Pentax 30120 M-42 to K adapter

I should add that, on my Lumix G-3 with M-42 to Micro 4/3 adapter, my lenses do align at the top. As they do on my old Spotmatic SP.

The thing about the Spotmatic is that it has no flash hot-shoe.

On my Honeywell Spotmatic "F", that has a hot shoe, it's only one or two degrees from TDC.

There's no surprise that none of the cameras have in-body image stabilization. The K-7 does.

On the K-7, the "Pentax" mark is square-on at the top, "Philippines", at the bottom and the lens F-stop info at 11 o-clock.

With a Super Takumar 300mm F4 lens, something totally unusable in my backyard, it takes a little time to set-up a photograph. Certainly, not an action sports setup.

At least, with digital, I don't have to decide on a film ISO speed, load the film, shoot a roll and wait for processing. Oh, I also have on-board image stabilization.

Looks like an excursion down to the river. That's a good thing.

The postal guy just delivered my "genuine" Pentax 30120 M-42 to K mount adapter. Exceptional service from B&H. I couldn't be more pleased.

The thing is very precisely machined and fits like it was made for a fine camera. (Of course it was!) The price may be high, but I can see no reason to chance an aftermarket adapter. It's very easy to install and remove if the enclosed instructions are followed.

When mounted, the lens does not fully align. As pointed out by stevebrot and TomB_tx, it must have been designed that way.

I'll use my brand new K-30 for the more modern lenses and dedicate the K-7 to the "ancient" M-42 Super Takumars. I think that I am going to have a lot of fun and learn a lot more about photography.

Kind of brings back the old K-1000 days.

So, in a few days, my Takumar M-42 mount lenses will be able to leave their adopted Micro 4/3 home and return to "their roots".

It's a beautiful thing.

Did I just buy a new Pentax 30120 adapter from B&H?

I had purchased an import M-42 to K adapter from E-bay and after successfully removing it, without damage, from my recently E-bay purchased K-7 body, I was very reluctant to try it a second time. It didn't allow the lens to align properly and, while it would probably be OK, there had to be a better one on the market. Which led me to look on the B&H website. (Last week they had a K-50 kit, with 32GB memory card and Pentax flash that I just had to have. This week, it was a DA 50-200mm WR Pentax lens. I'm getting into this a little more than I had originally intended.)

Anyway, although a little more expensive than the E-bayed adapters, the item pictured had the Pentax "logo" and 30120 part number. Could it be that Ricoh has started to manufacture these? If so, It's very encouraging. It signals, to me, a commitment to keeping Pentax "in the game".

Thank you, Kerrydown. You must have spent a considerable amount of time in collecting all of those "A" lenses.

I'm still on the porch, waiting for the UPS guy with a spiffy, new K-50. I have my laptop and Wi-Fi so I am not totally out of contact with the civilized world.

The postal guy just delivered the battery and charger for the "non-functioning", E-bayed, K-7.

I think that I have the "deal of the century". I did the "legacy glass" thing and the camera seems to work with an "M" lens. Most of the manual functions seem to work. The orphaned K-7 stops down and takes pictures.

I will try out a later series auto-focusing lens and put some time into the K-7 Users Manual to see if the thing is 100% working. Right now it looks pretty good.

I have been using my "M" and "Super Takumar" lenses on some Micro 4/3 cameras. When B&H dropped their price on a Nikon D3200 kit to less than $500, I had to buy one. Funny thing is, I still pick up the Lumix G3 and more often than not, the Olympia PL1 (only 12 mega-pixel but with "shake reduction"). A 50, 100, 135 or 200 "M" prime lens works quite well but both cameras are really tiny when hooked up to a 300 f4 Super Takumar.

I found a non-functioning K7 body on E-bay for next to nothing and am waiting for delivery of the cheapest battery and charger that I could find. I think that the whole setup was less than $65. Probably won't work but I took a shot.

Anyway, B&H currently has a K-50 w/ 18-55WR lens for $419 and throws in a 32Gigabyte memory card and Pentax flash. Couldn't pass that up, so it's on it's way. (As is an M42 to K mount adapter.)

I will, no doubt, still use the "tiny ones". The "M" 50 f1.4 prime is perfect for them. Soon though, I will have something that I can really "get a grip on".

If anyone needs me, I'll be on the front porch, waiting for the UPS guy.
