In this case, Manual, because A. The lens is a bit noisy in Autofocus mode B. Patience is a virtue, and the reward can be gratifying C. Battery- I only have one. And like you said, I get the results in the end.

Common Yellowthroat, photographed in the Jamaica Bay marshes. This little fellow is an incessant jumper. Manual focus, tracked him around for 25 minutes and got a few good shots.

Thank you for the feedback guys, here's a couple more from the same shoot. The autofocus on the lens is good but uses up the battery real quick. I prefer using manual focus on this lens, like i did for these two pictures.
