I use a Helios Viewfinder I picked up on ebay for around $20. It has markings for 28mm 35mm & 50mm

Thanks for posting the photos. I am not struck by any amazing quality in the photos that makes me want to rush out and buy the Q7. I think the Q7 will be a fantastic camera but realistically it will only be an incremental improvement on the original Q.

I have my K100D 7 years now and apart from the Q it is the only digital camera I have. I have a pile of manual lenses to go with it but the one I use most is the 28mm M 2.8. Being a 'wide' angle lens everything is in focus so focus is practically instant. The dynamic range is excellent and the colours are so pleasing. Using bounce flash indoors I think it produces images of such quality that they can compete at the very highest level. The image review mechanism is so slow that I did contemplate getting rid of it in the past. Glad now I didn't because I can delete unwanted images later on the computer. I agree with what said above that 6mp more than enough and help keep more storage space on the computer. So I hope to have it for another 7 years. However when out and about I prefer the Q because it is smaller and lighter and takes surprisingly good quality images.

I got a Pentax Q. It came a few days early and I had not the patience to wait and had to open the box and play with it. Looking forward to getting the Q to K adaptor so I can try out all my lenses!

I only have the Q since last Monday and I love it to bits. Despite the spec sheet it really does feel like a mini DSLR and not at all like a compact. I have had quite a few digital compacts and I pretty much hated everyone one of them including the Samsung EX1 which was probably the best of the lot. The Q on the other hand has a soul and I bonded with it straight away. I put it this way, the Q reminds me of Katie Taylor the Olympic Champion boxer. She is small and pretty but if you underestimate her she will knock your block off! The digital filters are not a gimmick but produce stunning results. Most of the time (for my taste) jpegs straight out of camera do not need post processing. I got it for less than 300 bucks and the 01 lens is a killer. I love that focal distance and the wide aperture is a joy. Heck if you use it wisely you can even get some bokeh (see below). I am coming around to the personal belief that no camera should ever be bigger than this ever again!!!! And yes, as people say it is 'fun' and it is very difficult to explain why. It's like your girlfriend is fun and you don't know why either!

I am looking where I can buy the focus-screen, shim and hinged frame that holds the focus-screen and shim in place. Basically all the bits and bobs that hold the focus screen in position. My K100D is still working great and it seems a shame to let it die for want of these parts. Any help where I can get these goodies will be much appreciated.

Greetings everyone.
I bought a Spotmatic on ebay about two years ago. It has been given me great enjoyment and beautiful pictures. I have just replaced all the seals so the camera has a 'new' feel about it. There is only one little flaw. When I use the flash at 1/60th shutter speed I get a dark edge (about one inch) down the left side of the photo. I overcome this problem by shooting flash at 1/30th shutter speed and this solves the problem. I have been visually comparing the shutter speeds of the Spotmatic with my Pentax MX and I would guess that all the shutter speeds on the Spotmatic are firing a little fast. This would account for the dark edge on my flash photos at 1/60th shutter speed. I reckon that whoever had the camera before me must have increased all the shutter speeds slightly. My question: does anyone know if there is an internal adjustment in the Spotmatic for slightly varying the shutter speeds? I am happy to leave well enough alone and continue shooting flash at 1/30 but if all it takes is a simple adjustment I will be happy to try it too. Thanks for any attempt to reply. The people who sell 3rd party adaptors are criminals. It is unknown the vast amount of expensive camera equipment that has been destroyed because of them.

I had two K1000's. I wanted to give one to my nephew who is very keen on photography. When it came to deciding which one to give him, I found I could not part with the one that had a few dings and dents around the prism. I gave him the one that was in pristine condition. I have no idea whatsoever why I did this and I don't regret my decision for one second. The battered K1000 was the one I trusted the most and somehow felt much more comfortable to use. Human beings defy logic and it is a good thing we do! :o)

It is lovely film I think, but it doesn't do white skin tones too good. Gives white skin an orange cast. But Superia 200 is great for almost everything else.

I recently got my hands on a Zenit 11 (which takes the M42 thread). Zenit cameras seem to have been made with Pentax lenses in mind. I am waiting for my first roll to be developed to see what it is really like. Anyway, I am surprised it is such a pleasure to use, even though it seems to be made from the gear-box of an old tractor! I just wonder if any of you have used this piece of equipment and what your overall impression of it is. "Precision engineering" would not be the first thought that jumps to my mind:D but it's hard not to really like it.

I think that the MZ-50 is one of the worst because of a gazillion placsic cogs and gears inside. Absolutely beautiful whilst is lasted but it did not last very long.

Hi Everybody. I use 28mm and 50mm primes with my K1000. Have you any suggestions for me as to what would be a good quality zoom in the 28-50mm (approx) range for me to use. I wont be giving up the primes. It's just that for casual photography, like family events, it could be very convenient. Thanks.

Well, thanks everybody. I am flying out at 7.00am tomorrow morning. And guess what? Both cameras are in the case (including lenses for K1000). I knew it would be hell leaving one behind. Today I bought a nifty little tripod called a 'Slik Mini Something or other.' It is very light and folds up about the size of a bicycle pump. I am staying in the outskirts of Rome so I am going to buy a second-hand bicycle when I get out there. Thanks for the advice. I am glad to avail of your experience. When I get settled over there I will post up a few images of the Italian coastline! Wish I could bring you with me! :) It's a killer leaving you all behind! :)

Yes, I only have the Spotmatic and Takumar about 3 months and I found I have a LOT more keepers from a roll using the Takumar lens. Even the quality of the pictures is hugely superior than the M lenses I am using on the K1000. There could be another reason for this but I have come to feel very confident about the Takumar 55mm lens. Maybe I might just stick to using the 55mm lens over in Italy and possibly it will help me be more creative because of the limitation. I suppose, deep down, I don't want to regret leaving the K1000 behind with its selection of lenses. I am currently packing my travel case and space is a premium. Not to mention baggage handling charges. Anyway, thanks for the helpful suggestions. I just wondered if any of you had much experience comparing Takumar lenses with 'M' or 'A' lenses and if the difference was so great.

Thanks Nesster. That's a good idea. If I picked up a 28mm screwmount lens over in Rome I would be more than happy. It's too late for me to go looking for one on evilbay but your suggestion about finding a flea-market there is a good one.

Hello all. About 3 months ago I got a Spotmatic SP II on ebay. I got a local repair guy to give it a service. He fixed the meter and did a great job overall. I normally used a K1000 but the pictures that the Spotmatic (with Takumar 55mm lens) produce are of a much higher order than the K1000. In a few days I am heading off to Italy for four months. I will be working during the day but will have free time in the evening for photography. Anyway, I don't know whether to bring my Spotmatic (with the one only Takumar lens I have) or bring the K1000 (for which I have quite a few lenses (28mm 50mm 135mm). I want to travel light so don't want to bring both cameras. Which would you advise me to bring, and why? Thanks

I was thinking of this very thing before I posted the question at the beginning of this thread. Sometimes it can be a bit fiddly and indiscreet metering through the viewfinder. When people see you twiddling dials with a camera up to your eye they know what is coming next. I was thinking one of the advantages of a hand held light meter is you have a lot of work done before you lift the camera up to your eye. I have to say that is one of the big attractions of why I want one. :o
