I was fortunate enough to be involved in the beta testing process for the CS 4 Web Premium Suite. Having been a long time user of the previous Adobe Suites and the older Macromedia programs I welcomed the changes introduced to the programs and some of the added features.

You'll like it! Just in time for the weekend. Where I live it's forecast for rain for the next few days and I'm off. Play time with the K20D and PS CS 4.

Enjoy...

300mm Perspective

Well, I broke down, caved in, collapsed, fell victim to the inner voice. Who ever you want to describe it I picked up the DA* 300 f4. I'm thankful that it is weather sealed as I've spent the past 2 weeks dribbling on and over it.

I was humming and hawing for several weeks between the 300 and the mythical 60-250. I own the 50 - 135 2.8 and felt that owning the 60 - 250 would curtail my use of the other lens. With logic only a photographer could come up with I settled on the 300mm.

I have not been disappointed. Over the past 2 weeks I've shot early mornings over a pond, soccer matches, sunsets and moon sets. Anything that I could not get close to.

Attached are some of the many shots taken recently. Anyone thinking of this lens - go for it. You will not be disappointed. Also have to mention these are as shot. No cropping or Photoshop. I'm a "shoot to print" "raised on slide film" guy.

What was it like in the good old days?

"I remember in the good old days (when everyone had to walk 10 miles to school and vinyl ruled the music industry)..."

I started in photography back in the 70s with a K1000. I had that for some time and then moved up to the Super Program with the battery grip. I had that camera right up to trading it in for an ist D. At one point I owned the Super Program, PZ-1 and the Z1-P and a wide range of manual focus lenses from 28mm - 200mm.

The advantage of the good old days is any increase resolution came through advances in film technology and lens design. As a result "upgrades" were easy. Get you hands on the newest slide film and you were good to go. When looking at new models that came out there would have to have been some revolutionary new aspect to make me want to upgrade. Advances in camera design, for the most part, were evolutionary as opposed to revolutionary.

Now it seems camera bodies are as bad as computers. Every year something increases in either megahertz or megapixels.

Regardless of the "good old days" or the exciting new revival in photography we're going through, it is and always will be the vision of the person behind the camera that has the most influence. And that is something that is learned and not upgraded with each new model.

Good question. Be interesting to see some of the answers and opinions.

Chris.
