I agree, good images. I doubt that they are touched up at all. Most of the look of that portrait is coming from the lens anyway. My 20D could do that with that lens.... and that model!! get a model with skin like that and lighting like that and all you need is a camera phone. :D
Image quality hasn't really changed in long time. It's still about the lens.
I have a feeling Canon was going to release video regardless of what Nikon did. In fact I wouldn't be surprised if Nikon spied on Canon and decided to beat them to the punch. Only they didn't do it as well.
About the "pentax bashing" by people who don't shoot Pentax.... well I can't help but feel like those statements are directed at me. I shoot Canon DSLR and Pentax film and I'm curious about other camera brands ect so I hang out here from time to time to get a different perspective and when I see some people talk about Canon who may not have the actual facts or first hand experience, I like to chime in and give my two cents.

Looks like a great camera. 21mp but there are three different RAW sizes 21MP, 10MP, 5.2MP. The extra MP are there if you want them but you can easily use the lower resolution modes.
Video on a DSLR with a F1.4 prime.... ya that would be fantastic, and not easily replicated by a cheap video camera.
The high ISO image quality should be stellar and Canon's AF is extremely accurate and fast. Looks like a winner to me.

They are stupid looking but Canon's long L lenses are fantastic.... They used to make a 1200mm for about $125 000 but it's discontinued...
I rented a 300mm 2.8 IS once. A fantastic lens!

^^^^ very nice offer!^^^^
I shoot with a P30 and it does the job very well!
Don't worry about features!!!! especially on a MF film camera! When buying a digital body it's a little more important to shop around because of AF speed, the sensor's quality, and a number of other things but MF film cameras don't have auto focus motors to worry about. You don't have to worry about auto focus accuracy, you don't have to worry about things like high ISO ability because your film determines that along with your developing skill.
If I were you I would pick up a nice prime like the one suggested above the 55mm 1.8.

I love my camera!
personally like the idea of calling a small old school style camera "Limited". If the features are there and the style is right then it really doesn't matter what you call it but "Limited" has a nice ring to it, and it also congers up images of MF film cameras.

How does the name you place on something make it a novelty?

The fuji DSLR, S5 I think, is probably the best for IQ. It has the best DR at least. Saying the K20 has better IQ then the rest sounds like Pentax propaganda. For most users the IQ difference between brands is negligable when talking about the most recent cameras. Canon has had great IQ for years now. There really isn't much difference between a rebel XT and a 40D or even 5D for that matter (5D obviously has better noise control at high ISO). Generally if you want better IQ you get a better lens not a better body.

Pentax really should go after the old school photographer market. Make an affordable Leica M8 for the masses. I don't understand why Pentax would fight the losing battle of trying to keep up with Canon and Nikon and now I guess you could say Sony too.
Imagine a Pentax ME digital with a pancake lens. That I would be interested in even if I do have thousands invested in Canon.
For some occasions the bells and whistles of a full sized DSLR do help but if I'm going for a walk downtown with my wife I want something small like a MF film camera.

I don't think Canon is responding to Pentax directly, more like the market as a whole. They lost their grip on the top spot in the DSLR market and are trying to regain it. It's just going to force the manufacturers into a price/feature war that will benefit us, the consumer.
As it is now I don't think Pentax is really in the game. The biggest advantage to the Pentax system I see is that you can still use all your old school glass. Canon has a strangle hold on the entry level DSLRs when you look at feature/price comparisons. Nikon is top dog in the pro, semi-pro segment.

I disagree, I shoot concerts in dark clubs and even with the fastest primes I can get, I struggle to get SS fast enough to stop motion at ISO 3200. It also allows people who have slower lenses to shoot natural light and in lighting conditions they were never able to before.
Usable high ISO for me is the most important new feature. Way more so then live view, MP, FPS, etc.

You guys are forgetting ISO 12800! That is HUGE!
This is not a small upgrade, it's the biggest single upgrade since 10D-20D.
And native ISO 3200....

Pictures are really just an arrangement of light and shapes. If you can find the right balance and things work and all the elements come together then that is what makes an exceptional image. It doesn't really matter what the subject is as much as how you took it.
Taking pictures of exotic locations or scenes doesn't guarantee good photo.... but a so so image of something you've never seen before is better then a so so image of something you see every day.

Nice looking grain. Do these programs do anything to the dynamic range of a photo? I assume it just mimics the contrast and grain structure right?

You can't argue that some of the best images ever created were made with MF film cameras.
Henri Cartier-Bresson captured the most subtle expressions spontaneously with completely manual film cameras.
That all said I'm not going to rely on a MF film camera to capture a wedding HCB never had to get a shot.
Different tools for different jobs.

I bought mine from Henry's. I had a bunch of gift certificates and they also have the mail in rebate. Same price as Vistek too.
I've been happy with it so far but colour scans seem to have less pop then my B&W scans. It's probably more to do with my settings then the scanner though.

Very interesting stuff Ben, thanks. It seems there is a lot more to scanning then I originally thought!

I think it would look better in B&W and I only see 60 bucks two twentys and two tens.
Anyway, hope you had a fun night. :)

Here is what my local photo shop scan looks like right of the CD
And here is my scan of the same negative with no adjustments by me so I guess you could say it's right out of the scanner.
Looks better to me and I can do everything from developing to scanning right at home.
