Here are some comparisons I did this evening. When using OVF I had to press various times the shutter button to get the image in focus. I used Manual mode to minimize light measurements problems. I don't know if it is better to post the original photos instead of the compared ones.

Thank you biz-engineer, othar and Na Horuk! I posted with a picture before but I deleted it since I made some mistakes.
I realized that in aperture mode using the live view instead of the OVF the camera used lower speeds and so the image was brighter. I didn't notice I was using spot metering so I think any subtle movement could end up with a different light reading.
As Na Horuk mentioned the screen was clearly brighter than the actual image. I've been using a Pentax 35mm f 2.4 lens that gives me relatively good results with my k200d so I don't think that's a problem. There are also other factors that may influence the quality of a shot technically talking but I think the main problem is focusing.
I realized that the focus is not working very well mainly when using the OVF. It is a bit of a hit and miss. Sometimes I focus far away and the focus goes just too close... I hope there is something I could do to improve it.
I'll post some pictures because I know it is really hard to speak without actually seeing any pictures.

I have recently bought a second hand K5. I found it has focus problems when using the normal focus method. Images are blurry when you see them at 100% but when I use the liveview, the images are in focus and a bit brighter.
The seller told me to check the fine focus adjustment in the camera but I am unable to get acceptable results... Maybe I am doing something wrong.
What could I do?
Why there is such a difference between using the liveview ant not using it?
Thank you in advance.

Thank you reeftool, mhoule418 and IchabodCrane.
I tried PhotoMe to see if the actual focal length matched the SR focal length and they matched. I can shoot 1/10 without SR sharper than using the SR in the 17mm to 30mm range approximately. So the problem still there for my lens. Maybe the firmware is not updated correctly.
Is it solved for you mhouse418 in that focal length range? What camera are you using with it? I tried it with a k200d and a k5 with the same results.
I contacted Sigma and they were going to charge me for the update (mailing) but when I told them that I bought the lens recently they said it was for free. There is another thing... It is a more versatile lens but I can't see a big difference in terms of image quality between this one and the Pentax 18-55 AL II, the lens I am going to replace.
I am in two minds...

I have recently bought the Sigma 17-70 Contermporary and I have found that it wouldn't take sharp pictures when the SR is on at lower shutter speeds (using a K5). I did a research and found a thread here from 01-07-15 stating the problem.
I found that sigma released a new firmware (January 2015 if I am not mistaken) to solve the issue but I haven't got the usb dock and I don't have access to one. Besides I don't really know if that is really the problem since lenses from that date are supposed to be updated...
This is the third unit I test with the same results. I wonder if there is any way to know if the firmware is updated looking at the serial numbers or something.
I contacted to sigma in Spain but they told me the only way to know it was sending them the lens or using the usb dock. I asked them for the procedure to send them the lens but I am still waiting for their response. I am thinking in returing the lens for good.
Does it really work when you update the lense?
Have any of you bought the lens this year to check it?
What could I do?
Thank you in advance

Hi,
I had exactly the same corruption issues using a 4GB SDHC TAKEMS, I tried two models, both with the same problems. I formated it in diferent ways, tried everything with the same result. They work fine with the computer and other gadgets. However I have no problems using a 2GB SD I had from my other camera. Recently I bought a 4GB SDHC Sandisk Extreme III and I have no problems, it runs really good. One time it gave my an error but I pulled it out and inserted it again and problem solved. I also feel that it's quite hard to pull the card out from the camera.
Greetings,

Hello to everyone!
I like photography and a month ago bought a Pentax K200D to learn, I wanted to get into the reflex world. After too much reading reviews, opinions, etc. I chose Pentax. I loved it, most of all, its good construction and solidity. For now I just have the kit lens and I don't know when I will purchase another. My first digital camera was a compact Canon A-610, a wonderful camera, I'm still using it a lot.
I would like to learn a lot from you and collaborate the way I can in this forum.
Greetings,
fotsan
