K1: No aperture sensing for "legacy" lenses?

No, on a Canon i don't have to use stop-down-metering. I simply arrange the picture, select the aperture (or not) and just - click - that's all. The camera constantly meters through the lens and when i press the button, the image is fine.

As i wrote, the "premium" models from Nikon offer complete support of older lenses, even remote TTL flash metering and all other new advanced features work flawless with lenses from the beginning of Nikon itself. The only thing to do is focusing by yourself - simple as it should be.

I don't know Canon, but at least they offer full support for AV modes, stepping down the aperture inflicts corresponding time values.
Nikon offers *completely full* support of older lenses on their "premium" models (D200 and above), they only "crippled" support of older lenses to the level of Pentax on the entry level DSLRs, e. g. D5x00 and following. Even the premium D7x00 crop series offers full support for lenses aging back to the 60s of the previous century and beyond. That's no rocket science, that's customer support, as it should be - simple as that!

Yeah, that's definitely a deal breaker!
If i would be a Canon guy, i could take photographs - with manual Pentax(!!) lenses - a lot more comfortable, as with a genuine Pentax camera - that's simply ridiculous! I have a pile of - one of a kind - Pentax lenses (most manual, but also some Limiteds) and i'm doomed to use them the way like i did the last years, although in the "analog" age i was able to use the very same lenses super comfortable, with premium metering! No, this stop-down-metering is even less than a workaround - i'm out!

No, not my first, i have two K100, K200, a Fuji S5pro and Nikon D3, but i want a FF Pentax with full support of manual lenses.
You tell me, the new K1 has the same - absolute lame - support for manual lenses as the previous Pentax cameras? :?
If that's the truth, i'll sell my supply of old manual Pentax glass for good. I've really waited long enough now...

...deeply disappointed... X(

Hi there,

long time not being here, but now, as FF is here, i'm here again! ;)
My only concern is: Is there an aperture sensing for older lenses in the new K1?
The specifications are - on purpose? - very unspecific about that feature.
Is there support for older lenses or not? :? If not, i'm finally completely out of this - sorry!

I will not buy the FF, if it doesn't feature an aperture sensing lever - that's it!

What's the first lens you would mount on your new FF Pentax DSLR?

First the K 30mm f/2.8 snapping something near me and at least one wide shot outside.
If the body had an aperture coupler i would next mount the Bokina 90mm f/2.5 taking some Bokeh shots. :D
If not i would send back the body to Pentax for proper environment-friendly disposal. :p

For a very very long time, i've been absent from Pentax and was not interested in "just another (too) small sensor" camera, but now things finally start to change. In the last days i've been reading a lot around here and on the net regarding the new full frame Pentax just announced, but could not find any information about the version and features of the K-mount coming with this new body. My main concern is, will it have an aperture sensing lever or not? Because this will be my critical feature for buying or finally skipping at all.

I vote definitely YES!

I would instantly buy a full frame Pentax, but only, if it has the aperture sensor back!

Fungus inside a lens

Well, i have a K 50/1.2 that had a little infestation of fungus ~1mm diameter, right on the 2nd element ~4mm from the edge. I had this lens for an apple and an egg from the bay and got it professionally CLA'ed for ~70€. This lens is now in like new condition and the image quality is outstanding. The fungus had not left any traces on the lens surface. You may give it a try, if you think the lens is worth it - the K 50/1.2 definitely was! :D

I don't know, if this was intended, but in that link the amethyst-picture of the Tessar beats the hell out of the Pentax! Both versions!
Is it really, that the Contax Tessar is that damn good, or is it, that the both Pentaxes are that bad focussed?

I own the Tokina AT-X pro 28-70/2.6-2.8 II and i have to say, this is one of my favorite lenses! Although its a bit long on the short end on crop cameras i use it a lot. I use it in combination with the DA 12-24/4 and they both together give an excellent set for a sightseeing trip in the city.

Best Macro lens

Unfortunately i never felt the urge to use the adapter for 1:1 until now. I can only show shots taken without the adapter, but these are really stunning... :D
Maybe, i can take some dedicated new shots with 1:1 adapter, some time in the future...
The adapter looks like a normal 2x teleconverter, but it states, it is only reasonable usable with the dedicated Tokina 90/2.5 because it is only an extension to the lens formula used in it and not really usable with other lenses. Also it states, that this extender does not take 2 stops of light, but effectively only takes about 1 stop of light, since it is especially designed for this lens. If i look closely to the 1:1 extender, i see it is constructed with a lot more glass inside than a normal 2x teleconverter, so i can believe the claim, that this thing won't cost you 2 stops of light.

My vote goes clearly for the (T)Bokina 90mm f/2.5, i own this lens with accompanying 1:1 adapter and A-aperture. This lens is placed #4 @ photodo and i can only prove that.

Thanks!
The digital shots were taken with K100D and K100D Super, i have entered the camera and lens data to the pictures in the gallery. Some analog scans were taken with my Spotmatic F - mainly b&w shots and some slides.

Well, the K 30 has a five blade diaphragm so you see them in the highlights of the bokeh. The Kit has 6 blades like in shot 3 so there only remains shot 1 for the Tamron. ;)

Shot 2 is obviously Lens B (The K30) - btw. the focus is off
Shot 3 is Lens A (The Kit)
Shot 1 is probably Lens C (So has to be the Tamron)

I could post a link to a German forum to show pictures of the change, but you would not see the pictures until you register to the forum. :hmm:
So if you are comfortable with about 1-2 weeks delay until i get the screen from Hongkong i will post pictures of the change i will do to the K200D. This change will be absolutely the same for all Pentax DSLRs from istD to K20D. If you - and maybe others - are interested in that, i'll do some kind of reporting my change of the screen.

[Edit]
The tweezers used are normal tweezers, but they are flat on the tip, like the ones used to trim eye lashes. With the tip you can easily grab the nose on the screen, that is there to easily grab it. ;)

Welcome!

I'm too really new to this forum, but i also do a lot anachronistic analog stuff!
I'm cozy in both worlds, analog and digital! I love both and use both technologies!
You sound, like you only do analog film photography and that is a little way off regarding this forum, but i think, if you have an affliction to digital, your are just right here. So cheers and have fun taking photographs, coz thats the main reason!

You don't need special equipment for the change of the screen. You only have to be very careful and need a tweezers for the screen and something very pointed (like a very tiny screw driver used by watchmakers or a sturdy needle) to open the cage of the flatscreen. It is really very easy to do the change. Don't be scary. If you need an in depth description to change the screen, i'll try to post some pictures of the change, when i receive the new screen for the K200D and i will do the change of the screens.
