My new K200D with Pentax 18-250mm

Thanks for your comments. The barn shot was taken on my grandmother's ranch in Touchet Washington. It was hand held with no polarizing filter. I took the first photo in a normal standing position, then I took a second photo (this one) when I was kneeling down. This one with the lower perspective was much better.

I received my new Pentax K200D with kit lens and the Pentax 18-250mm lens. This is my first dslr, moving up from a Canon S2IS point and shoot. Lots to learn with this camera but I'm impressed with the difference in image quality, it's like I'm in this whole new world.

Below are some of my first shots with the K200D and the 18-250mm lens. Not the best but as I'm playing around learning I didn't think these came out too bad.

Congrats. I just got my K200D two days ago and am having a blast with it, what a difference from my old point and shoot. I also got the 18-250mm (and other accessories) and very happy. Colors and sharpness are better than what I was expecting.

Question about backward compatability & other non-Pentax lenses

I've been reading this board for about a month now but am new to the Pentax world. I just ordered my K200D with a couple lenses and lots of accessories a few days ago, should be delivered soon. I've really enjoyed the info here but there is one thing that I still find confusing.

There is a lot of references to older Pentax lenses and even third party lenses such as Takumar, Vivitar, Sears and so on. When I'm looking at used lenses how do I know if a particular lens will work with my K200D? Will all older Pentax lenses work and would I need adapters?

Here's an example. I saw a 50mm Asahi Super-Takumar, a 28mm auto Lentar, a 200mm Accura Supertel and a Lentar 2x converter for sale, all had been used on an older Pentax 35mm film camera. How would I know if these will work on my new camera?

Are there good internet sites that explain about lens compatibility from different third party manufacturers and any adapters that may or may not be required?

Thanks everyone,

Damon

Why did you choose the k200 over the competition (e.g., Canon XSI)??

I just ordered a new K200D with kit lens, the Pentax 18-250mm lens, Raynox 150 &250 and a bunch of other accessories yesterday, can't wait to pick them up when I get back to the states next week!

I had looked at the offerings from Nikon and Sony and didn't see a dslr that I liked for one reason or another. The only other cameras that I had considered was the Canon XSi and the Pentax 20D. The 20D was too expensive for me, probably more camera than I needed as well (the K200D will be my first dslr). I liked the reviews and features of the Canon XSi but in the end the K200D became my choice due to price (and rebate), I liked the top lcd, availability of lenses, dedicated raw button, and what many of the reviews had to say about image quality and build quality.

I live on a sailboat and sail around the Western Caribbean so having a weather resistant camera was a definite plus. And even in some of the most remote places that I've visited so far it's still easy to find AA batteries (though I have lots of Eneloops). I'm sure I'll be happy with my new K200D, though it sure was a tough decision among all the choices out there.

When I was in Guatemala and in need of a new digital camera I found it much more economical to buy one online in the US and have it shipped to me in Guatemala. The high duties on electronics made buying a new camera (or anything other electronics) too expensive in Guatemala. FedEx, UPS and DHL have service in Guatemala but I had my camera delivered via the USPS and Guatemala's Postal service with no problems.
