Thematically, my choice was #6. So much can be read into this monochrome. A lonely path, coming from nowhere, leading to somewhere. There is abundant negative space but the positive stride prevails over it even out of the ironic long shadow of the lamp-post itself! The lines and curves draw to the central subject immediately.

#1 was a close second for me. Again a great composition. All the pedestrians are on the same path with different destinations. The look in their eyes is the most riveting amidst the scenery and reflections.

#15 is a great picture but somehow looked a little planned.

Other pictures need reckoning as well.

Best dynamics in color and lighting besides justifying the theme 'FlowerS'. Many are single flower entries.

Well, the gonads have lived past their utility but now the closest thing to the lens will be my other ball (right eye with an already deteriorating vision)![emoji12] I do get work related radiation exposure which I have occasionally brazened out. Surely, a little dash of Thorium will not harm as much as some people around us. [emoji1]

Thanks, I get the drift. Perhaps Takumar will have to wait for another day and that Thorium thing seems to be giving some creeps[emoji15] ...I have no experience with MF lenses so, is it very complex to adjust the aperture through the ring rather than a dial on the camera while trying to set other exposure settings? What would you say on the glass quality of XR Rikenon 50 mm F 1.7 vs Pentax A 50 mm f2?

No worries.

Thanks, after some positive responses, Rikenon is a serious contender.

Thanks, Pentax A 50mm f1.7 is not an option.

I have a k 50 with 18-55 and 50-200 and would like to expand my sphere in manual focus photography with a 50 mm prime. What would be the most reasonable option? The obvious choice would be the Takumar 50 mm F 1.4 with an adapter but it's price is exceeding Pentax 50mm SMC DA f1.8. Would appreciate any wise counsel [emoji1]

OK, just wondering if it isn't it a greater stupidity to try and appear wise on a so-called stupid people's forum [emoji12].

Good shots. Since I am a beginner with DSLR photography it would help me to know your camera settings. By the way, in the 4th shot, is the crop done around the bird on the extreme right? Just guessing, obviously you've done a good job on this. Cheers.

Thanks very much for your time and suggestions. Being a teacher, I get what you mean. I shall explore the formal class-based learning .

There's no denying that the mentioned accessories will give the best images but it can be practically difficult to carry the whole gear everywhere all the time without being a killjoy during the social outings when there's a sudden opportunity to capture something interesting. The first point surely is very essential to know but the second tip is yet another gem coming from your experience which at least I have been ignorant of and I can't thank you enough for that. Keep them coming. [emoji106]

Sorry, didn't mean to offend. Sure, I revise my words to 'clubhouse'. My reason though was that this is the only majorly active pentax forum that I came across during my research. [emoji111]

You've made it so simple and easy to understand. Just like everyone in the game, I too have tried reading a lot about the theory and technique of photography but after a while it becomes a little tough. I guess that's why one needs to go a step at a time, for slow and steady learning. I know I have a long way to go but I am not in a hurry. So after I familiarize with my 4-day old K-50 and sort out my stability and hand-eye co-ordination issues, I hope to move on to Av.
My next open question to the forum: How does one minimize the shake and tremor during the shutter release on long zooms? Being a microvascular surgeon myself, I know a thing or two about reducing involuntary movements momentarily while taking a stitch under high power magnification. Only photography seems to be the reverse paradigm of microvascular surgery. In surgery, the imaging instrument (microscope) and the object (tissue being operated) is fixed/stabilized but the action ( the operation) is achieved through a precise movement of the tools. In photography, I feel, the instrument ( camera) may not always be stabilized, the subject may not be stationary but the action (shutter release) has to be dead stable.

That would be the tip for the day. Thanks for the encouragement for the beginners like me. Would you be kind enough to give your brief take on how to graduate from 'auto' ( my present status) to fully manually controlled photography? Regards, pgaikwad

Hi friends, I am from Vellore, India. Feels good to be a part of a near cult pentax community. After a lot of research and going through this forum as a guest, I decided to go for the pentax system. I zeroed to the dual-kit K-50 that seemed appropriate for the tropical Indian conditions with the WR. Coming from fuji x10, I am an absolute beginner with regards to DSLR photography so, I hope that the veteran members will solicit their constructive criticism to my future uploads . With best wishes, pgaikwad.
