainy! His wife look good tough ;)

I might try the "The Photographer's Eye: Composition and Design for Better Digital Photos" by Michael Freeman, because Composition is my weak spot :)

I like another book about flash...

Are you also shooting raw ONLY?

I shoot RAW only too, and since 3 years ago, and never looked back.

Yes it is slower to put picture online, but when it is online, it is the final copy! I like the post-processing :)

I agree about the disk space. I have the K20D and the JPEG 4 stars are almost as big as the RAW. So why bother... Hard drive are so cheap now, it will take a while before i fill mine up.

I do the same... I post-process my RAW only after selecting those i really wants. So let's say i shoot 700 pictures, i will rate them from 1 to 3 in Lightroom. Then take the 3 stars and then upgrade them to 4-5 or lower... After that, i will post-process only the good one 4-5 stars... So maybe about 100 ?

I agree with you! It force me to delete my .PEF that i really don't need to save my space, because if i'd shoot in jpeg, i'll keep them all, even if i know that i will never use them ;)

Some pharmacy will do the picture for you, and will garantee that the picture will be fine or they take another free of charge...

And don't forget to sign your passport or the guy/girl at the border will be unhappy ;)

New York trip- what to take?

It would be helpful to know your budget...

I personally had the 18-55. The quality is very basic, not very good for night shot you'll probably do. I would recommand the 16-45 f4 or the 16-50 f2.8 witch I have (good copy). You already have a zoom why buying another one... The is also a 17-70 sigma or tamron that you should check.

I am going to NYC too, and I will bring: 16-50 f2.8, 50mm f1.4, and my tamron 70-300. Also I will have a cpl for my 16-50 in case I need to shoot behind a windows (helicopter)...

About the bag, I was looking at the lowe pro 202 sling bag but today I found the tenba small sling bag witch is better I think...usually I use the crumpler 5 millions dollars but I need to transport the monopod or a small tripod with me, so that why the sling bag comme in to use

hope that help :)

I don't know if I'll bring my external flash yet...

Yes, i have to plan my time carefully. I think i'll use google map for that. You can create some maps and then put some mark.

So i am planning to use this post as a reference, and map all of your ideas there, so i can see where are i'll be, and then, plan my time around that. I will be on foot, so i'll visit the metro a lot, or, walk a lot ;)

I Hope it's a good idea ?

I'll post them when i return, at the end of may, i am going for 4 days...

Those picture from your friend are good ideas ! Also, i did put where he took them exactly, perfect ! thanks for sharing :)
