my post may be late but if you haven't bought one yet, why don't you check Panasonic Fz7 or Fz8. it has x12 zoom, manual focus and best of all it has leica lens.

thanks guys,
nice to know that even if we have our big toys (pentax) a little toy is always handy. i myself have an old panasonic p&s (1.3mp) their very first dp&s which cost me $800 ++ at that time. it had survived the test of times ad still working beautifully.....but it's so heavy as a rock and may pass as a brick if you paint it red....

thanks gl for the compliments. it's been awhile since i used SLR (pentax mx way back in year '79-'80). and i sure need more practice. i know i might keep this one. the problem is once i keep it i am for sure will be wanting something else like 14-45 or 21mm ltd. darn there goes LBA.......

just curious and would like to get people's opinion. to those who owned K10 or K100, what's your back-up P&S if ever you have one? i know that sometimes places you're going to dictates the kind of camera you're going to bring. if it's a friend's party i wouldn't imagine myself bringing my K100 with the 0-300 attached to it. but if the party's in a park then i will. do you always carry your dslr everywhere you go. just wondering........

thanks guys. since it's been sunny in california now (finally) i think i will hit the road and try this one out and see how i will like it. honestly i was searching the web and from some advices it seems that people that are in portrait photography used telephoto lens, too. i know i can get a better picture out of the 43 or 77 or maybe 16-45 but i want portrait picture with clear lines and not some sort of distorted or stretched. maybe in time i will be able to splurge on the limited lens. also when i see all these press people lined up taking pictures of a speaker or something - you can tell that they all have telephoto lens. my intent actually is mostly portrait and some tele pictures with macro. hope this will serve me well. will keep you gusy posted.....
appreciate it,
cruiserlan2000
ps. alvin, my co-workers went to barrio fiesta and i had to skip it as i am working @ home. darn - i will miss crispy pata and kare-kare....later....

hi all,
just got the tamron 70-300mm DI lens from B&H (paid $189 though). i was excited to open the box but when i saw the lens - it's really big compare to pentax 50-200mm. and what disappoints me was that the lens was assembled in china. i guess it's hard to find made in japan lens nowadays. i thought that tamron lens are made in japan. haven't tried this yet but i am not so sure if i am going to like it due to it's big size. any thoughts? is this a keeper? actually what i want to have is a lens that i can use for portraits and some zoom and macro capability. maybe a one in all but not really i hope.
thanks,

that's the company but not the lens. the same lens for pentax is selling for $163. i actually ordered the 70-300 Di LD from H&B last night. just wondering why it's $163 at other stores. i think i am catching the LBA now. i hope not....but i am seeing the symptons.........
haven't fully tested the K100D yet as the weather here in sunny california (they say) is not really sunny....
nice to hear from you alvin,

hi all,
anyone can vouch for the statement i received from some photo stores claiming that Bigma4More sells gray market lens the reason why their prices are lower than others? and should i be concern that i am getting a gray market lens except that the warranty is less? is Bigma4More an authorized pentax dealer? have anyone ordered lens from them? the reason i asked is because of the tamron lens 70-300 Di they have is listed @ $163 while at H&B store it is listed @ $189 (about $26 difference).
TIA,

wow.. amazing shots. now you got me too excited with that lens. i didn't know it's a jewel. i better hurry up and brush up on my studies.
thanks again,
vic
PS on the GAS, i think i have that. awhile back i bought a PANA FZ7 as my regular camera but wifey found out and asked me to RMA it since she said why do i need 2 cameras for (they don't know our addiction). so being a good hubby - i returned it with regrets though....if only i can sell my other brand new TREO 650.......hmmmmmm

hey guys how are you? thanks for the info. nice picture. i might consider it and PM you.
yep you're right, still on the fence with my K100D. and as usual since weather her in CA is so flaky i haven't had the chance to play with my new toy. but i alrady bought a lowepro slingshot 100 bad, 3- 1 GBtSD cards, 2 sets of Eneloop batteries. this is getting so expensive and i don't even have a decent lens except the 18-55 kit and my old 50mm 1.7 M lens from my Pentax MX. i actually haven't put it on my camera and haven't tested it as i am still in the learning curve so manual settings might be too overwhelming for me. i hope this LBA thing will just hit me ever so slowly. maybe 1 lens per 6 months will be ok. but who knows.
thanks a lot,

hi,
is this a good lens for my K100D? basically i am just looking for a "nice" lens for portrait with macro capability. and will this work???
Sigma Zoom Wide Angle-Telephoto 28-80mm f/3.5-5.6 II Mini Zoom Macro Aspherical Autofocus Lens for Pentax AF
More Info
and for it's price of $ 54.95, if this is a good one, then it can't be beat. by the way, why is this so cheap? is it the "you get what you pay for" syndrome?
thanks again,
cruiserlan2000
PS: i am not into LBA yet but when i see all those lenses i am feeling the urge.... i had put the tamron 70-300DI in the cart and almost hit the buy button but at the last minute i closed the web browser....the price was $159...and now it's $179i think...

i was talking to a Ritz Camera CC rep this pm and he mentioned to me that the Quantaray 70-300mm lens that they are selling is a branded Tamron 70-300mm DI. can someone confirm this to me?

seems like a lot of work just to backup digital files. unlike the old slr days wherein you just go to a photo store and have your film develop or process and you have your film negatives for keeps that will last you a lifetime.

now looking back - the old slr negatives sounds like a foolproof backup. with all these high technologies it seems like there is no way you can keep a decent backup that will last you 100 years. cd may get corrupted in time. same with the dvd. hard drive may crashed (even if you have 5 pcs with 5 backup of all your files). these are not a guarantee that you can have your backup ready when you need it. hardcopy is still the best backup IMHO (film negatives) i know that they were still able to make a digital copies of movies and pictures out of the old negative films that were filmed hundred years ago. is there a way to turn your digital pics into film negavites??? seems like going backward with the technology. but hey, you can't blame me. i still have my film negatives when i was in my younger years....

brian,
sorry to ask you one more question - is this visible without zooming the pic when you look at the preview mode or when you look at the pic at normal size or you need to zoom it to make it visible?

holy crop.....brian i think you opened a can of worms. guess what? thanks for this pic. i tried to zoom in some of the pics i took with my K100D and likewise my pic got this red dot also. i just hope someone from the forum can educate us or tell us excatly if this is common to pentax camera. now that i have this problem also i guess it's really time for me to return my pentax. anyone here tell us what is happening with our pentax? if i can find a program to crop my pic and post it.
thanks,

wow. thanks a lot. what i sigh of relief. i am at work right now and will try this when i get home. but it's great to know that it's the stupid part of me that is overpowering my camera. from now on i will just take it easy and try to digest as much as i can or try to learn it one at a time. as what all of you mentioned - i will let the camera teach me how to take good picture. i am a complete mor...n to think that i am better than my k100d.
thanks again and i hope you guys will be patient enough with me as you will probably see me post more of this user error stuffs.....
