I think you'll be really happy with the upgrade from your P&S to the DSLR. I did something similar - I have a Canon S3is and although it went to ISO80 and was f2.7 at the wide end, it was really only usable to ISO200 before the noise got terrible, so I had a lot of difficulty taking good shots when walking in rainforest. I found that a K100D, even with the kit lens at f3.5 produced far superior shots at ISO400. The larger sensor in the DSLR means that the higher ISO ranges become much more usable. Moving to better lenses made the difference even more stark. The Canon doesn't get used any more.

I've recently upgraded from the K100 to the K200 as I broke my k100 :(. I don't have any lenses that use SDM, but the $ wouldn't have justified the upgrade for me had my K100 still been working fine. It's nice to have the in camera RAW->JPEG development, and weather sealing, but I don't use either that much.
On the other hand, the FA35/2 is a great lens, I get more keepers with it than any other , and the FA50/1.4 is also excellent, especially for people and indoors - I'm still very much a learner photographer, but friends with kids love the photos of their kids with the 50.
I've just bought a DA 16-45 - if I didn't have to upgrade the camera, I'd have spent the extra and gone for a DA*16-50 like yours.
So in your situation I'd spend the money on the 35 and 50. Just my opinion. Mind you, I think I may have early symptoms of LBA.

I bought the 28-300, thinking that one lens would cover most situations. It's slow, and soft wide open and at full zoom, it improves stopped down. It's also very heavy for a walk around lens.
It's a very versatile lens, I keep it on the camera if I'm in a situation where I may need to change focal length quickly, and don't have time to change the lens (for example parades). It's especially useful where there is plenty of light to play with, so you can use it stopped down.
But mostly, I find I shoot either wide or tele, so more and more I keep my DA21 on the camera, and change to an SMC 135 or 200 when I need the reach - image quality is much better.
In retrospect, I should have saved the money I spent on this lens, and bought a less ambitious, but higher quality lens - perhaps the 70-300 sigma, or an SMC 300.
Hope that helps.

My K100 and K200 both do this, I'd assumed it was the SR (as with the K10) and haven't worried about it. Doesn't cause any problems.

Absolutely stunning shots Bud, well done. I think #1 is one of the best hummingbird shots I've seen on the forum.

K100d with broken aperture control Asking Price
$us180, $au250 Item Description
For sale is a K100d, works fine except has a broken aperture control. When you try to adjust the aperture from the camera body, there is a whirring sound, but the lever which actuates the aperture does not move.
Was purchased in August 2007. Would be ideal for someone who uses M or screwmount lenses (or is prepared to use the aperture ring on later model lenses).
Unfortunately the aperture control on the body stopped working just after the camera was out of warranty, and I have some lenses without aperture rings, and I really wanted a K200D so....... I bought one.
My misfortune could be your gain if you mainly use older lenses - the camera works fine with M, K and M42 lenses, and autofocuses fine with FA lenses (but you need to set the aperture on the lens rather than from the camera body).
This is only the second item i've sold on these forums, but I've sold on eBay a fair bit (my user ID is kofdon).
Happy to answer any questions/post pictures, and have attached some post-breakage pictures I've recently taken with my super tak 135/3.5.
Can post photos of the camera if that would be useful, happy to answer any questions. Are you the original owner of the item being sold?

No, I just used Pentax Photo Lab, increased the contrast by 1 stop, the saturation by two, and the sharpness by two, and then played with the brightness histogram to put a slight "s" curve in it until it looked more interesting. I was really just experimenting.

Hi,
Am starting to experiment with PP of RAW, rather than just using JPEG's out of the camera - I like the vivid look of these two, but would appreciate advice - have I perhaps overdone the saturation and contrast here, and made them look a bit unnatural?
thanks
Don
(Both shot with K200D and DA21)

...let down by the photographer I'm afraid, I haven't really mastered this lens. :hmm: At least it will give you an idea of the FOV on a k100D. All shot wide open in evening light, mainly handheld, except for 2 and 5 where I rested the camera on the bridge. It is a relatively big and heavy lens.
I can't comment on the Pentax, perhaps someone could post some photos.
The Sigma is for sale in the Photographer's marketplace (I assume I can say that here, but if not - sorry!)

I sent my k100d to CR Kennedy, the Australian distributor for a sensor clean. I sent it with a couple of spots of dust, it came back with a sensor even dirtier than the one above! I only use local camera stores now.

PentaxForums.com Marketplace Listing Item for Sale
Sigma 14mm F2.8 EX Aspherical (rectiliner, not fisheye) Asking Price
$A600 Item Description
For sale or trade is a Sigma 14mm F2.8EX rectiliner lens. The lens has been described as "The world's shortest focal length non-fisheye wide-angle AF lens with a fast F2.8 maximum aperture and a close focusing distance of only 7.1 inches (18cm). The lens also incorporates a built-in lens hood and a gelatin filter holder behind the rear lens element." See: FM Reviews - 14mm f2.8 EX Aspherical
I bought the lens in December 07, but rarely use it, it's been out three times, and maybe taken a dozen photos, so I'd like it to go to a good home where it will get some use. In as-new condition, with all documentation, receipts, box, soft case etc.
I'd consider swapping the lens for a long lens, or a wide angle zoom of similar value, or would negotiate a "lens plus cash" settlement.
PM me for details, would be happy to email the photos I've taken with this on my K100D.
This is my first go at selling on the forum, but I have sold on eBay before, will email you my eBay userID if you want to look at my feedback. Are you the original owner of the item being sold?

I saw a swamp wallaby across the road, and was about to take a photo of it when I heard a car coming. I quickly fired off a couple of shots as the wallaby took flight. It wasn't until I got home I looked at the left hand side of the first photo and realised what the wallaby was running away from!
