I've had both and trust me...they are not identical. Much better bokeh rendering from my copy of the F.

I kept my F50mm F1:1.4 because it is that good. I actually sold my 31mm and 77mm because they weren't as sharp and the bokeh on my older 50 was better. To each their own. Mind you, the F50mm is a difficult lens to find.

Haven't posted here in awhile. I'm a life long Pentax guy, and still have some great Pentax glass (and a K3 back in Carolina), but for the past year I've been using Fuji and am very, very happy after a few initial hiccups with some AF issues. That being said, I'm stoked to get my hands on the K1 when I get back stateside the end of this month. Here's a few from my Fuji X-E2 and the XF 18-55mm of late. I'm hoping the K1 will provide similar results and even better in low light. Don

Yes, he's the best, IMHO. I haven't used him for Essentials, but LR and PS he is unparalleled.

I concur, I'm a Fuji and Pentax shooter and if it were me I'd wait until I saw what comes down the pipe. You have excellent Fuji glass and I don't know if you'll find any improved performance with any APSC from Pentax. I love what my Fuji JPegs give me in B/W settings. I can't duplicate those images with my K3 and any of my stellar Pentax and Sigma lenses. I wish I could. That being said, I love my Sigma macros and teles on my Pentax. It's a strange world with many choices. Keep your Fuji system and research what the Pentax FF will give you....but only buy FF Pentax glass IMHO. Get some of those F or FA 50mms....and stay away from the Limiteds that are now made in Vietnam...they aren't the same quality as their Japan versions. Don

FWIIW, I own the EX DG version of this lens and I, too, got rid of all my Pentax, Tokina, Tamron, etc., macros when I worked this magical lens. It is the finest macro lens I have ever used and a beautiful mid-range telephoto. It is a special lens, IMHO. Don

Perhaps this has been dealt with before, but I just bought a Sigma Contemporary Zoom lens and should have it in a couple of days. Question: Will I need to purchase the Sigma USB Dock to make any minor AF adjustments to this lens if required, or can I use my K3 to make adjustments and if so, how??? I've been using Sigma lenses over the years and must be a fortunate fellow because none of my lenses have required an AF adjustment. Thanks for any comments on this. Don

Actually, what I heard from other venerable forum members was that both you and he got banned at the same time, and it was only by the two of you re-inventing yourselves that you both managed to wiggle your way back onto this illustrious forum. Now, I'm not gonna tell anyone, providing you keep the tree rat posts at a minimum. Your bud, Don......and if I see that questionable character down this way, I'll let him know that he's still a fond memory to many.

Wife and I went there yesterday in misty weather. Only had the SMC F50mm, F1.4, and DAL 15-55mm kit lens. I did have my remote and a ND 10 stop filter along. I actually handheld the filter for the 50mm lens and hoped for the best with the camera sitting on a flat railing. Images were processed in Lightroom to improve clarity and saturation. 3 hours outside of Bogota, up and down a ravine in the Andes Mountains, lies the old colonial town of Villa de Leyva. In recent years, Colombian tourists flock to the scenic pueblo during peak vacation. For those from afar, it's a recommended visit. Geralyn and I went earlier this week when the famous old stone plaza and hotels were sparsely populated. What stood out for me was a peace/calm in the air; dogs, sheep and children came and went in the clean, thin mountain air, locals wandered from café to café, and the old Plaza church featured a celebration-of-Mary processional out and down a stone-cobbled street. G and I took it all in, walked the streets the next morning, bought some local yarn, visited a couple of local Museos, and sat in cafes, enjoying the strong coffee (tinto) and sugar-coated churros (donuts filled with caramel).
Would we recommend a visit to the old Spanish colonial town? Absolutely! The views alone of the Andes valleys, hills and green mountain fields are in themselves worth the trip. Here are some images of our visit. All the best, Don

Top of the line Merrell's are hard to beat. I took a pair of hiking boots to China in 2007 and still have them and in excellent condition. Stay away from the Mephisto line of European hiking boots. I bought two pair when I went to China in 2010 and they're both worn out. Their quality has gone down considerably since they started making them all over Europe and God knows where.

Well, I certainly didn't think I was trolling, being a loyal Pentax user since istD days. The title to the thread wanted ya'll to read it and make your own determinations; although, I made my
mind up on TCs a long, long time ago. They just aren't very good, and they're going the way of the dinosaur with more and more megapix bodies. Now, ya'll can shoot lamp posts as Brandx over in DPR and tell yourselves that TCs are OK and serve a purpose, but I've moved on. And a good day to all.

Colombia mines the finest emeralds in the world, about 3 hours by car from Bogota. There's a street of emerald shops in La Candelaria where deals can be had, or so my wife tells me. Here's an image with the wife in one of the several shops behind the fellow in the white fedora. No, emeralds do not come cheap, even in Bogota.
