Hello,
My LR CC doesn't recognize FA 20-35 f4 that I recently bought. It shows it as a Pentax "wide angle". Does anybody know where I can find the proper profile?
Thanks.

Adam, thank you for your help. You were absolutely right. It was preset for distortion correction and I don't remember setting this function. As soon as I reset it, the problem was gone. If it was not fixed, I would have lost half of the shots I took today in Venice during the water taxi ride down the Grand Canal. I had to do the rapid shooting and I did. Got a lot of good shots.

trying to find a good but not too expensive hand strap for my k-1

I use Cotton Carrier hand strap (paid $15) for several years. Used on K-5, K-3 and now on K-1. It is very comfortable. I walked for about 7 hours in Venice yesterday using this strap on K-1 with DFA 28-105 attached and it was totally fine. I prefer it to a neck strap.

Hello, I wonder if someone is familiar with my problem. My K-1 just returned from warranty repair (had its mirror stuck in up position). Everything is fine, except it developed some peculiar problem. It takes about 4 seconds to write the image to SD card. I am using the same card (90 Mb/sec write speed) where there was zero delay before. It even takes few seconds now to delete the image. Any ideas?

My six months old K-1 with 5000 clicks has been in repairs for 4 weeks now. Canadian warranty repair shop was unable to fix it and shipped it to Japan. Stuck mirror, would not drop back. I had numerous film and digital Pentax cameras in a span of 34 years and none ever failed. Luckily, I have my K-3 as a backup. I might be forced to leave for European cruise on November 7 without my K-1. To say I am mad is a mild understatement.

Thank you, Adam for quick reply. Unfortunately, I am in Canada and can't use Precision. I need to find Canadian warranty repair facility.

Hi all,
I never thought I would ever create a post like this. My five months old K-1 with 5280 actuations just quit on me. In the last 34 years I had seven Pentax cameras, both film and digital, and none of them ever broke hence I am pentaxian for life. I guess it's always a first time for everything.
Here are the symptoms. In a last couple of months K-1 would occasionally produce a completely black image. Once I checked the camera/lens interface and found a small hair so I assumed this was a problem. Recently I upgraded the firmware to the latest release. I got a few black images again in the last couple of days and today it happened again. However, this time it failed permanently and would not recover. When I look into viewfinder it is black and pressing the shutter release button makes no action. I removed the lens and found that the mirror is permanently up and the shutter curtain is down. I tried to pull the mirror down with my fingernail and after few attempts it stayed in a down position. Put a lens back, took couple of pictures and it's back to square one. Interestingly, the Live View is working perfectly. I re-installed the firmware but, as I expected, it didn't help. It must be mechanical failure. This is really a bad timing as I will be travelling in Europe in mid-November and I so hoped to use K-1 and bring a lots of images back. I am devastated. Luckily, it failed now and not while I am in Europe. I also still have my K-3 as a spare.
If you have any ideas about the cause of this failure, please help.
Thank you.

Wide angle lens

I just bought this lens and it works very well on K-1. It's pretty sharp, with excellent colors and contrast. Almost no CA or flare even when shot directly into the sun. The fish eye distortions can indeed be corrected in LR CC using this lens' profile. However, the best results for corrected images are achieved when it's a landscape shot with lots of open space. It sometimes does not even require correction for this type of images. When image contains near walls like interior shots, the corrected image might look a bit weird. I think for interior shots it's better to leave image as is and not to correct it.

Full Frame Wide Angle Lens List--20mm and Under

I just bought used Sigma 15mm 2.8 DG EX. It's diagonal full frame fish eye and works perfectly on my K-1. By applying this lens's profile in Lightroom CC, the fish eye effect can be completely eliminated. This is currently manufactured lens available new in many mounts at USD$609. It has excellent reviews in many forums. I shot two dozen images yesterday, ran them through LR CC and I love the results.

That's a series of shots of solar eclipse taken from my porch this morning. Unfortunately, we in Vancouver could see only 80% of it. The next time it will happen here will be in 700 years, maybe I will be lucky to catch all 100% :)
The shot #2 is the max eclipse that happen at 10:23AM.
The time span between the shot #1 and #5 was 21 minutes.
K-1 with D FA 28-105 at f/13-f/16 1/8000 sec with ND 400 filter. Heavily cropped, since I had the ND filter only in 62mm size and couldn't use my 300mm lens.

Anyone tried the Sigma 10-20mm f/4.5-5.6 + HD 1.4x Converter on K-1?

You are wrong. I took many shots with Sigma 10-20 with Tamron AF 1.4x mounted on K-1 and it produces a full FF image - 46Mb, 7360 x 4912 Pixels (36.15 MPixels) with zero vignetting. I tried the same with HD DA 15mm Limited and it works perfect, no vignetting.

K-1 and Metz 58-2 in fill flash mode?

Hello, I wonder what is the preferred way to use this flash as a fill-in in a situations like illuminating a backlit face of the person outdoors? There are 23 ways to manipulate the exposure: a) to reduce flash output to -2EV in the flash itself, b) set up flash output in camera's menu to -2EV and c) set K-1 exposure compensation to -3EV, but which one is the best to produce the desired result? Both flash and K-1 have the latest firmware installed. Thanks.

Lens performance on my K-1

I spent couple of days experimenting with my lenses after I bought K-1 and here are my conclusions. DA*16-50 and 50-135 clearly didn't work and the photo store agreed to take them as a partial trade on K-1 few days after I brought the camera. HD 35mm macro Limited works well after I removed filter and stopped pulling out its hood. 70mm limited and DA 50mm 1.8 work well. 15mm limited and Sigma 10-20 work when used mounted on my Tamron 1.4 AF teleconventer. Pentax HD DA 55-300 (not PLM) works well. All my other full frame AF and manual lenses clearly work. Two weeks ago I bought DFA 28-105 which is an excellent lens and I am all set and happy with my K-1 system. I kept K-3 as a second body and sold K-5.

Guys, I am so happy I found this post here. I just tried my Sigma 10-20 F4-5.6 DC with my Tamron 1.4x Pz-AF MC4 teleconverter and it works beautifully! Not a sign of vignetting. Then I made another experiment. I placed my DA 15mm F4 Ltd. on this teleconverter and it works too. Now I don't need to but another wide angle and my K-1 is now complete. I have these two lenses for wide angle shots, then DFA 28-105 ED WR as everyday and travel lens and also HD DA 55-300 ED WR for tele shots. My other 3 primes that work very well on K-1 are HD DA 35 macro Ltd, HD DA 70 Ltd. and DA 50mm 1.8. I am all set and very happy.

K1 lens compatibility

I confirm that HD DA 35MM F2.8 Limited and HD DA 55-300 ED WR are usable in ff mode. They may produce slight vignetting in certain situations but this is easily fixable in LR or PS.

Excellent image. I bought DFA 28-105 yesterday and I wholeheartedly agree with your assessment of this lens. I have a film era version of this lens (FA
power zoom) but they are not comparable.

Thanks. I discovered that vignetting produced by 35mm LTD is greatly reduced by removing the filter and not extending the hood. Whatever is left can be easily fixed in LR or PS.
