I'm thinking of ditching Adobe altogether and moving the majority of my editing over to Capture One (I shoot with several different camera brands). However, my 645z isn't supported by that particular piece of software. I don't do a ton of shooting with it, but I still need to edit some RAW files from time to time. Has anyone here come across a good Lightroom alternative?

As Adam stated, the product cycle is a bit longer in this format. Yes, there are some new sensors coming out (that 100MP Sony beast!), but I would be shocked if the 645z gets an update in the next two years. Heck, even if it does, that doesn't mean the camera will be obsolete. How many people do you know still shoot with Canon 5d Mk2's? If you're worried about the upgrade cycle, you'll never buy anything. I'd say buy the camera and start shooting. The files are unbelievable and you won't be disappointed.

Aside from eBay and the occasional lens popping up on here, anyone have any suggestions on where to find one?

Have you looked into eBay to stretch your lens dollar? I picked up most of my lenses from shops in Japan (all in great condition) for less than half (generally around a third) of what they would cost new. At this point I have the new 35 DFA (not and eBay purchase), an old 45 A, the 55 DFA, a 75 FA (seriously love that lens), a 105 A (picked up with the 45 on a lark from a small used camera shop), the 120 FA macro and the 80-160 FA that you're looking at. The 80-160 is my go to studio lens, but the 35 and 75 split time everywhere else.

The Paul Buff equipment is great. I own two B800's, one B400 and three of the Einsteins. If you can swing the price, I'd recommend going with the Einsteins and the Cybersync system. You can generally find them on Craigslist for around $400 each. Just being able to control all of the lights from the trigger is worth the extra expense (especially if you put any lights up high).

Actually, the 55mm lens (that came free as a promo) wasn't in stock so they just shipped it to me in the US. Perhaps they don't normally offer US shipping, but it wasn't a problem at the time and I didn't get stuck with any extra duty fees.

You can order online from most place (Yodobashi in Japan has a page dedicated to international orders to answer any questions), but I was traveling across Canada for the entire month. I just called ahead to the shop and asked them to hold one for me. There is an import tax, but it's not much

I picked up the DFA 35 a couple of weeks ago and couldn't be happier, but I look forward to hearing your thoughts after testing.

I actually bought my Z because the Canadian dollar was weak. I was in Calgary last Spring (when they were first running the free 55mm special) and saved about $2k USD versus buying it from B&H

Mid 2014 MacBook Pro. 2.5 GHz I7 processor with 16 GB or RAM and a 500GB SSD drive. Since I am nearly always traveling, I use several 2 TB Lacie drives for backups (and one that always stays at home). Overall I'm pretty happy with the rig (though a large 4k monitor would be nice), but since upgrading my camera rig to the Z (and getting a Sony A7RII for a backup camera) I have noticed a bit of lag when working with such large files. Hopefully the next gen of Macbook Pros will have a much larger memory capacity.

I went from a Canon setup to the Z and an A7rII rig and couldn't be happier. While I prefer to shoot with the Pentax, a lot of times it's just plain inconvenient to lug around (which is why I bought the Sony).

Sadly, I have never used the A, FA, or the zoom (other than testing it in a shop when I bought my Z), but I will say that I am completely 100% happy with the new 35 (zero buyers remorse). I'll try and get some shots posted in the next few days with it so people can pick things apart a bit.

I remember going up to that park when I first started shooting and just marveling at the array of camera gear up there every night; everything from tourists with cellphones to large format film setups. Nicely done with the pano.

I'd be interested in other's input as well. I have a Think Tank backpack that holds my 645 rig (as well as a few other goodies) when I travel, but it's been difficult to find a decent shoulder bag for walking around as most are designed for smaller DSLRs. I just need to carry the camera and perhaps three primes.

That looks like a pretty heavy drop in image quality to me. Far more than I would consider to be even remotely acceptable.

Just to be clear, the only time I every thought I was actually going to be mugged, I was in Canada. There are desperate people all over the world (not just in the US). Anyone who chooses to carry a firearm needs to be aware that just by possessing such an item any altercation becomes a life and death situation and that is not a responsibility that should be taken lightly. While it is something that I have considered (and will continue to consider), It's very rare that my work ever takes me into situations where I don't feel safe or at least in control of the environment.

I've had a gun flashed at me while on a shoot (I was assisting to an oblivious photographer), though I think that was more of a territorial issue than an a mugging attempt. I've also had a group of guys follow myself, another photographer, and a scantily clad model while out on a shoot (which we promptly wrapped up). But the first time I was out with my Z, I was walking through a questionable neighborhood (you had to walk through the ghetto to get to my nice hotel) and had a guy stop on the street and size me up while checking out my camera. He did this three times before making eye contact where I subtly let him know that an attempt would not end well for him. Since then, I've thought about getting a conceal/carry permit but I live in California and that is nearly impossible to do out here. I'm not a gun fan per se, but it's something to think about when you're regularly carrying $20k in gear around.
