It's not a great photo but it seems the all Ginko trees had all shed their leaves simultaneously and I just had to shoot.

Sigma 500mm 4.5 vs. FA* 300mm 2.8 with 1.5x TC

I have both the FA*300/2.8 and Sigma 500/4.5 and use both on the K-3 with (and without) 1.4x TCs. Also, on occasion, the AF 1.7x.
My take is that both are very sharp and deliver good results. On the downside, the FA* is somewhat prone to fringing while the Sigma bokeh can be a bit distracting in some situations.
My choice of which to use really comes down to portability: at my advanced age, the Sigma is a bit much to take on an extended hike.
I've gotten decent results (also crap) hand-holding both but of course, at these FLs, support is always a good idea.
I really can't speak to focus speed (it's just not something I have a feel for) except to say that the absence of a focus limiter on the Sigma is frustrating at times
Bottom line: If I were at a point where I needed to sell one, I'd keep the Sigma: it's about reach.

Actually Mel looks a lot younger in person than she does in that portrait.

Here's me, taken by my daughter (11 at the time) with a fresh-out-of-the-box K100D & Tamron 18-250mm.

We'll there was playing on the state champion lacrosse team in high school, and scoring a 65-yard touchdown (as a defensive tackle) in college but the real golden moments were on the water: a couple of nice brown trout in the Catskills, a braggin'-sized striper from the rocks at Montauk Point, a steelhead in Oregon and a 22" flyrod smallmouth bass on the Shenandoah.

There were storms in the area several days ago and I decided to play around with the HDR on my Olympus EM1 mark II in the twilight. After some experimental PP, I came up with this. I kinda like it--it has a Hudson River School feel.

This is probably the same mangy fox who was hanging around over the winter. He seems to be hanging in but I really want to give him a bath and take him to a vet.

The marquee bug of the moment around here, of course,is the Cicada (saw my first yesterday--which was quickly dispatched by a cardinal) but I was happy to see this caddisfly (because fishing! and also because, as a water quality indicator, it suggests that our stressed urban stream is holding it's own.)

Yep--good eye! It's fresh from the stream down in the valley.
Actually--although not an every day thing--it has happened before. Back in 2016, when the dead oak nearer the house was still standing and I was shooting with the FA*600/4, I got this.

Hmm, I think I'll revisit the pp (again ;)).

Some member of the household thought it would be a great idea to get Maggie a pool. I have reservations but Maggie clearly doesn't--she splashed around in it for nearly an hour.

Right--the vet had to double-check when we brought that litter in. She's fearless and the most socially outgoing cat I've ever encountered--the first (and really, only) of her litter to approach our dog, the late, gentle princess, Princess.

She also has a thing about plastic bags: I worry she'll end up at the recycling center.
