Macro 645 in monochrome

Had the side off of my Pentax 645 seeing if I could get it working. I have no idea what I'm doing, just looking for something obvious and pushing things around a bit. This technique worked once before but no luck this time. So I decided to set up a couple flashes and snap a macro shot and run it through NIK and do a silver treatment. The inside of this thing is shear madness.

I haven't shared here in a while, so he we go.

If you haven't tried Bergger Pancro 400 yet, it Loves the forrest!

Pentax645 45mm, Pancro 400, D-76 1+1, Epson V550
Tuned it up a bit with NIK in PS and found the "Lighten center" filter in in Color EFX pro4 useful.

Its been a while since I shared here. I've been really busy with school and family. But I finally got around to getting a battery adapter for my Yashica Electro 35, so I took it for a spin. I've got a light leak but on the other frames its on the left. Don't know where this colorcast is coming from, maybe flare. But I like it.

Electro 35, Kodak Ultramax 400, Unicolor C-41 in the kitchen lab, Epson V550.

One from last fall. Probably Ilford HP5 400. Canon A-1, 50mm. I think I was using D-76 +20% dev time. Cropped it, because I can and I wanted to. Maybe around 50%

This one is kinda hard to explain. Its a double exposure. The first exposure was taken by a stranger with an unknown camera at least ten years prior to the second exposure. The second exposure of the iron beams was made on my pinhole camera. I got the film in a package deal with other photographic equipment and did not know it was already exposed. So when I built my 4 x 5 pinhole camera I loaded the film holders with this film and got a surprise when I processed it. I processed the film and made a contact print in the darkroom. I wanted to share this with friends so I scanned it and decided to do a little post processing. Noise reduction(hilarious if you think about it), exposure, contrast and curve adjustments. Then HDR software just for fun :) then a pinhole filter from Silver Efex pro(double hilarious). Enjoy.

I initially thought it was Ilford Delta 100 since that's what box it was in, and processed it in D-76 1:1 + 20% time. I got the time from DigitalTruth dev chart, and we regularly add 20% for a little more range. It turns out the film is Kodak TXP 320, a discontinued film. The pinhole exposure was seven minutes IIFC.

I like this one better. It took me a bit to figure out why. I think its that the sky is visible beneath the bridge and the little bit of light on the right side of the bridge. A little more dynamic.

My favorite shot from a local car show last week. I meant to over develop in D-76 by 20% but forgot that I had Ilford HP5 400ISO instead of Ilford Delta 400ISO. I think I ended up developing around 40% extra time by mistake. This scan was run through a Photoshop and NIK plugins, to make it look more like the print I made on fiber paper. In the printing class we were using two developers. Two minutes in Dektol at 1:20(dektol:water) for the highlights and 30 seconds in a 1:2(dektol:water) for the shadow detail. Scanning prints seems like a waste, at least with my scanner.

Canon A-1 75-200mm, Ilford HP5 400, D-76 1:1 @ ~17minutes. Epson V550.

Some real dirty scans of a class project. The instructor picked random phrases out of a book showed us an artists dyptic series and said go. So I made a mask to cover half the lens and exposed each frame twice using the multiple exposure feature of the Canon A-1. Then rewound the film and exposed the missing segment numbers off a clock in a darkroom twice. Once in landscape and again in portrait.

I like that this is on a hill slope for some reason.

From this past spring. My first time shooting at a race. First night time shots. I had just got some Ilford 3200 in the mail that day, so off we went. Bringing the prime was a fun exercise because it forced me to frame up compositions first and wait for the action to fill the frame. I knew I wasn't going to get high detail action from far away and the lighting sucked. I like the gritty grain in this because it reminds me of all the dirt, dust, fumes and smoke that night.

Another go at infrared. This time with more confidence and no bracketing. I just kept my aperture wide open and two stops down on the shutter. Starting to do exposure logs as well, this helps a lot.

Cross post from the MF thread.

I feel I've been in a bit of a slump over the summer. Maybe the heat or the hazy light outside. Maybe its the kids driving me nuts. But I found this misplaced scan from this past winter. I can't wait for winter! I think I just like the light better. I like the clouds in the summer, but winter light is my favorite. Low angle, more red, less haze I don't know. This was my first roll of Portra soon after I got my 645. Now I remember why I was hooked.

Pentax 645, 45mm? maybe 80-160@80mm? Kodak Portra 400.

I think I see a better filter in my future. Comparing to this shot that I shared a while back in one of the film threads, I can see more contrast in yours. I like the way the undersides of the leaves look.

I was on vacation in the Southern Appalachians this past week and my 654 refused to load film after finishing a roll. I got new batteries and no improvement. So when I got home I decided to open it up. First on the non-grip side I could see a belt trying to work and some other gears and levers kind of half way working. Then I opened the grip side and noticed the DOF lever wasn't engaging anything or making its "zippy-zippy-grindy" sound. I kinda brushed a few things with my finger and "Ca-Cha!" It fired. I don't know what was wrong I'm just glad that I don't have a $100 doorstop with $1000 worth of glass to go with it. It would have been easy to replace being so cheap but not yet. The mirror was also stuck in the up position. Well see what happens after the next roll.
