Wireless flash?

So i just bought myself the K-01 and I am really loving the camera, at first I was missing the front wheel but with a little bit of fiddeling in the menus that problem has been solved.

I really didn't care much for checking the wireless capabilities of this camera, I just took wireless flash for granted considering my K10D does this. Well, bit of a mistake on my hand but not a big deal. Anyhow, I have a 540 that I really like to use off camera, the thing itself is bigger than ma K-01. So I wish to fire this wireless without losing P-TTL functionality, Is this possible? I have been googling my ass off trying to find out but I am no expert in these wireless radio transmitters for flashes, so some help would be appreciated here, but if P-TTL functionality is impossible I do favour a manual solution over putting a 360 on top of my camera as a control, that would be a last resort.

Any ideas, anyone?

(I tried searching the forums but no information I found seemed to target this specific problem)

Samsung still makes their version of this lens, but it's kind of hard to find it.

Yes, it is safe and yes it will work. If it's a pentax bayonet your K20D can use it, no matter how old or new the lens is.

Get the 77mm Limited, with aperture 1,8 it would be fast enough, the lens is also much sharper than the one you have now.

RAW + JPEG with JPEG on One Star quality

IMHO, shooting JPEG only is a sin. It's like comparing mp3s to cds, and raw is not just an image but a lot more, and a four star jpeg will NEVER i repeat NEVER contain the same amount of data that the raw file has. If you shoot jpeg this data is lost forever, but if you use raw you can make jpegs of the raw file forever without losing one bit of data. Jpeg is like a polaroid, RAW is a digital negative.

To me it looks like its just cropped to show the bayonet and the rest of the lens is removed, i would guess its a 18-55 or 16-45, too small to be a zoom lens.

Better to have a card reader anyway, i have one permanently fixed in my expresscard slot on my macbook pro. USB ports get worn out after some time so plugging stuff in and out all the time really isnt such a good idea for both camera and mac, better to use a card reader, its also faster since the computer doesent have to recognize the camera all the time :D

The image quality of the DA* 300mm F4 is in a different class than the 55-300. A fixed lens will always be far better than a zoom lens. But it also requires a lot more of you as a photographer. But if you know for sure that you will be using the lens mostly at 300mm the DA* is the best choice, it is faster, weather sealed, has sdm and a tripod collar. But it weighs more, so if you are looking for a lightweight lens then the DA* might not be the right choice for you.

The da* is also a lot faster at the 300mm F4 vs 300mm F 5.8. Id go for the da* if your wallet can support it.

Personally I really don't see the point in having anything better than iso 800, if people don't wan't to invest money in good glass then their images can just be noisy, it's their fault, lenses and equipment is cheaper now then it ever has been and things are only getting cheaper, but different from the old days, marketing has taken over. Where good quality equipment in the old days would sell itself based pureley on quality and word of mouth, this isn't so anymore. There is no prestige in producing good quality products anymore, it's all gone, as long as a product delivers up to a certain point price is all people care about. Money and profit. You get what you pay for, if you are not willing to pay $1000 for a zoom lens then you are missing the big picture. If you want good quality gear, you NEED to invest MONEY. A zoom lens is a much more complex construction than a prime, to get good quality images at all focal lengths from a zoom requires a lot of engineering, testing and failing. This costs money and this will reflect in the price of the lens. And profit is and you must not think otherwise, profit IS the only motivation behind any company producing any kind of equipment. So if they can make more money by selling us 95734956349576mpix cameras with slow cheap zoom lenses then they will do so. Pentax are a little better here than canon and nikon, i mean, EOS 450D kit lens is just a piece of crap, pentax kit lens is slightly better, but not because pentax want's to, but because this is one of their few weapons against the bigger companies, quality, if they can somehow get us to believe that pentax is better bang for the buck, then the marketing will work. Same with megapixels, we dont need quadzillion megapixels, id rather have 10 mpix sharp and with low noise, instead of crappy 84 million noisy shit pixels. FF or APS-C, pentax has chosen aps-c and the lens roadmap clearly illustrate this, If pentax were to go ff they would need to develop atleast 10 new lenses or use old designs, this would need facilities for production etc. etc. = cost money, I'm pretty amazed some of you ever thought pentax were going ff in the first place, where would the benefit be? They would need to maintain both aps-c and ff frame lens roadmaps, it would be to expensive for them.

Seems like I wen't a little outside the subject there, well well. :o

Nice to see more Norwegians here, but I find it strange that you got GX10 cheaper than K10D, in Norway Samsung seems to be more expensive.

But it's basically the same camera, but wrong name :P

Velkommen ;)

Jpeg is not important, I never use JPEG. Using JPEG is just plain stupid, reducing a expensive camera to some sort of polaroid beastiality. But I think I have gotten the answers I was looking for, the ist DS is a good camera and at some points it will even rival my K10D in performance, if I use raw there should not be any image quality issues either. Ofcourse it would be nice with a larger screen, but the camera will be used for taking pictures, not looking at them, We've got expensive computers for that, and many times looking at images on my K10D i have felt disappointed, but then imported them into LR and the colours have blown me away, i suspect i will experience the same with the DS.

And the camera this DS is replacing (Canon 300D) is really just a piece of crap and not a pentax either. With all the glass I have invested in it would be plain stupid to buy more canon gear, Then we would have two systems to update.

LCD isnt important, SR is not really important either my glass is fast enough and im steady enough..

The reason I have purchased the camera is the price, the price was so low that if im not happy I can use it as a bookstand or something.

But it seems that the photographers here think this is a pretty decent camera, the gearfreaks are always trolling as they usually do :D

And for the title:

I will be giving it away, but it will be within my reach so it will be my backup if I need one, thats the catch, I won't be giving it away 100% ..

Well the title says it all, would really like to hear peoples opinions. Have bought a cheap ist DS that Im giving to my GF, tried to sell my 18-55 and 50-200 but could not get a fair price so decided I was better of giving them away as a gift.

Fair gift or waste of money?

Sadly I did not get his name, but I told him about the compatability with old optics and he really liked that, I also told him about other advantages, the ability to store images away from home in case of fire etc.

I really like that older people are adjusting to new technology, I remember my grandfather told me about a month before he died that he was getting a computer, this was 7 years ago, but he didn't live long enough for his plan to materialize :(

I was walking around at the local mall today with my girlfriend, her son and some friends, it was a big "fireman sam" day so we thought it might be fun for the kids.

Anyway, as I was taking pictures of the kids with "Sam" this old man came over to me and started complimenting my camera (K10D with grip and 16-50*) saying my equipment must have been expensive etc.

So we started chatting about cameras and he said he wanted to get a DSLR soon and had been looking into the matter for quite some time (he must have been atleast 70 years old).. So I explained some of the benefits etc.

As it turns out, this man was a pentax man, and he admitted it was the only reason why he even said hello in the first place, I just laughed and said Pentax people are usually nice people and he agreed.

A fun moment, I think i could have sold a camera if i worked in a photo store today.. Hehe

Pentax low end pricing.

I agree, the prices on the low end pentax cameras are too high, if they wan't to compete in that area they need to have prices that will attract the customers, having a K2000D thats cheaper than D40/60 and 450D wouldn't be a stupid idea, they could probably get a lot of new users that way. Probably more important for pentax to get a good following in that area of the market rather than the FF-fanatics area, Low-end DSLR sales generate more income than the high-end market, for each K20D nikon and canon has probably sold 6 or 7 40/60D and 450D's each. And then when the low-end user base is bigger and better they could go for the FF bullcrap, allthough I think thats just a waste of time.
