Still needs some final touches, silver screws, ect. Thinking about doing the lens myself if I can match the paint.

I do the work myself, I was a camera repair tech in the early 80's.

Hey Chris,
I couldn’t resist it. Thanks for the post. My KX is very scratched up and is a great candidate for a face lift. I also ordered some brown leather from Hugo Studio. I’ll post pictures when I get it done.
Cheers, Gary

Very nice. Never seen that on the MX. I was given this Olympus by a friend in the biomed shop at one of the hospitals I service.

It's a bit rough, but everything works. I like that it's personalized.

Sorry I'm late to this discussion. Most likely the spring on the release slide has come off (parts A500 and A510). I repaired this exact problem several years ago. It's not an easy fix since the mirror box needs to be removed to gain access.

The galvanometer in the K1000 has 2 coils. If one of these coils opens, the needle will peg to one extreme or the other. This is a common problem and the only repair is to replace the galvanometer. It is possible that the speed or diaphragm resistor has opened up, but I've never seen that happen. Given the cost involved, you may be better off getting another body off ebay.
If it helps, here's a schematic for the K1000:

That's nice to know. Those stickers look like they come out of someone's label maker.

As you say, the top cover is not that hard to remove. The only "gotcha" is the left hand threads on the wind lever nuts. That said, it's a lot of work to remove prism to clean and or replace the screen. In the picture, you will see that the flex circuit must be removed and folded over to one side to reach the prism, also there are several wires coming up from the shutter. Several spots where you can get into trouble if you're not careful.
You might want to concentrate on your other body. For the "windshield wiper" problem, remove the lens and open the shutter on bulb and look for an obstruction, there is some felt inside the mirror box which could have come unglued. As far as the hot shoe goes, you may want to swap top covers with one of your other bodies.

From looking at the Mingca, it looks like my camera came out of the same factory.

Here's a view of the top. Also with top cover removed and a regular K1000 for reference.

Hi all, new guy here (sorry I've been lurking for a while).
I came across this camera that is mechanically identical to the K1000 except it has a self timer like the KM. The meter is different in that it has 3 LED's in the viewfinder, a green LED indicating good exposure and a red LED above and below showing + and -.
It came with a Helios 44-K-4 58mm lens. Any thoughts on where it was made and by whom?
